The best local bar in the heights! They are known for their homemade fruit infused liquors. They change the flavors every quarter. So pop in often to try something new. Some of the items on this quarter menu was peach infused whiskey and mango Pineapple tequila. read more

We wanted to like this place since it's close to home. It was raining when we went, and we got hit with a deluge when opening the front door and there was more than one leak inside, compete with buckets and chairs moved aside. Uck. Makes you wonder what else is falling by the wayside with cleanliness and maintenance. We didn't have any of their special "pie shot" drinks, and the bartender/owner wasn't particularly friendly. Tupac and I love it here! Dogs everywhere running freely around with a huge backyard space. Even if you don't have one, you have plenty to choose from to play with! If you are wanting to socialize your dog and be able to have a drink and watch the game, I highly recommend you bring your fur baby and friends here! My favorite neighborhood bar. We love coming to hangout/play pool with a chill ambiance. Drinks are very decent for the prices they charge! Really only need 2/3 to do the job. Great selection of beer and whiskey! We've been there twice, and the service was good even on NYE when there was only one kind of overwhelmed bartender. Friendly and helpful staff all the time. Infused liquors for great, fun cocktails. The pool table isn't quite level, but as long as you know this bar is a bit of a dive, it's great for what it is. Was looking for a dog friendly bar that also offered craft cocktails and came across Underdogs Pub. Turns out they're famous for not only their craft liquor selection but for their liquor infusions. For our first shot we decided on a Strawberry Habanero infusion made with Blue Nectar tequila. Normally it's made in a margarita but we decided on the shot route instead and we were happy we did! I really enjoyed Underdogs for a few drinks with my friends in Houston. This bar is indoor/outdoor and actually has dogs running all over the damn place.. it's a pretty fun environment. No kitchen built into the place, but there was a food vendor cooking steaks on the night we were there and a pizza place just a short ~1/2 mile walk down the street (the pizza was great, too). Beer selection was enormous.. I tried to stick to local stuff and enjoyed everything I had. There was also a great selection of specialized spirits.. house-infused with fun flavors and deliciousness. I'd highly recommend this place to just about anyone! read more

Dogs OFF LEASH. Enough said. This is the only bar in Houston that I know of that let's pups off leash and roam wherever they please. The bartender/owner Dustin is super friendly and recommended the amazing mango lemonade. And let me tell you. This drink is so sneaky. It's not too sweet and doesn't taste like pure alcohol, but it will mess you UP. They have a huge beer and infused liquor selection as well. They cater to any alcoholic! Jk. Came here because I heard they had one of my favorite TX IPAs on tap: Real Ale's Axis IPA. Well-organized bar, well-priced ($5 drafts), and chilled out vibe. They were playing some some solid 90s at an acceptable volume while here (Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, et. al). Chill and accommodating bartender. 7 LCD TVs streaming ESPN. Some might argue it started a while back on Washington. I guess it's true, all things are cyclical. If Midtown can make a strong comeback there is no reason Washington can't do the same. WTF happened to Richmond Ave? I hope Underdog's can lay some good groundwork. It will be tough bringing back some of those people that first came on to the scene on Washington, but I'm confident if you stick to something your passionate about the locals will see it and come out and support your commitment. I say that because Underdog's has tapped.. ( did you see what I did there) tapped one of my passions and many Houstonian's passions for the last couple of years, Craft Beer. You can see that with the opening of Hay Merchant, Mongoose vs. Cobra, Cottonwood, Witchcraft Tavern, and the list could go on. Not to mention the handful of Local Craft Beer Breweries that have popped up. Underdog's used to be The Lot on Washington. I liked The Lot when it first opened up, but like everything else on Washington it became a big hassle. Not much has changed on the inside except for the quality of the beer selection. The bottle selection is exceptional and they even have a few bombers for sale. All you beer dorks will know what I'm talking about. Still a great patio. A long bar sits to the right as you walk into Underdog's. Plenty of tables for you and your pals. It looks like they still serve liquor, which is good, something for everyone. I don't like to consider myself a beer snob, because that means I only drink the good stuff. That is false. If someone hands a free Bud Light I will not turn it down. I do draw the line with Heineken. That is Skunk beer! Any bar I can walk into in Houston and can get $5 pints of Karbach Sympathy, Hopadillo, or Saint Arnold's Endeavor is sitting very high on my list of places to stop and drink beer. I'm probably not the fan any club on Washington wants, but oh well. Full disclosure: I'm a homebody. I have a husband and a kid and a respectable hemline and cleavage situation. I wear flats. All in all, I am not what I saw looking across the street at drunken girls wobbling on four inch heels with their bikini lines showing (from the top of their skirts and the bottoms, what an accomplishment!) That said, everyone's got pals who want to go out sometimes and I am forced to put on a brave face and pretend I am about five to eight years younger. Hence a night on Washington. The good news is this, I liked this place. People were cool, laid back, good drink deals (including the one with Yelp when you check in - $2 off people!) and nice indoor and outdoor seating. That said, it, like most of Washington, was kind of dead - though this place was not at all depressing about it and was def my fave place of the night. To 90% of patrons, I'm sure that's a turn off, but I dug it. Good seating, games, nice time. And the taco truck in the parking lot came in very handy at about 2:05 am when I, the designated driver, helped my inebriated pals get some food in them. My friend said it was crazy busy and had a live DJ the last time she was in, so perhaps something was just up with Washington this past weekend. read more

I am not a Washington Ave. person. I've tried establishments there and just don't care to be elbow-to-elbow with bros, and I tend to look for more conversation from my bartender than a head nod asking for my drink order. Enter Underdogs. I first came to Underdogs in January '13 after reading about "dirt cheap, high end brews" (talk about speaking my language!) and knew that I was home. Excellent draft selections, plenty of cold craft bottles, full bar for everyone else, and they even infuse their own liquors. The bar is open air, with a HUGE patio that invites you to sit and stay all day. So, maybe you're not a beer expert. No big deal. The owners, Dustin & Steve are both extremely knowledgeable and happy to help you figure out the right choice for you. Speaking of the owners, they're active in charity/non-profit work - I've seen multiple dog adoption events on the patio. Definitely will return (tonight, actually) for some delicious beer, great conversation, and a cigar on the patio. read more

Washington is trying it's hardest to add more polished establishments but some times it's those good ole' dive bars that really make you want venture down this stretch. Underdogs is a pub that you want meet your buddy for a post work beer or possibly sip in peace to watch the game because your family is driving you crazy. It's casual, it's relaxed but most of all it's a downright chill bar. You'll probably be interested at sitting at the bar but the outdoor seating area is pretty solid. There is a taco truck that likes to set up outside so park your rear in a booth and enjoy. Bartenders are friendly but not overly intrusive, they offer great rec's on seasonal brews from one of their taps. Underdogs also has some artisan hooch behind the bar. Things like strawberry basil, peach cobbler and wait for it... bacon moonshine. Ask for a small sip and see what flirts with your fancy. Underdogs- until we meet again. read more

One of my favorite bars in Houston. Came on the recommendation of a friend of mine, and I was very pleased. Really cool spot to come and chill and sip on great drinks, and have delicious shots. And the prices are reasonable, finally the place that doesn't try to bend you over. The owners are extremely cool. I have been here several times. The first, they had barely been open a week, and again just recently. This is a nice chill spot that carries a nice beer selection. A long wood table to the right. A nice outdoor area, and plenty of TV's. The bartender/owner is energetic and willing to talk it up with customers. He prints a beer list pretty much every day, with what they have on tap, and what is coming up next. All fine and good. Though not much else to note. The music blares a little to much for my tastes. They will have food trucks outside every once in a while. About ten taps. Mostly local Texas offerings like Saint Arnold, Southern Star, and Buffalo Bayou. The selection rotates often, with a very large bottle/can selection. The also have a nice whisk(e)y selection. The same word keeps coming up...nice. Which is what this place is. Nice but not exceptional. Though there is nothing wrong with that. I will take this place any day on Washington compared to any of the other crappy joints within ear shot. read more

We got here kind of early so there was plenty of seating. Very relaxed atmosphere, cheap drinks ($3 drafts) and there is a taco truck right out front if you get hungry. Later in the night there were two fights, which in my opinion is just extra entertainment. The staff broke both of them up really quickly. Other info: Lots of dudes. The guy / girl ratio is pretty skewed. When you start a tab, they do not keep your card, which I like. Half outdoors, half indoors. Wear jeans. There are lots of parking options nearby. Stopped in yesterday since we were on this side of town. (We spend all our time in Rice Village these days). The bar was dark but had out door seating. The bartender, who was also the owner was very friendly and prompt with drinks! He had several beers on tap, I did not see anything over $5. I tried his Sangria. Delicious. That's all I need to say, not too sweet, light, refreshing, fruity... They also make some infusing that we'll have to be back to try next time. It's a nice little dive bar next to Pearl. I was in town on business for a couple days recently, and decided to give this spot a try. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. As the bar's description says, it is dog friendly, so there were a few well mannered pooches roaming around. The area in front of the bar is decidedly divey, but I do not mean that as an insult. It gives the place a very relaxed feel. Behind the bar is a different story. This place has an outstanding bourbon selection, highlighted by house infused liquors infused in house (bacon caramel whiskey; are you kidding me!?!?). The owner/bartender Dustin was laid back and a pleasure to chat with about the locally made alcoholic beverages. I watched my ball game and chatted with a regular about baseball for a couple hours before having to return to my hotel for the night. The background music was a great mix of southern rock & blues. I believe the owner said it was set on the Stevie Ray Vaughan Pandora station. The only drawback to this place is that they don't have food in-house. However, they have a pretty extensive delivery menu binder and supposedly a food truck frequently sets up shop in the parking lot. I will definitely return to Underdogs on my next visit to Houston.
