Adorable and cozy little bar that I happened upon. They had just opened and I was escaping the rain. The space is a house turned bar and it really feels welcoming and warm like a home. There is a game room and plenty of comfy spaces to lounge and settle in. Best of all, they have a private parking lot and clean bathrooms! Nice selection of local beers in the fridge. The patio is dog friendly as well as ramped making it wheelchair accessible. Highly recommend! read more

This area is full of fancy upscale bars and then there's lizards. It's so great to have this place here. Easy going neighborhood bar vibe. It can get really crowded and I like going on the nights where it's slow. I have a soft goal of beating the high score on the basketball arcade game. I try every time I'm there but can't seem to get it done. The bar tenders hold the highest scores. There's also a guy that calls himself CaptainTamale in social media who works there and sells tamales. I bought some chicken tamales and everyone of my friends who tried them thought they were fantastic. read more

While I don't completely love or even really like this bar, I can see why some people just have a warm place in their heart for LZ's Pub. It attracts mainly two types of crowds: the really, really young (21-23) and definitely the older RO crowd that consider this their local dive. And rightfully so. Bartenders can be hit or miss. The earlier shift was a young lady who took the whole "surly barkeep" role very seriously. Ra-hooood. Later in the eve when we returned post-Christmas lights tour, the late shift had a revived and outgoing attitude. We ended up sticking around longer than expected. This house-like bar also offers carnie hoops, digital jukebox, sports on the TV, cheap drinks. read more

Super cute with the best vibe ever!!!! It is a come as you are friendly hole in the wall. The drinks are as great as the people here! Erin is awesome and the most welcoming bar tender that an establishment could ask for! Though I don't live close I will definitely come back any time I'm in the area!!! Well Bernie's Burger Bus and Lizard's Pub have this relationship. The bus is parked next door and they have an understanding so people either first come to the pub start drinking and then get hungry or come by the bus for some food, sit down, then end up grabbing a drink and enjoying the patio. Am I really the only person who hates this place? Friends have dragged me to Lizard's about half a dozen times over the last few years, and I still can't seem to figure out why people love this dark, dirty, dank and disgusting time trap. The only positives I can think of are that there is a pretty good sized parking lot (free) next to the bar and plenty of street parking available. Also, the drinks are cheap. It is rumored that Bernie's Burger Bus parks outside fairly often, though I've never seen any evidence of it. Cons: post-fratties still living on daddy's dime, and an abundance of woo girls. TRUE STORY: the last time I was here, there was a college-aged dude straight up passed out on a couch in the back beneath one of the many ceiling fans. I briefly wondered whether I'd stumbled into the SAE house. In short, Lizard's is the kind of place I would have frequented during high school, if only they served underage (they don't). Now a few years out of college and a few bucks richer, I'd gladly pay more for a nicer atmopshere or opt to make my own drinks in my own house and save myself from the douchebaggery that is almost guaranteed to ensue at this shit hole. read more

So this is an, um . . . interesting place. My friends dragged me here recently because they HAD TO try out Burger Bus siituated in the parking lot. They insisted I accompany them because they didn't want to feel obtuse, sitting at Lizard's and not consuming alcohol, while chomping down on their burgers. Naturally they elected me to tackle the alcohol requirement (I'm sure you can enjoy your burger in the patio without purchasing anything from Lizard's, we're just cautious/weirdos). On this particular day, well past regular office hours, this very tiny neighborhood bar was populated with mostly men, maybe three or so women. I suppose it being that college basketball-ful time of year ago, the sport-loving/inclined of our species tends to congregate at situses with sizable televisions and other sports-loving/inclined individuals to cheer, guffaw, and boo along with. This wasn't the most diverse crowd, in fact everyone seemed to know one another - so us additional three gals felt a bit out of place smack dab on the patio by the entrance. I very much felt like an interloper, especially after several more people showed up to watch the game and were forced to stand in order to hang with their comrades. I could feel their eyes boring holes into me, coveting our seats and tables, I tell ya! But no one overtly made us feel unwanted or anything (clearly my one drink was not enough to chill me out!). There was much friendly jesting between the bartenders and the patrons. A little bit of borderline sexual harassment from some of the male clientele towards the female bartender, but she took it all in stride. The bar itself was modestly stocked with your basics, but the prices were pretty all right. One the bartenders was very nice to bring out a chair for me when he noticed our table lacked the requisite amount of chairs for our small little table. Total brownie points for that. So I dunno, probably wouldn't set out to come here again, but it's good to know it exists. And according to my friends, the Burger Bus burgers and fries are insanely delicious. read more

Lizard's Pub...oh my! A fun, old-school neighborhood pub. Great front porch and friendly staff. It's a great, and probably the only, option in River Oaks to wear a t-shirt and flip flops to a bar! The only downside is the influx of "college" kids during the summer and Christmas break. read more

Lizard's is flippin' sweet. I love the style of the place. It's like going to hang out in your "cool" friend's game room, and he's got a wet bar (but you have to pay for the drinks). This place could also be compared to a hunting lodge you might rent for the holidays -- complete with stuffed animal heads, barely visible/flickering television, and hunting trecks (via Big Buck Hunter video game). There's usually a good crowd here (but never overcrowded), and if you want a quieter scene sneak into the back or side room and hang out on the sofas. Bring a deck of cards and play poker at the table in the back room. It's actually a perfect place for a poker game (assuming they allow it, I"ve never actually done it) or some dominoes. Now, I normally don't like the establishments where d-bags hang out, but Lizard's successfully pulls off the cross-over between the 1% of the d-bag population that is actually tolerable and the rest of the pub-going community. I went here a few weeks ago (or maybe it was over a month ago?) with a large group of friends because one of our friends finally came from louisiana for a weekend visit! It's a nice small neighborhood pub with large patio to hang out at. Pros: -parking!!! One of my pet peeves of going out is that there is always absolutely no parking! This pub has a small side lot, but there's always a spot for your car, and if not, there's decent street parking right in front of the pub -not crowded/fast service - it's not the let-me-squish-my-way-up-to-the-bar type of place. Come to the bar, and voila, there's no wait, the bartender can serve you immediately; no need to elbow your way up -relatively large with a pool table that you can pay to play to keep the boys entertained -nice patio. lots of bugs, but what do you expect, can't avoid them wherever you go. the patio is at the front of the bar and you don't seem to have to fight for a seat. -casual location - you can get in dressed casually, so don't worry, you won't be denied at the door for not being pretty enough or not having a large group of girls with you. The thing that I didn't like were the drinks. Not that the price was really that expensive - but it was just plain really really weak!!! Order a jack and coke and it just tastes like coke. Maybe it's because they put so much ice that it's overflowing the glass. And, it was not just myself and the fiance with the weak drinks - all of our friends felt their drinks were pretty weak as well. On top of that, they serve the drinks in these weird goblets, not a normal cup. Not sure if it's really a manly sign when your'e sitting there, sipping on your coke from a small goblet! Here's a tip - stick to the beer, or you're wasting your money. read more

The bartenders are friendly; the drinks cheap, a parking lot and plenty of street parking, a nice outdoor patio, and dogs are welcome. Not a bad place to go with friends and watch a game. Lizard's is a fratastic dive bar filled with a questionably douchey crowd, however my favorite food truck, Bernie's Burger Bus has been parking here for some time now. I was craving a burger so I decided to check it out after years of avoiding going here. To my surprise I actually enjoyed myself. I arrived right after work, around 5, and was told Bernie's would be serving shortly, so I went into the bar and ordered a beer. The bartender was a nice guy, talkative and welcoming. Around 7 there was a shift change, and I was excited to see that the bartender arriving was the fabulous Melody who used to work at The Wet Spot (aka Junction). Melody is an awesome bartender and a great gal, so that was a pleasant surprise! I'm not going to become a regular here, but I guess I won't flat out refuse to go here anymore. read more

The Dallas star as the pic for a Houston bar is a bad thing already, but when we went, if you weren't wearing a North Face jacket, you were the only one. Oh, these are the same guys but older and they have magically found some way to all gather together at Lizard's Pub. All joking aside, this has to be the most fratastic bar I have been to in Houston. Strangely, I do like this place. It is slightly off the beaten path (ie slightly down the street in a neighborhood away from Westheimer). It is a converted house type of dive - also cool. They have one of those digital jukeboxes, coin operated pool table and a fair amount of TV's - all pluses. The beer selection is also slightly above average. This also happens to be a food truck stopping point. In particular - Phamily Bites (Vietnamese fare) makes it here of a weekly basis - this is also a very good thing. All in all, if you can get past the frat feel, this is a solid little place to grab an after work beverage. read more

Lizzard's is definitley a dive bar. It is always filled iwth a wide array of characters. they have cheap drinks, but the problem is the service. They are slow and always cater to their regulars before you. I understand being good to your regulars, but don't blatanly ignore other paying customers because they might become regulars if you treat them well. (I was a bartender for almost 4 years). They do a good pour usually. They have a decent beer selection and a decent aray of liquor. The place does have a particular smell. read more

I think of this pub as the place for former frat boys. Cheap, fun toys to play with, and in a nice area of town. It has that dive bar feel without actually being a dive bar. Drinks are always reasonably priced and the place stays relatively busy on the weekends. I like the location in Upper Kirby - fairly central to everything. A fun place to stop at as you head home. The only thing I don' t love is the outdoor space - I wish there were more of it. There was a food truck the last time I was there which was pretty fun :) read more

We tried this pub because we wanted a burger from Bernie's burger bus which was parked outside. It was busy on a Friday evening but the beer wasn't cold. The bartender did ice it down after I asked if he had a different one that might be colder. They were friendly enough here but they don't have a huge beer selection. read more

Lizard's Pub is a great dive bar. They are dog and human friendly. Nice outdoor patio with a small area for the dogs to play. Good jukebox and couches in the back. Staff is friendly and they often have free food and popcorn. Good place to watch a game or drink some shots. Inexpensive prices as well. read more

Just to start I love this bar, I having been coming here off and on for years....like 20 years haha. Now for the review. The new staff sucks! Not only are they not pleasant at all but they pad tabs (add drinks to you tab that you did not order) and refuse to fix it when you notice they are stealing from you. Everytime I go to Lizards I feel like I'm going over to my friends house for some drinks in his living room--its relaxed, its fun, I can sit on a couch or play some darts. Im definitely a fan of this bar. The drinks are really inexpensive, I think mixed drinks were like $4 and beers were less. Definitely beats paying $10 a drink in midtown or on washington. There is no affliction in here and actually I've never seen any gold or silver foil designed shirts in this place, so if you'd rather avoid that than head over here. Dress is a lot of polo shirts, north face, flip flops. You can definitely wear a t-shirt here though, which is a plus. If you're in River Oaks area and want a great low key place to party and have a good time, head to Lizards. read more

I've been coming to Lizzards for about two years now, and coming from a smaller town with a population of 30,000 people that has approximately 3 bars, I appreciate a business that keeps a regular clientele and has for 3 decades. Not only is this business a local attraction, but it's a family. You can walk in for the first time and feel completely welcome. No one is ostracized. The bartenders: Ashley, Luke and Whitney are the BEST in River Oaks. Ashley greets everyone by name and remembers everyone's "usual." Luke has been a bartender here since almost the beginning and runs this business like a boss! Whitney is the sweetest human being I've ever met and makes the best hot dogs and frito pies on Sundays during football season. All in all, I've met some of my best friends here, and will never forget the hospitality I've experienced at Lizzards. read more

Excellent dive bar in the Kirby area. Not exactly the spot for youthful early 20's but certainly the place for the working joe.

I've been coming here for a few years on and off now and it's still my very favourite dive bar in all of HTX. I love its' rustic charm, friendly regulars and even friendlier bartenders. Price wise, you'd be struggling to do better in this area - the patio is awesome too. Catch a Texans game here and have a BLAST! I challenge you not to make new friends here. :) read more

It's a dump, which I can handle, but the drinks were overpriced for the pour, and the people in there came across as really snobby and pretentious. A great hangout dive bar. Couches and comfy chairs throughout and a nice patio out front. Lizards was surprisingly bigger than it looked too. They have a pool table, a few electronic dart boards and big buck hunter. The bartenders were good and didn't mind mixing up some new drinks they hadn't heard of. This is my first review to ever write on any bar in Houston, but what better time to start then on this one. This is a small bar, even though it wasn't crowded you could barely move around, I've been to plenty bars in Houston that are crowded but then you throw in terrible service by the bartenders who make you feel unwelcome here, a dingy bar, and an all polo/sperry fraternity college scene and you get my rating. Unless you are walking, there are way to many other bars nearby to visit than have to settle for this one. read more
