we wished to stop into the Bar of the Angus on Bell Rd on a Thursday nite to watch the NFL game and take advantage of the happy hour. We were greeted by a friendly Bartender, who was happy to share the happy hour menu. The TVs (which were three). were set to softball, soccer and baseball, when asked if they would put the NFL thursday nite game on. We were advised the general manager didnt like American football. We ordered one drink to be polite and the bar tender was apologetic. But I was somewhat amazed and feeling unwelcome we drove down the round to Bigs sports bar and grill. I stopped by Black Angus Steakhouse for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Located in Glendale, this is one of their three locations in Phoenix and surrounding areas. Parking is a cinch in the large lot that circles the restaurant. Ambiance (3/5): Black Angus gives a homey, comfortable feel, though a bit outdated. While I was there, the crowd was on the older end which was fitting. Not a bad thing, but the booth I was seated at was a bit worn down. Not terribly so but to a degree. Service (2/5): My waiter did a solid job taking care of me. He was nice and pretty efficient. The issue with the service isn't on him. The issue was that a good number of items on the menu were unavailable. We're talking 10+. He apologized and mentioned they were dealing with some issues... not sure exactly what was going on but definitely a first. He also overcharged me for my beverage (which should have been priced at happy hour pricing) but fixed it quickly after I mentioned it. Drinks (3.5/5): They have a solid happy hour with discounts on both food and drinks. I went with a Long Island Iced Tea as it's a cocktail that tastes good and packs a punch. Exactly what I like. Food (3/5): I went with their campfire special which allows you to build your own three-course meal from a special group of dishes. For my appetizer, I went with the potato skins. One of my all-time favorite apps! Good portion size with six large potato skins. The cheese was melted and there was a good amount of bacon... it's just that the potatoes were slightly undercooked. They needed more crunch. For my main entree, I had the New York strip, medium rare, with my choice of two sides: potatoes au gratin and mac and cheese. The steak was cooked right but not the best quality. I've had steaks at high-end steakhouses and they're in a different league. Though, given that this is a chain restaurant, and not fine dining, perhaps my expectations were too high. Out of the sides, I liked the mac and cheese more. The potatoes au gratin were pretty greasy. From there, for my dessert, I had the chocolate cake. It's served with vanilla ice cream. I'm a sucker for a la mode! I also forgot to mention that they start you off with some complimentary bread and butter. Always a nice touch! All-in-all, Black Angus was a pretty average experience. This is a spacious restaurant that sells, you guessed it, steaks. If you have a companion, you can get their dinner for 2 special. As of this writing, they are part of the InKind app which means you can get 20% off your meal or 35% if you buy the gift cards at Costco when they go on sale. I got an 8oz filet mignon which comes with two sides; I choose their seasonal vegetable which was a broccoli and their grilled asparagus. I've tried this restaurant a few times and after the last visit I just can't. Everything is just tired and old. The booths are stained and there is sticky stuff crusted on them. Lisa the server is the best in the whole world and she still dresses professionally while others wear dirty t shirts. The only decent thing we ordered that night was the prime rib. The potato soup was gloopy, the wedge salad had brown edges and the top of the Mac and cheese was burnt. We purchased a Groupon for The Campfire Feast for two. We chose the wagon wheel for our appetizer, prime rib with a loaded baked potato and green salad for one of the entrees and grilled salmon with cheesy au gratin potatoes and a green salad for the second entree. For the dessert my husband chose a custard dessert. My in laws ordered a steak burger with onion rings, and grilled salmon with cheesy au gratin potatoes. It was lackluster. The prime rib wasn't seasoned, the grilled salmon was dry, the service was slow, the waitress was overwhelmed and the ambience is dark. Upon entering the restaurant through the front door, the carpet was tired and worn, dirty and in need of replacing. The restaurant needs renovated and updated, the menu should be refreshed. Truly a dissatisfying experience. This restaurant has gone downhill since I've eaten there and it's been 9 years or more. I don't recommend going here. After the Groupon was deducted from our tab, we paid $99.00 plus a tip. Terrible! We would have been better off fixing the meal at home for a fraction of the cost. read more

I can't remember the last time I went to a Black Angus steakhouse but I was very impressed by the service and the food. The place itself is a standard steakhouse with both prices and decor that reflect it. Upon sitting down we were served bread that they cut in a very interesting pattern. It made pulling apart the bread to share a funny game of who gets the ridiculously small or large piece. I will note that the second piece of bread we got came out very fresh and hot, but the weird pattern cut they made still existed. The baked potato soup was also a nice spin on having everything you would expect in a baked potato somehow put into a soup form. As for the main entree, the ribeye steak was cooked correctly (medium rare) and the cowboy butter was accurate, though it made me realize that either I don't like cowboy butter that much or that putting it onto ribeye doesn't really improve it. Also for the broccoli as a side, I was a little caught off guard that it was only 3 pieces. Really great service though. read more

I live in rural AZ and like to go to Arrowhead Mall 3 or 4 times a yr to shop. I always stop at Black Angus for a steak before going home. Recently, the elderly hostess sat down with me while I was eating, which surprised me, but she was pleasant enough, until politics got mentioned. I told her I was a Democrat thinking that would end the conversation, but she didn't get the hint and continued to the point of insulting my political choices. Thus, I'm rethinking my restaurant options. I'd suggest management mention that politics isn't something to discuss with patrons, and it's especially offensive to insult same. We decided to come here for dinner on New Years Day. They seemed to be short staffed since it took about 20 minutes to finally get a server to the table. We ordered drinks and appetizers while we looked at the menu. Once we did order the food came out in an acceptable amount of time. I ordered the rare prime rib and while it looked pink it was overdone and dry. I've eaten at Black Angus several times and never had this experience before. We haven't been to this location in over a decade and decided on a whim to stop in for a late lunch. When we walked in it was pretty empty and the hostess MIA. We waited for a few minutes and when she appeared she quickly apologized for the wait as she was cleaning something up. We were seated and given menus to look over while waiting for our server. Within moments we had our drink order in. We decided to order the dinner for two which included the wagon wheel as one of the appetizer options. Our first time here in years. We went for lunch 'cause we had a gift card and it did not disappoint! the food selection on the lunch menu was great and priced fairly. As always Love it!! I've been going to Black Angus since I was really little. (back when I would call it Black Animals) I've always loved the molasses bread and we always get the Wagon Wheel Sampler. From the moment we sat down, the service was slow and unorganized. It took almost 15 minutes before our waitress even came by to introduce herself, and another 10 minutes after that just to bring our drinks and bread. We ordered the Campfire Feast for Two along with two kids' meals. The setup seemed simple enough--potato skins, a New York strip, a filet, mac and cheese with broccoli, and a kids' steak with salad. But the timing was all over the place. Our soup and salad showed up before our appetizer, and then the appetizer came out right before our entrées. We asked twice for extra ranch and never got it. When our meals finally arrived, every steak was overcooked. Mine was completely brown throughout. I let our waitress know, and her only response was, "We'll make you a new one," with no apology at all. I also asked for a drink refill, and she took my glass but didn't bring it back for nearly 20 minutes. My replacement steak arrived before my drink did. When I said thank you, her only reply was a flat "mhm." She eventually brought the drink back after I had to ask again. What really surprised me was that no manager ever came by to check in or apologize, even after the issues with the steak. On a Saturday night, the restaurant was half empty--and now I understand why. We've tried giving this location multiple chances, but for the price, you can easily find better food and much better service elsewhere. This was our first trip back to Black Angus since the 90s. I moved out of the area and moved back in 2022 anyway we went last night. We waited 3 to 4 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and that's actually a long time when you're just standing there, looking at an empty hostess stand. She saw us but continue to do what she was doing, which had nothing to do with helping customers. We get seated our waitresses nice enough, but she messed up my husband's order. I ordered a steak I ordered it medium well it came back medium rare so of course I had to send it back. The fun part of the evening began when I got home and I ended up on the toilet. Then my husband got sick during the night and has been in the bathroom all day today. So no thank you and the health department needs to take a look at this location. Also, the bathroom is disgusting. The carpet is disgusting. The whole interior needs to be redone as well as the exterior. Horrible experience! read more

I ordered a ribeye medium rare and got it exactly like I wanted. this last week we went back again and I ordered a ribeye medium rare, and got basically a new york strip or possibly a sirloin medium rare. I know it was not a ribeye as it had no cap, and no eye, also no ribeye fat. it was not tender, and did not taste at all like a ribeye more like new york strip. I don't know who is selecting the steaks to be cooked but they need to be trained. I don't ever send food back to the kitchen as they would just throw it out. it is however too late. I'm done. I gave you 3 chances and you blew it. as a final note. please refurbish the decor and booths. there is massive amounts of dust in the light fixtures and the upholstery is in shambles. the restaurant smells like a kitchen drain when you walk in. the bread is always hard and appears to have been heated in a microwave, and you guys stopped serving real butter many years ago. I have been going to black angus for years now, and i have never had such a terrible experience as i did tonight. the food was cold, raw in some places and just overall not great. the drinks were okay, however i had a drink i had one sip of and tasted straight gasoline and asked the waitress kindly to swap it for me and while she did, she still charged me for the whole drink (after she had taken it back). overall it was not a great experience and we waited an hour for everything to come out on top of that. read more

Within a short period of time I was contacted by Black Angus Corporate who asked for more information and also had contacted the manager at the location we had visited. They all were attentive to the situation and genuinely wanted to make this right. We had a reservation and even though we were about 10 minutes late, we were seated right away without any issues. They were super accommodating, offering a high chair or booster seat for our daughter, and our drink orders were taken promptly. We went with the Dinner for Two special -- solid choice, everything was cooked well and tasted great. Our daughter ordered the cheeseburger sliders with French fries, but I think her favorite part of the meal might've been the fresh bread and butter -- she couldn't get enough! A special shout-out to our server Lori, who was absolutely fantastic. She checked in on us regularly, kept our drinks full, and brought such a positive, warm energy to the table. I ordered their special, the fall trio for $19.99 which was a great deal! 6 ounce steak, two sides, 4 grilled shrimp & 4 fried shrimp. I asked it cooked medium but it was definitely well done. We just celebrated my uncles 60th Birthday and my uncle decided he wanted to sit up at the bar for his Birthday. And I'm so glad we did. Ciara was our server/bartender and she was so attentive, sweet and informative. We had the absolute best time and the food and drink were perfection. We got the Campfire Feast dinner for 2. Started with the brown bread (pro tip ask for real butter,) upgraded our appetizer to the Sampler of course. How can you not when you get the fried zucchini, potatoes skins, shrimp cocktail and buffalo chicken?!?? No brainer. Then my uncle upgraded to the filet and devoured it. I decided to try this restaurant. I had the treat yourself or dinner for one which included a starter, an entree, 2 sides and a dessert. For my starter, I had the crispy hot honey Brussels sprouts. The one downside is that there really isnt any description in the menu so I had no idea the Brussel sprouts were made with bacon (which I don't eat) and blue cheese. I had to have the server return it back to the kitchen but they were nice enough to redo them minus the bacon. For my entree, I enjoyed the grilled shrimp with the garden salad (the house vinaigrette was soooo good) and au gratin potatoes. Note, if you order the grilled shrimp, it does come with some rice so don't order rice as a side if you want that. The server was kind enough to tell me in advance. My family and I went to Black Angus to do a day of celebration for my mother who recently passed. Our party was set up in an area kept away from others and we had Lisa M. as our waitress. Lisa was empathetic, generous and a fantastic person all around. Nothing was missed and she was always there when you needed her.
