They were really good, the dumplings were supposed to be pork and shrimp, but I don't think there's shrimp in it-so they be lying. The second course was the cucumber salad. As a fellow Asian, it was relatively spicy. The feta did cut it, but as far as Asian fusion, it was still spicy. I did mistakenly eat all of it as the last round was a seasonal hash. It was such a huge portion. The potatoes were, spicy and delicious. The eggs were soft boiled but was that weird spot in between where they weren't ramen boiled but not quite American runny. Funny texture. It was kind of a lot of food for $30. Will definitely have left overs! I probably wouldn't come out all the way from River North. read more

Um how have I never been here in the decade that I've lived in Chicago?! Everything was on point - creative, delicious, and whetted my appetite for said food item and made me only want more. My friends and I ordered different things - I got the salmon tartare and enjoyed the layered textures and burst of flavor that each component added to the dish. The crispy rice was v crispy and so so good. We all shared the bruleed bananas - what a fun dessert with so many fun textures and flavors that elevated the dessert beyond just average. Service was great and the restaurant was spacious and easily accommodated my group of 5. Def putting this place on my radar for future repeat outings. read more

I have added another regret to my short list of life's regrets: walking by bixi over 50 times and finally, just now, trying this place. Big mistake on my end, don't be like me. Get in, go with a group, go HAM. This place is amazing. We went on a rainy saturday evening. We basically ordered the whole menu, and everything hit. My favorites were the garlic scallion noodles, dragon roll, rangoon royale, and pork drunken noodles. The service was amazing. Our server was prompt, answered questions, gave great recommendations, and was just having a great time with us! Bixi just seemingly somehow gets better every time I go. Cocktail menu is always reliably great, the vibes are beautiful with the roof open, and even if the roof is closed and it's rainy it's just such a delightful space with the white pairing with the plants. Finally made it for one of the lunches and loved having some smaller plates to choose from, especially that Italian beef bao which screams Chicago and was delicious with a ton of meat. Also the rose teokbokki is so fantastic, surprisingly filling, but delicious. And the classic chicken sandwich is now only on the lunch menu, just be sure to ask for extra ssamjang. It's warming up which means it's a great time to dine at the Bixi atrium/patio! It's a really beautiful space, with the downstairs being more moody while the upstairs atrium/patio has a ton of natural light. The gochugaru fries are amazing, they're cooked in beef tallow and the seasoning is a bit sweet and spicy with a bit of lime. Rice crepe with pork was really good, the pork was fatty and marinated in a sweet and savory sauce. It came with some lettuce for wrapping and nuoc cham (fish sauce. It's a vietnamese style crepe with turmeric so it's savory rather than sweet. The beef tartare was just ok, I wasn't too fond of the seasoning. The cumin lamb noodles were great, and a huge portion size as well. I liked the hand pulled noodle texture and the lamb was super tender/flavorful. I brought leftovers to my partner and she enjoyed it, even though she typically finds lamb too gamey. I had the rules of the rhein beer which comes in a nice tall glass. It's a nice light beer that pairs well with their food. The server was nice and attentive. Honestly I'd come back just for a beer and the gochugaru fries, it's the perfect after-work snack. BiXi Beer is a fun twist of pan-Asian and Italian dishes. When we went, they had $5 draft beers and my friend enjoyed them. I got the Flamingoh cocktail which was very strong but had a plastic-like taste and edible glitter (which I was not expecting). For food, we shared the rose tteokbokki, scallion garlic noodles, and pork drunken noodles. Unfortunately, the pork drunken noodles had peanuts which was not clear on the menu so I didn't get to try it, but my friends said it was good. Our favorite dish was the scallion garlic noodles because of the homemade, thick, and chewy noodles. I give the food a 3.5/5 simply because I've had better Asian noodles for much cheaper and I've had better Italian food without Asian-inspired flavors. We also were able to participate in their Mahjong night which was super fun! Everyone was super friendly and helpful throughout the night. I can see myself coming back for another event like this. Also, street parking is hard to find but there is a lot behind the Target across the street with paid parking. read more

This is a a solid recommendation with unique Asian fusion flavors mixed with non traditional Asian dishes. There was a lot of construction a block down but it was easily walking distance from the subway station, and the place was not crowded at all on a Monday night. The best dish was easily the gochugaru fries, fried in beef fat and topped with a gochujang like seasoning with that sweet and spicy Korean flavor. Other good ones included the crepe, which reminded me a lot of pho including the veggies and bean sprouts, and the cumin lamb noodles. The biggest let down was the beef tartare, which had pine nuts and a vinaigrette underneath a giant rice cracker. Texture wise it's good mixing crunchy with the softness of the beef, but taste wise the beef didn't have enough meaty salty umami flavor imo, just sweetness. read more

3.5 stars We thought it was a mixed bag at Bixi but I doubt we will return. I must have walked past this place a hundred times but never thought of stepping inside, it is so unattractive outside. Inside was a pleasant surprise, it's pretty and comfortable. Our server was very good, he made suggestions and explained everything on the 3 menus well. We started with kimchi (good), cucumber salad (not good), rangoon royales (disppointing, couldn't detect any crab or lobster) and egg rolls (good but we ate the best rolls ever last week, at Pulilgu down the street). We ate the char siu bahn mi (ok but nothing special, needed a more flavorful pate) and the char siu burger (good). All in all it was ok but forgettable. read more

Popped in one early Saturday afternoon for drinks. Would have stayed longer, but sadly there was no elevator to the second floor skybar & deck. The first floor is a fully accessible bar and restaurant, which, I was told, exempted the owners from installing an elevator during the buildout. A bummer but that's how it goes with old buildings. The dining room and bar is swank, with a nocturnal opium vibe going on. I dug it, but it was not what we were looking for on a Saturday afternoon. I honestly didn't know what to expect going into BiXi Beer, but it was phenomenal! We went for Chicago restaurant and made a 9:00 reservation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host who let us know we could sit in a little lounge area or at the bar until our table was ready. While we waited, the bartender was quick to get our order and have light conversation while he did some cleaning. We ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes past our reservation time for a table which normally would be a red flag; however, we were having a great conversation and the hostess was quick to acknowledge and apologize for the delay due to only upstairs seating being available. I love a restaurant that excels at their wins but can also acknowledge & address any flaws. After we were seated, the hostess walked us through all the menu options, and we were quickly greeted by our waitress with water at the ready! While we were looking over the menu, I took some time to admire the decor & can honestly say there is not a bad seat in the house, and it is an elevated yet home-y atmosphere. Our waitress was prompt to return and get our food orders. We got the wontons, egg rolls, Bixi Make, garlic noodles, short rib, milk & cookies, and yuzu tiramisu. THE MEAL JUST KEPT GETTING BETTER WITH EACH COURSE!! And I say that with the starting point being a high bar set by rich and moist wontons & egg rolls, so you really can't order wrong here. All of the dishes were flavorful, visually appealing, and unique in there own ways, but I can truly not give enough recognition to the Yuzu tiramisu. Again, EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING, but the tiramisu was delicate in texture with the citrus providing a light citrus cleanse to your palette and the perfect level of sweetness to satisfy your sweet tooth hankering without feeling like you over indulged. The entrance is very unassuming, but once you step inside, you're greeted with a cozy, moody atmosphere on the first floor. Upstairs, there's a stunning open-window sunroof with lush trees and plants that create such a serene vibe. The menu offers a wide range of Asian fusion dishes, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which was a huge plus. I tried the Cauliflower Bao, the bao was incredibly soft and slightly sweet, while the cauliflower was nicely breaded with a light, spicy kick. It was really delicious. While the crab rangoons were freshly breaded and had a distinct seafood flavor in the filling, they weren't as sweet as I typically expect. They were good, but not the best I've ever had. Went here somewhat randomly on a Monday night right before Christmas because as we know, it's hard to find Monday night restaurants that are open! So glad that we ended up coming here though because the food was excellent. It is a small plate Asian fusion place and we were able to try several dishes. My one friend is vegetarian so honestly, I would like to come back and try some of the meat dishes. However, we tried the cucumber salad, crab Rangoon's, dragon sushi roll, scallion egg noodles and The salmon tartar. By far, my favorites were the crab Rangoon's, the egg noodles and the tartare. The Rangoon's were honestly the best that I've had in the city. These also have lobster and shrimp so they were very unique and bigger than the average. The salmon tartar was extremely flavorful and a really lovely presentation with the egg yolk on top. I was obsessed with the scallion egg noodles- Definitely these noodles were very Italian tasting, but with a slight Asian twist and honestly, I just loved them. The space was very big and open and felt very modern for Logan Square. Overall, it's a cool restaurant and a cool concept and I would come back if I was in the area, especially to try out some of their beverages and they have all of their house beers as well. read more

This place has been on my list for so long. And I'm pleased to say that in such a great food neighborhood, Bixi Beer holds its own. We sat at the bar and the bartender was so fun and asked us if we wanted glitter in our drinks. Um yes, we absolutely do. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and 2 noodle dishes. The food took awhile to come out, we probably waited 25/30 mins for the sushi which came out first. One noodle dish came out pretty soon after, which was kind of a weird progression and spacing. Sushi was solid and we absolutely loved the peanut noodles. So flavorful and just a perfectly executed dish. Our second noodle dish never came and we had to have them take it off our bill. It was okay because we were full from the dishes we got but a bit disappointing. They were busy and stuff happens. I will be back to try more of the menu, including a good looking brunch and happy hour. read more

We had a party of 6 on Mother's Day and this was the absolute worst service ever: 1) had to wait 45 min to place order and we had to initiate the conversation 2) wrong food delivered to our table 3) delivered 1 out of 3 ordered coffees 4) received 1 entree after waiting 1.5hrs 5) waited 35 more minutes for the rest of our 5 entrees ... gave up and walked out. 6) waiter visited our table twice in almost 3hrs In total wasted 3hrs during the middle of the day and had to go somewhere else for dinner. I'm not at the beach. I shouldn't have to sweat. It's loud. I couldn't hear the person across the table. Just be prepared. This is drunk stoner food. No deftness whatsoever. Great chefs serve great ingredients and accentuate them. If you blindfolded the diner, they should be able to tell you what they're eating. You are not going to have the slightest idea here. I had the hash. Ridiculous salt and fat bomb with a kitchen sink of ingredients piled in without reason nor rhyme. Some of which just don't go together. I feel sick after eating 1/2 of it. I tried my wife's benedict and found the same problem. Too much of everything. I watched a friend try to eat their greasy disgusting burger. He ate 1/2. Sometimes, less is more. More isn't always a good idea and in fact it almost always isn't. We were automatically charged a 22% gratuity. I cannot write here what I think about it or it would likely be edited out by Yelp. Our server didn't even know what a virgin bloody mary is and even when he was told it was just a bloody without vodka he still didn't get it. 22%. It's actually quite reasonable. The food at this point should be secondary. Surprise it's actually good. I had to char siu burger and my son had the breakfast burger. It's interesting because the downstairs vibe is different than upstairs, given the choice between the two I would probably choose downstairs! Would be good for a group as I saw a large party there! Dim sum brunch - delicious. Best Bloody Mary I've ever had, and I usually like a salad with mine if you know what I mean. It was so tasty on its own without celery and gherkins and cheese and all that. I also had the Rose Tteokbokki, which I'm glad I asked about because I was a little afraid it might be a floral dish but it was not - it described the color of the sauce I suppose. I would suggest another name because it was incredible, and it was amazing as leftovers as well. I can't believe I almost missed out on it! The bill was a little steeper than I would have liked but that's sort of the price of going out these days I guess. Worth a treat if you're looking to splurge! They are rich, velvety, flavorful and worthy of a plaque in a food hall of fame. The chocolate chip cookies brought me back to a time sitting my grandmothers kitchen carefree and happy. The added chocolate milk with whiskey was fabulous and made that happy a whole lot happier. The cocktails were divine and made with amazing ingredients that set them apart from anything average. Smash Burger is not a smash Burger if you look at the beef patties. Beef itself was not particularly flavorful but in combination with the other ingredients made the burger tasty. Sunny egg was not runny so it didn't add to the burger. Half the fries were overcooked without a fluffy center. Aioli sauce was good. As much as I enjoyed the soft bun, structural integrity was weak including the beef patties. The burger began to fall apart after the second bite. My friend's chicken sandwich was alright. Chicken was crispy but neither juicy nor dry. Nothing to praise or criticize about the mochi pancakes; I tasted the mochi texture. They have a dim sum menu which is just offensive if you grew up eating dim sum. $10 PER dish and among those dishes is Sichuan peanuts and kimchi. Charging $10 for peanuts and kimchi EACH? When it was very slow so our service should've been half decent. The service is bad, half of the beers were out. The wait for our food was insane.. I had the Italian beef bao. I had been eating Italian beef all weekend from different places, but this was definitely the worst. And I fully understand that this was a fusion, but it didn't make any sense why it was so spicy, to the point where I couldn't even eat more than the first bite because my mouth and lips were on fire. I tried everybody else's food and some of the other plates were not bad, but they were not great either. I don't feel I'm a hard person to please, but I really regretted picking this spot to eat. Went to BiXi for the Owen & Engine 'residency. ' This limited time offer ends in March 2024 and is only served on Mondays and Tuesdays. Since this is the 2nd best burger in all of Chicago, it really should be a full-time menu item. It would be a crime against humanity if this burger were to vanish once again from the tables of Chicago's meat-eating public. This patty is something to behold with respect and reverence. At first glance, it is massive. Upon further investigation, the crispy, yet subtle char on the outside compliments the super juicy and flavorful meaty inside. Perfectly seasoned and expertly cooked to medium, this burger was served on an ideal protein delivery system. With the juices spreading across the plate, I feared the bun would fall apart in battle. But, NAY! Not only did it survive; it thrived under the pressure and soaked up all the juicy goodness. Every bite of this masterpiece was a warning shot across the bow of every other burger baron in the Chicagoland area. The ratios of bun:meat, meat:cheese, and onions:meat harmonized like Simon & Garfunkel in Central Park. Also, the Toffee Caramel Date Cake was excellent! Go. Make your reservation. My friend recommended we hit up Bixi Beer, and I was pleasantly surprised! This spot has the PRETTIEST interior. My goodness I was BLOWN AWAY by the gorgeousness. We then went upstairs (who knew they had an upstairs?) with the opposite ambiance, and still gorgeous nonetheless. It was bright and airy, light, happy, pretty, oh my goodness I was seriously shook! We were seated on their upstairs patio and it couldn't have been a more perfect night to dine al fresco! The night got better: we were told Mondays they have "KFC night!" What does this mean? It's the BEST DEAL IN TOWN is what it means. For $25, you get: 3 pieces of fried chicken, french fries, korean BBQ sauce, a beer, and a shot, 4 different small veggie plates to share and a large kimchi pancake. THE NIGHT KEPT GETTING BETTER AND BETTER! Everything we ate was aaaaaamazing. Truly. The chicken was juicy and was battered instead of breaded so the fried exterior was so crisp and delicious. Everything was served hot and fresh (aside from the colder cucumber and other veggie sides like a potato salad). My friend's favorite part was the kimchi pancake. Ugh I want to go back and eat it all again - plus: what a freakin good deal!!! The shot options were bourbon or soju. We both opted for soju (after googling what it was - "tastes like a lighter vodka") and were pleased with how smooth it was. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch and we were quickly seated upstairs which had a nice ambiance. The sun was shining through the windows up top so it was much hotter than expected (normally I run cold too). I had the spicy fried chicken sando (Japanese milk bun, tobiko mayo, ssamjang, lettuce, pickles, jalapeños). There was no kid's menu available so I ordered the berry mix mochi pancakes for my toddler. Hubby had the char siu smash burger (pork belly, two handground slagel beef patties, grilled onions, american cheese, sunny side egg). I enjoyed my chicken sando-the chicken was flavorful and the ingredients worked well together. Hubby also liked his char siu smash burger. I tried a bite and agreed but it was a bit messy. Our friend also got the char siu smash burger and his fell apart so he ate his separately so he didn't get the full experience IMO. The fries were mediocre and were kind of stale tasting. Toddler enjoyed her pancakes but enjoys carbs and fruit. I tried a few bites and missed the mochi texture but the pancakes were good overall. read more
