Great overall experience at Christian's Tailgate Bar and Grill. We were looking for an easy place to watch the NFL football game before our flight out of Houston. We were greeted and sat immediately, the restaurant was busy but had a fun atmosphere. Our waitress Jasmine was awesome! Great menu and the food came out quick and met our expectations. Was in town visiting a college student son. Saw that this was a sports bar home to many teams, so we knew we could catch every game on multiple big screens with loud fans. What we didn't expect was a menu full of way above average bar food. Some of the best burgers, fries, onion rings that we've ever had in a sports bar. The tacos, if you get the beef ones, come with delicious brisket meat rather than the staple ground or shredded beef you get at other places. So good. (There are three locations of this mini-chain, ut we only visited this one.) The staff was super attentive and ready to serve up drinks and food, as well as whatever brand is having a promotion. I used to visit CT's location in the energy corridor plenty of times because it was down the street from my job. We were looking for a good HH spot on the fly so we came here. The HH menu seems confusing for the bartender. She gave us the QR code but it only brought up reverse HH which isn't the same as the daytime HH, which I thought was strange. And FYI, according to the bartender, there's no food offerings on the regular HH menu, unlike at night. But why not, so stupid if it's true. Anyway, outside of that foolishness, she was a pretty good bartender. Service was good, it wasn't even remotely close to full when we went but even with the 20 or so ppl sitting at the bar, it wasn't hard to get her attention. We went for the Ohio vs. University of Michigan game and had a great experience. I called a head and spoke to Shane. Super nice and very knowledgeable! We got there super early and as soon as we were seated we were greater with great customer service by Jay! He was our amazzzing server! Super attentative and always checked on us! Even with all the excitement, he never left us hanging. Parking: Get there early. Parking is fierce. We got there an hour early and there were only a few spots left. Music: DJ is just okay. Music could be turned up a notch or two. Not in volume, but in hypeness. The music didn't consistent keep the crowd walking. It would be good to play dance music (e.g. line dances, etc during the intermission and half time). Ber Service: Definitely could use more bar tenders for the amount of people in here. But the drinks were good! We ordered off the Ohio State Special Drink Menu! We had the Ohio Mule and the Brutus Chiller. They were tasty, but I think they ran out of the Banana Rum, the second Brutus Chiller tasted off. So we sent it back for a different drink. Food: For appetizers, we ordered Fried Pickelss and Mozzarella Sticks. For our main course, we ordered the Bacon, Bacon Burger and the Buffallo Chicken Sandwich with half onion rings, half French fries. I should've ordered onion rings, the frieds were not the best. The Bacon Bacon Burger was good. The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich needed a bit of work, but I guess is what you can get for bar food. went for the $2 mimosa specials that were being advertised online. it was even being advertised as soon as you walk in on the chalk board. got charged $10 for two mimosas??? there were also NOTHING but kids in there. i'm talking underage! no bouncer so these kids were definitely 19-20. many of them were bringing their own alcohol into the bar. the bar let the kids on the mic all night, they were talking/cursing over the music. overall not an enjoyable vibe at all, better off going anywhere else on the street. read more

This was my first time going, the service was pretty decent and the drinks specials were amazing. They have a happy hour and a reverse happy hour. The food was good as well I asked for the best burger they had and that's what they delivered. Not noisy as all, not a lot of people. Only putting it on this one bc on yelp theres not one for the one in midtown on Bagby.... This establishment, especially the one on Bagby, treats their employees horribly!!! Not only did a pregnant employee get verbally assaulted but then the management actually agreed with customer, and told security to let her stay. She just threatened one of your employees, pregnant too, and you're going to let this customer stay??! A manager is supposed to take control over the situation, and handle things. She did neither. Absolutely horrible and later that same night, I saw this same manger doing shots!! I will never go back here again. These employees are people's loved ones!! They deserve to be treated with respect, and they have a right to feel safe and be safe, at work. Totally disappointed. I felt so bad for that employee. read more

**3.5 stars** I was surprised to see that a Christian's Tailgate popped up & took over the old Amazon Grill location a few weeks ago. I had only been to the Heights location once and remembered enjoying their burger my first go around (and since the new front patio looked so inviting), I decided to give it a try. I'm glad we got there early because once the place started filling up, our waitress became very inattentive. It took us forever to get our check and then for her to run our cards. I can only assume the lack of waitstaff is due to their newness and that they are still trying to fill their roster. As for the food: Started off with their Queso, Chips & salsa which were both ok; good but nothing special. Unfortunately the chips were WAY TOO SALTY, crazy salty, so next time I would definitely ask for unsalted chips. Their "small" 1/3 pound burger was not what I would call a small burger, it was plenty big enough to fill me up......especially since all their burgers come with fries (with an option to upgrade to rings for a $1 up charge.) But as for my burger, it was on the bland side (maybe because they forgot to add cheese I asked for) but the patty itself just didn't have much of a flavor. And I thought it was weird she asked my friend how they wanted their burger cooked yet neglected to ask me how I wanted mine prepared. I liked the batter on the onion rings however the fries where as bland as they could have be with absolutely zero seasoning. The article in HP (Houston Press) said it considered Christian's to be another "breast-araunt" addition to the neighborhood which apparently means family friendly sports bars. They had 2 arcade games for the kiddos and have plans to add a playground in the back soon. As for as it being claimed to be one of the "best burgers in Htown, far from it. I'll come back to give it another shot, let them get fully staffed and let all the kinks get worked out. I would've loved to enjoy the beautiful day out on their patio but we all know how Kirby traffic can be. May I suggest trying to construct some type of sound or plant barrier along the front patio to diminish some of the traffic noise. O-H! I-O! For the second year in a row we crashed CT's alumni party for the big OSU v Michigan game. SO. MUCH. FUN. we might as well have been on campus. Half the cars in the parking lot had Buckeye license plates or stickers, and inside was a sea of scarlet and grey. The game was on every single TV (and synced perfectly - audio too - which was impressive) and the place exploded with every single down. The live DJ was a special treat who played old school/party jams during commercials. $15 buckets, Buckeye drink specials, and $2/3 shots every time they scored made for a rowdy crowd! But, for the most part, it was slightly older crowds - some with kids (there is a little playground outside) - so nothing too crazy. I ordered off the extensive tap list and our wonderful waitress kept em coming. We chowed down on wings and fried pickles, both of which I'd order again. The pickles were cut into fries which I'd never seen before but made total sense. The only thing I could thing to enhance the situation would be some kind of shout out to each graduating class; could be fun to give a free beer to the oldest/youngest alumni for example, but primary to connect classes. Had lunch there today. Curious about the Hot Chicken sandwich. I swear... the best chicken sandwich I've ever had! So crispy and perfectly cooked with Cole slaw on the sandwich instead of lettuce. French fries were just right and the onion rings were off the chart good! Service was excellent and unobtrusive. We were there early so not a big crowd for lunch. If I could give this place a zero star I would . It is not dog friendly anymore . Dogs were allowed in the bar for last few years . New manager decided when it was pouring rain out on Saturday that dogs were no longer allowed in the bar and my 15 pound dog would have to go out in the pouring rain . My dog was in the bar previously when the owner was in the bar and when I told the manager this she said it doesn't matter what the owner thinks, she is changing the rules . I went to Christian's yesterday to see a football game that was not showing on local tv. This was the Kirby location. They were surprisingly open when the "claimed" their a/c was not working. The place was packed to the gills and me and others in my party were showing signs of heat stroke. Christian's should not have opened if their a/c was truly not working. They put oeople's lives in peril and having employees work in that heat is inhumane. They also need to stop allowing kids and babies to come to a BAR. The kids are playing with barroom drinking games like the oversized jenga and connect 4. Why they allow kids and babies in a bar is unknown to any common sense. This place is not bad. Visited with a friend who likes karaoke. I had some chicken wings and the were pretty good. We visited on a Friday night about 10 and the place was pretty slow. Several people did sing and if you are a newbie to karaoke and want to try it out in front of a small audience this is your spot. Outside the three of us there were 3-4 other 2-3 group parties. That's definitely a negative. 2nd there was a dog, assuming a service dog inside the restaurant at the bar and to top it off with the dog bowl, heck naw. This place has gone downhill fast. We came in one night some weeks ago and witnessed the owner yelling, cursing at and berating employees - even using racist speech. An employee told us that this is not a rare occurrence lately and that the owner has even hit on male staff. In addition, there are frequent car break-ins with the manager/owner doing nothing to improve security - just sending out employees to hurry up and clean up the glass so patrons won't notice. The class of people who frequent the place now are definitely not our kind of people. I would caution females especially to be careful. Lastly, our favorite server is no longer there. I have tried several times to give this chain a chance. Food is good, but service is terrible at the midtown and Kirby location. Waitresses are never timely with recognizing that you newly occupied a table. Takes 10-15 min before anyone comes to the table. Each time I've gone I had to go get the waitress to take our order. I went today (for the last time) and the waitress looked at us 5x and still never approved the table that was in HER section. I'm done! The TVs are numerous and the sound quality is great. I really enjoyed the outdoor patio. But considering good bar food is the norm in Houston, a bar with underwhelming food is a disappointment, especially when the prices aren't exactly cheap. The calamari was bland, the quesadillas were drippy with grease and sloppy, and the fried oreos were meh. The drinks were good prices, but my margarita was just okay while my friend's moscow mule was not good. Well the atmosphere is solid for a sports bar, plenty of TV's. And that's all I have good to say about it. It took 10 minutes for a sever to notice us, and we had to grab our own menus. We ordered two simple burgers, which the claim are their best items on the menu. The order came out wrong, with the wrong sizes and mismatched dressings, and they had to remake them, unfortunately when they came out they tasted like the burger patty was dethawed on the back counter for 45 minutes. Their fried shrimp IMHO are the best, the coating is just a thin crispy flavorful crust and the rest is delicious shrimp. I normally dislike fried shrimp because they are usually too much coating and super greasy. Here they do them right. They also know who to cook a steak. We ordered the monday special steaks and they did mine a perfect medium rare, with a delicious parsely butter and seaoned just rigjt on the grill mmmmmm. I know these two things are chefs kiss!
