From the outside this place looks like a dive, which it is probably a local dive, but we were in town for the Metallica concert and found this place and to our surprise It was super clean with the cleanest bathrooms and the service is absolutely welcoming and amazing. Heck with it I'm giving them 5 stars. No matter I been gone from Houston for a week or a year, the bartenders always say hey Summer you want a yellow rose. They treat me like a diamond here. I've sat around with the owner, the security guys, the manager and chopped it up I don't know how many times. Bartenders are great at what they do. Used to be free buffet food but Covid. They still give these spicy As* crackers that go good with my Lone pint yellow rose. Bomb ass jukebox but good luck trying to get your song played. The patrons play a good amount of country and I mean alot. Clean ladies room with a small jukebox that plays the large jukebox music in the restroom. More often than not I come in solo but end up sitting with some friendly patrons. The food truck is awesome. Just try it! As Toby Keith says( maybe its him) I love this bar. read more

If you have a friend visiting from out-of-town and want to show them a taste of Texas, Red River Ice House is an authentic experience. Ice houses started out back in the day as your pretty much bares bones bar. There are quite a few ice houses spread throughout the city and I've now been to Red River about five times. I play tennis in the area so it's become a post-tennis happy hour and dinner spot. Located right off of Main street, Red River is super close to the highway (which takes away a bit from the experience as you hear the noise of cars zooming by). Red River is an open air concept with the "indoor" portion consisting of a long bar, some table top stool seating, pool, and darts. There are a good number of TVs too (Though they typically don't play what's live so you may have to ask them to switch the channel.). The outdoor patio isn't huge but you have some tables and seating out along with a few TVs. Plus a food truck! The food truck has po-boys, wings, burgers, nachos, and more. Plus, you can order a pizza. Standard pub fare. It's not great food but does the job if you get hungry while downing some brews. You order at the bar and the bartender will bring the food out to you. By the way, the female bartender is great! She's super friendly and a great conversationalist so it's been nice to get to know her a bit. Happy hour goes until 6 with discounts on draft beer and well drinks. An older crowd comes here (40s and up) so we're usually the youngest people here. This is such a fun hole in the wall type bar that has a wide selection of beers and liquors to choose from. The atmosphere is very laid-back and casual with country music and patrons who are always wanting to talk about sports. there's plenty of parking and indoor and outdoor seating. The service is great and I've never had to wait for anything at this place. Their prices are extremely fair and their beer very cold. If I could put no stars I would. I came here with a pretty diverse group of friends (black, Hispanic, Asian, and white) after work to celebrate a birthday and a co-worker retiring. One of my friends, a Hispanic man, was on his way to his car with two beers that he had paid in his hands, when of the employees- white male, mid height, with a white haired beard- ran behind my friend. This employee then startled my friend and tried to slap the beers out of my friends hand. The employee said "hey motherf*cker, you can't take beers outside", "you're not supposed to take beers out outside motherf*cker". The employee then started bumping his chest against my friend like he wanted to fight my friend and started yelling these obscenities in my friend's face. My friend tried to calm the employee down but putting the beers down on the ground. The employee then began to start yelling "help" while continuing to bump into my friends chest while my friend's hands were up with palms open to show that he was not trying to pick a fight with the employee. My friend kept his hands up as he made his way to his car and the employee kept yelling in his face all the way to his car door and until my friend got into his car. I have never experienced anything like this at any bar. Although there is no proof to say that this was racist/discriminatory behavior, I will at least say that this employee clearly had an attitude problem based off of some of the other reviews that I have seen. Immediately after, my friends left. My friend's wife called the manager and described everything that happened and the manager said that he would call her back and go investigate the matter. He later called her back and said that the "witnesses" (there was no one else outside except for our group) that were still at this establishment said that it was a peaceful transition and there was no yelling. That the beers were put down peacefully and there was no altercation. The manager then added that "You all are not welcome here anymore." There is a guarantee that neither me nor my friends would recommend this place to anyone that ever asks me/mentions that they are even thinking about going to this place. I normally do not write reviews, but this incident was something that I would hate for someone to experience this. This could have been way worse had my friend not decided to stay calm. Anyone that is suddenly being harassed like this could have easily reacted violently. Anyway, if you're thinking of going to this place- think again babes. Just go somewhere else. Great experience! Small little hangout with country music, a LOT of tvs playing football and they have about 6 beers on tap- craft, too! The bartender was super friendly when we walked in- I felt like we knew him! I can see why this place gets packed. Nothing flashy, but everything you need. The bartender informed us for the Texans game they would have free munchies that we were more than welcome to have. Huge fan of "dive" bars and finally got to try this place with a co-worker. First, surface lot parking. Yay! As others have mentioned it's quite clean for a dive bar -- especially the men's restroom (a big plus). The bar itself makes solid use of the awkward space. It's spacious and features plenty of room to spread out, watch the big TVs or a shoot a game of pool. Patio is decent, too, albeit with a not-so-great view of 90/Main that obscures a view of the city/Med Center. Though, this may offer an escape, a calm reprieve from Houston's hustle. What I love about this little joint is that, unlike some other "dive" bars in Houston, they can satisfy your craft beer itch. Every time I've been in they've had Lone Pint's Yellow Rose on tap. In addition, they usually have another local beer (Karbach, St. Arnold, et al.) available. If I recall, craft will run you $5-$6 and a Lone Star will be $2.75 or so. All in all, pretty reasonable and on par with Houston. Not sure if any Happy Hour pricing. (Maybe I was the beneficiary and didn't realize?) Two (smallish) complaints during my 3 visits... (1) Kelly's great, but both he and the other regular bartender can get pretty caught up with patrons (presumably regulars?) and leave you standing there awhile to order your next brew. Totally get it. After all, they *are* regulars, but navigating both is what separates 4 stars, from 5. (2) The music is too loud. I can feel myself turning into an old curmudgeon already, but the appeal of Red River is an escape from the hustle and their chill, dive bar like atmosphere. If the music is so loud I can barely talk to my co-workers it defeats the point. For this reason, I'll often opt for Ginger Man despite higher prices and having to fight Rice Village traffic/parking. All-in-all a solid experience... will definitely continue to return and would love to catch a game day experience here at some point. read more

I'm in Houston for the weekend for business and being a bar manager in another town this place has really blown me away. First walked in happily greeted by the owner, found out his name was kelly later on, asked me what I wanted and I received it right away. The beer was extremely cold and the shot I ordered was made properly. He conversed with myself and many other bar guests as they were his best friend, but in a very genuine manner. Touchtunes music so you can play your own music with house music playing in between. The bathrooms were extremely clean. This is the perfect bar for a beer after a long day with great conversation. I was sitting with friends, BY OURSELVES BECAUSE THE BAR WAS PRETTY MUCH EMPTY, and got loud celebrated an Aggie touchdown and the owner took issue with that. This is a self proclaimed sports bar and someone getting loud when their team scores is an issue. Do not go if you're a sports fan that has fun. They want this place to be docile and lame. Last night we had our first Poultry Auction Committee meeting and our after party was held here. Before I even got there I was really happy with the location being right near NRG. How convenient! There is ample parking. It was a tight squeeze for our rodeo committee, but the owner was out in the parking lot making it work and directing traffic so I heard no complaints. There are 6 local and/or craft beers on tap as well as a plethora of your standard liquor choices and also bottled domestics. We tend to fill the tables with bottled domestics at our after parties to keep the bartender free and our costs down, and they were able to accommodate us just fine. There was only 1 bartender last night, he was for sure understaffed and not prepared for our huge crowd (this is common for our first time to come to a bar, they never believe how many will come and how much we will drink) but he did a great job and everyone was happy. I really enjoyed the jukebox, as it is a TouchTunes, which I have the app for. I was able to choose rodeo committee friendly tunes so that all young and old members were happy, though I feel the volume of the jukebox could have been turned up quite a bit. The atmosphere is great. Texas themed, great patio area with fire going, nice and casual. The restrooms were nice and clean too! I hope this can be our "new Blanco's" as we sure do miss that being our go-to after party spot. read more

We had some of the pizzas which while I'm happy that they had some food, were pretty mediocre. So if you are just going for the ice hour part... it's a 4. Mr. Kelly is the owner of this little local bar and he is so friendly and nice!! We came in a group of like 6 or 8 and he took care of us so well. The bar is brand new but you can already tell they're relying on word of mouth and hospitality in order to get this place running. The bathrooms are SUPER CLEAN and Mr. Kelly is proud of it! My group ordered quite a few rounds of drinks, conversed a lot with the great people that come here, and even got a yummy complimentary pizza, thanks Mr. Kelly! What I can't dig is the prices. 17$ for a bucket (6) of bud light beer and 10$ for 3 street tacos. We spent about $80+ and never even caught a buzz. The cleanest and nicest neighborhood bar in the city. I have been here several times and Red River never disappoints. The drinks are great and it's a no fuss kinda place. Great to relax with friends, just grab a drink on the way home from work, or any other occasion you can think of. He also will rent out for parties. Remember to ask to try Kelly's CRACKers. They are something you never knew you wanted but after you try them you can't live without. He also made homemade jerky that I could make a meal out of. His pizza is epic and perfect. Girls- you know you will go almost anywhere for a drink but when you go to the bathroom you want to feel like you just walked into something chic. Well they don't disappoint. It's a clean rustic chic. Men- where are you going to put you beer when you pee? Don't worry Mr. Kelly thought of everything; by the urinal and by the sink.
