Fish and Chips
William L.

Great futbol pub with a fun atmosphere on the times I've been. The service has always been solid here even during busy times. (easy to get a drink thanks to the waitstaff circulating the floor) The beer selection is consistently good, and the overall vibe gives you that classic British pub feel, reminiscent of the Sherlock/Baker Street pubs I frequent back in the day. That said, the food was a letdown for me on this most recent visit. I tried out their fish and chips (even upgraded to the extra filet), and unfortunately it was one of the worst I've had. And that's coming from someone who's tried plenty of pub food around Houston. It was mostly thick batter, overly greasy and soggy, and the fries underneath weren't fresh, just limp and bland. It didn't feel like it was made to order or wasn't made with care at all.. Overall, it's still a decent spot to catch a game and grab a pint. Parking can get tight during peak hours, but the solid service and lively crowd make it a decent hangout for match day.

Bavarian pretzel

For a sports bar, the food is pretty good. I first came here on a whim for one of their food specials, and now I've been back twice! The service is definitely on the slow side, but they have an ordering app now that makes things a lot easier. Not everything on the menu is great, but there are quite a few things that are really tasty. I would NOT recommend ANY of the burgers -- the meat was bland and just not enjoyable. On the flip side, the Bavarian pretzel is amazing. It's fluffy, perfectly salted, and comes with a spicy queso that's smooth and has just the right amount of kick. 11/10. I also really like the chicken fried chicken. It comes with two sides, the gravy is delicious, and it's super filling. Not the best choice if you're looking for something light, but the flavor makes it worth it. 9/10. The fish and chips are solid too. Even the small portion is big, with a crispy beer batter and light, flaky fish inside. Comes with all the classic sauces, and honestly, it's comparable to traditional British fish and chips. 9/10. Overall, the atmosphere isn't really my favorite, but it works if you want to watch a game and grab some good food. With weekly specials and reasonable prices, it's definitely worth checking out.

What can I say, The Phoenix is a staple in the area. They have a respectable beer selection, consistent service, and better than expected food. If you're looking to catch a game (especially soccer, aka football in some subpar countries ;) ), this is a solid option. Everytime I have food here, I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I like it. Hint: you definitely wanna try their pub-esque items, as these are their staples.

Impossible Burger, Righteous Wrap

This place is a great hangout spot (especially for sports, tho the parking might get a little cramped), and definitely has good pub vibes. When it gets busy service can be a little tight, but I've never had a waitress whom I disliked. The beer selection is always notable for us, but this is actually a hidden gem if you're vegan - their righteous wrap is AWESOME, the Impossible Pasta is fantastic when you sub out the gluten free pasta, and it s hard to go wrong with the burger. Any place with a Plant Based section of the menu is a welcome bonus to us. A great triple threat!

Spicy pineapple margarita, karrage chicken, sausage rolls

Food is so good, the karage chicken was absolutely amazing!!! Nice and juicy and crispy paired with spicy mayo oooooo highly recommend and will be getting this again! The sausage rolls are also so yummy - tastes good with spicy mayo as well. My second time trying those :) The service was quick - our waitress didn't really seem that happy or maybe that's just her personality - she didn't do anything wrong, just didn't seem happy ;/ Ambiance is nice and chill!

Food: Pretty good for bar food! We didn't expect much but were pleasantly surprised! On the first visit we had grilled cheese sticks, chicken piccata and bacon Mac. The second time we had a chicken wrap and bacon Mac. All were pretty good! Service: It was decent, a bit slow at certain times but nothing absurd. Ambiance: Chill, divey bar atmosphere. Will return!

Free street parking, but it was a bit hard to find a spot on a Saturday night. Restrooms were also pretty clean. Most of the seats at the bar were taken so my partner had to squeeze in to order a drink, but it wasn't too difficult to get service. Service was also nice and quick each time he ordered a drink. I thought the prices were pretty good for how expensive drinks can be these days. They also have a happy hour that ends at 8pm every day and daily specials, but I forgot what they were. Maker's Mark Old Fashioned $10 Maker's Mark and Coke $8 Shiner Bock $5.25 Coors Light, Bud Light $4.50 My partner got 3 old fashioned's and thought the first one was too light, so he asked for less ice on the next one. That seemed to fix the flavor balance. There were 2 dart boards and a pool table, but I think you have to pay to play pool because there was a daily special that said free pool on Monday's. I think the darts are free though. There were a decent amount of TVs, but I think there was a sports podcast on when we went lol There were also a number of classic red leather loveseats that I think would be great for couples on dates. The patio in the back was very vibey and had a bunch of lights. There was a birthday party set up back there, so I think you can host parties there if you contact the bar. The floor was made up of wooden planks over the ground, so it wasn't unusual to see bugs on the ground outside. Not much to do about that for an outdoor patio though. There's also a comically large wooden chair that you could take a photo op in lol All in all, this is a classic dive bar that satisfies everything you want when you're in the mood to go to one.

Ambiance (3.5/5): Pretty much your typical Irish pub. Chill, lots of wood, a decent amount of TVs. The type of casual spot where you can have a good beer, talk, and watch a soccer game. Which is exactly what we did since the World Cup was going on. We sat at the bar. They also have a patio in the back, but I didn't check it out. Service (4/5): McElroy's wasn't too busy when we arrived, but service was solid. We had a beer, closed out, and we were on our way. Food (N/A): We were on a liquid diet, but I did notice that they have free hot dogs during Astros games. That's a pretty awesome perk. Drinks (4/5): As you would expect, heavy on beer though they have a full bar. When I'm at an Irish pub, I'm going to go with an Irish or British beer. They have a good number of those options too. Plus daily happy hours, including weekends, and daily specials. I love a bar that has a good number of deals. You'll find that here.

And if you've got a bunch of cash you are looking to burn for a yummy dinner because they're cash only. And one drink purchase is required. Amazing seasoning, which they actually sell I think! The steak itself runs about $35ish If you add a half rack of lamb, double that price. If you want one side, and or sausage add $5 each. This picture here is a plate with a half portion of steak, sausage, lamb, mashed tatoes. Not pictured is the other half portion + a beer that was with my Fiancée. With tip, this ran us $95 for dinner on a Thursday. Almost a benjamin, I wouldn't say this was a good deal but it was a tasty dinner. The husband is outside grilling everything on what looks like a standard home grill while the wife is taking orders. Orders go out in batches. They're definitely efficient and work as fast as they can, but with that comes a little abruptness- they aren't the friendliest, but they're focused on getting everyone fed. We got there at 7:05 and didn't get our food until 8:25. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely. The steak was tender and juicy. The lamb chop was charred perfectly. And surprisingly enough, the sausage was my favorite. It was JUICY. When you bite into it, the juices literally burst out. Something had a little kick to it... it wasn't the sauce, but I actually liked it. The jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes were also great.
