Michael, the owner, greeted us and took care of us! We started with the Jumbo Crab Fingers which were really good - I'm honestly not huge on seafood, so I enjoyed these a lot more than I thought I would. Ironically, I'm not big on oysters either, so I ordered the Jumbo Golden Fried Shrimp which hit the spot real good. Large shrimp, well fried, flavored, and the tartar sauce was addicting. The fries that came with it were perfectly seasoned, carrying a bit more of a cajun flavor rather than just regularly salted. My parents definitely enjoy oysters, so they ordered the Charbroiled Oysters and really enjoyed it, as well as the Uni Oyster with Quail Egg. They also got the Cowboy Lobster Shrimp Roll that was gone before I even took a second look their way. We finished the meal with a yummy, dense basque cheesecake! Every customer that came in during our time there was personally greeted by Michael, and it seemed like they were all repeat customers. It was really cool to see that kind of connection, and it really showed how much Michael cares about his customers, and how much we like his food! Indoor seating is a bit limited - all bar stool seating. I rarely comment on the music that a restaurant plays, but I quite liked it! Made me feel like I was on the bay enjoying some fresh seafood at sunset. Heard they'll be opening up their newest location at POST soon!

Most of my adult life has been spent working in the medical field, more specifically in the Texas…read moreMedical Center. Because of this, I was introduced to Filipino food many years ago. IYKYK! I've had homemade as well as from the Filipino restaurants around town. I've had Gerry's Grill catered at functions but I finally got the chance to check out their location in Chinatown. It is located right off the Beltway, tucked away in the back of a shopping strip. It can be easy to miss not only because it doesn't face the highway, but you gotta be aggressive getting into the parking lot if you're exiting from the highway. There is an entry point in the back which is what I would do next time I come here. Customer service was amazing. I've become accustomed to friendly, Filipino hospitality and it is no different here. The staff here make sure you leave happy. For my dining in experience, I came for my bestie's baby's baptism lunch. The staff did a great job catering to our party as well as guests dining in off to the side. Though we were in the main dining area, we still felt like we were in our own party. We had a buffet style set up in a glass enclosed room overlooking the main dining room. This was great as it gave me a chance to really check out stuff off their menu other then the usual pancit and lumpia that is always at every potluck at work. There was pancit, garlic rice, lumpia, lechon, adobo chicken, calamari, beef kaldereta, fried chicken, different veggies, and other dishes I didn't get the name of. The difference of eating it in house and not catered was night and day difference. It was delicious catered, but even better eating it hot and fresh. For dessert, we had banana lumpia. Delicious. Overall, Gerry's Grill in person was a big hit. Not only did we have great food, but you almost always will have someone on a mike singing some karaoke as well. I will definitely be back when the Filipino food craving hits.

The place is clean, and the staff is super friendly, though I'm pretty sure our server didn't realize I'm Filipino because she kept asking if we liked the dishes like we'd never had them before. It cracked me up lol! Most of our cravings were definitely satisfied. I was disappointed they don't serve sago with the gulaman anymore, and the crab fried rice didn't seem to have actual crab in it. I could smell it, but I couldn't see it. The pork BBQ sticks were huge and flavorful, while the inihaw na pusit was on the smaller side, but dipping it in their vinegar sauce made it extra good. My husband tried pork sisig for the first time, and the server explained it's best eaten while drinking, aka as a "pulutan" which again confirmed she didn't realize we're Filipino. The halo-halo was perfect for cooling off in this Texas heat, though I remember the serving being bigger when they first opened. Overall, a friendly spot with solid Filipino comfort food with a few misses, but still a great place when the cravings hit.

They managed to keep the same relaxed neighborhood vibe people love while giving it a much more modern, polished, and upscale feel. The updated design, lighting, TVs and overall atmosphere look incredible and make the space feel fresh without losing its personality. They still have the spinning drink wheel! The outdoor seating especially feels elevated now and makes for the perfect Houston brunch spot or night out. One of the best parts about NextDoor is that it's connected to Hungry's, which means you get full access to their menu while enjoying the lounge atmosphere. Being able to order everything from cocktails and appetizers to full meals while at a bar is a game changer. The food is consistently good, the drinks are strong (especially the frozen options) well-made, and everything comes out quickly. What keeps me coming back year after year is the consistency. The staff has always been welcoming and attentive, the crowd is chill, and it never feels overly pretentious or chaotic. It's one of those rare spots that works for everything, whether it's happy hour after work, date night, catching up with friends over drinks on the patio or a solo adventure. Love seeing a longtime Houston favorite continue to evolve while still delivering the same great experience that's kept me coming back for years. Definitely one of my go-to spots on Memorial Drive. My only suggestion is to tell the younger staff members to be conscious of their conversations while guest are dining nearby. I love people watching but I heard a lot of things. It appears Hungry's uses the bar area like a break/training room or to do other tasks like rolling utensils in napkins.

I called back again to make sure there wasn't a minimum or anything, and they confirmed my reservation. When I showed up on game day, I walked into the full bar that clearly had no tables and went up to a man with a Decoy shirt on who said they don't do reservations. I told him I had just spoken to someone yesterday, and he "you have wrong information, there's no way we can do reservations with this many people - you probably called the corporate office (it's the number listed on their website so that made no sense)" and was very dismissive of me and not apologetic whatsoever. It's totally understandable that reservations wouldn't be possible on a World Cup day. Seems like the staff are not all on the same page, or I was misled to just get my group into the bar (which has happened at other bars during the tournament so it's not unheard of). Had to take my three nieces elsewhere at the last minute and don't imagine I'll be returning after that experience.
