We were in town for a concert and stopped in for breakfast and a coffee before our 3 hour ride home. I got the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and my husband got the polish burrieto. Both were fantastic! My latte was delicious but very hot. I couldn't drink it for a while on our drive. Our treats were delicious! A cider donut and a blueberry coffee cake muffin. The style and vibe of the bakery was cute and clean! I commented on how cute and updated it was inside. The staff was super friendly. We got to watch 5 deer out in the field while we ate breakfast. Hidden Gem of all hidden gems! I needed a coffee in the area and found the closest cafe. Top five chocolate chip cookies in my 54 years . Coffee was really good and service was excellent. Do not let the outside of this place fool you, when you drive by you may think to yourself "I'm not sure about this place" as I did but, a friend really wanted to try it so we went in. It is really nice inside with huge windows with a great view of the countryside. It is being renovated so the inside is all new. The food is all fresh and they have fresh bagels and great drink choices. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They made my egg exactly as I ordered it. I got the Phoenix. It is an egg and cheese bagel with a homemade jalapeno cream cheese and I chose the asiago bagel. I also got the peppermint mocha hot cocoa. It was the best egg sandwich I've had. The cream cheese is what makes it different then other egg sandwiches. Put this place on your bucket list. On a side note, the bathroom's are the cleanest I've ever seen. read more

Stopped in a few times since they opened for delicious pastries and coffee, today I got to have a breakfast sandwich. Bacon, eggs and cheddar on a Portuguese muffin was a perfect way to start the day along with a cup of their awesome coffee. We've been a couple of times to Bittersweet Bakery, and our party of three or four have always been happy. Today we came maybe half an hour before they closed, and they were super nice about letting us know that they will be locking the door at closing time while we are there, but we were told that we shouldn't feel rushed. Our food has been excellent every time we've gone. Very fresh ingredients and really nice breakfast sandwiches. I vow to try one of the coffees if I get there earlier in the day ... It's a lovely place with some unusual food and coffees and ... quite frankly ... if we are nice to the behind-the-counter workers, they are always nice to us. Not gonna gripe about the prices (after all, I'm the one who decided to COME TO THIS PLACE) ... all I know is it's a nice place that's a little different from the other places I like for food/coffee in the area. My husband and I came in January to grab some breakfast, but after not seeing much on display decided to try a pastry and some coffee. Both items were good, but wished there was more of a variety. I figured it just opened maybe in time there will be a nicer display of baked goodies. So just yesterday I walked in with my teenagers and was hoping to see a nice display of baked goods. My daughter whispers to me "Slim pickings." We purchased some cookies and a turnover and it was delicious. I just feel like this place needs a cozier feel to it. It's a good size place but when you walk in and see only one shelf of a few items in their display case it's a bit of a downer. I wish I could have better things to say but...... We were on a day trip and stopped in for the first time ever. We ended up getting a few things to go. The lemon square was excellent, and the cinnamon scone was quite good. But the rest of what we got was disappointing, at best. The peanut butter cookie was average. We got two bagels, they were small, especially for the price. I asked for an everything with the most "everything" mix on it, and there was hardly any there. I added some at home when I had it for breakfast. The.most disappointing was the blueberry coffee cake. The only berries or strussel were on the top. When we cut it open, there was nothing but cake in the middle. Very disappointing. read more

Quaint little bakery with cafe seating. The menu is limited, but so good. Homemade bagels and cream cheese are fluffy and delicious. Breakfast sandwiches on bagels or Portuguese muffins are equally excellent. My London Fog latte (steamed whole milk and loose-leaf Earl Grey tea) was perfect. And our whole family agrees that their chocolate crumble cookies are divine. Rich like a brownie, but airy and soft; covered in powdered sugar, but not sickly sweet. Sooo tasty.) read more

Bittersweet Bakery & Cafe is a great little stop located right on 5 & 10. The business is about one year old, and each time I've been there, they've added something to make the experience better. They partner with a lot of local businesses to get their ingredients, like Tandem Bagel Co. from Easthampton, and a combination of local beers for sale. The food and coffee here is also delicious! Although farther away from me, I'll specifically drive down 5 & 10 to come to Bittersweet Cafe. The only improvement that I could want is perhaps more staff up front to keep the line flowing more efficiently. Although service is quick once an order is placed, there have been times where I've gotten stuck in the line waiting for my order to be taken for up to 5-7 minutes (not a dealbreaker for me) due to the cashier needing to help with orders. read more

I am so happy we stumbled across this place! I was so impressed by their wide selection of heavenly pastries, delicious sandwiches, and intricate coffee drinks. I had the sun dried tomato, spinach, and cheddar quiche and it was one of the best I've ever had. The person who made the pastry was clearly skilled at their craft because it was flaky, buttery, and the perfect texture. Highly recommend the carrot cupcakes! The cinnamon buns are flaky and deliciously toasted. Good espresso drinks, especially the cappuccino. I stop in here about once per week, either for a bagel and coffee on my way to work, or a pick-me-up espresso and bakery item afterwards. An average bakery located in Deerfield. The cookies are good tasting and a good size. Tried a breakfast sandwich which was pretty bland tasting. The meat was warmed up in the microwave as well as the premade egg patty that was spongey. Ciabatta bread was at least toasted lightly. Otherwise I wish they'd make good breakfast sandwiches. Compared to Muffins and coffee roasters these are not that grest. I'm sure if they improve from using an egg patty to cooked eggs and good pieces of ham vs a deli meat variety it could be good. read more

WOW! First time visiting the bakery and they certainly didn't disappoint. The shop is cozy, yet modern and has tons of options in the case to pick from. After receiving a couple recommendations from friendly staff, we went with the blueberry coffee cake, Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies, and iced coffee. The location of the cafe is great, it has nice windows looking out tot he beautiful landscape of Deerfield. The space itself was cold. The food and drink coolers were basically empty. There was also no music playing, which I found a bit strange for a cafe. There are a few sandwich options all with deli meat. I had an espresso, it was very smooth and I would get it again. Meh. That's what I've got. I work down the street, and was super excited for this place to open. After an unimpressive initial visit, I have continued stopping by every month or so, in the hopes that things will get better...but I end up feeling annoyed every time that I do. The building looks lovely. They've done a huge renovation both inside and out. They kept some of the old beverage coolers from the market that was here before. This would be fine, except that they don't have the inventory to support them, and it just looks super awkward. The bakery options are laid out near the register. The display is adorable, but the selection is weak at best. They've got some cookies, one or two types of muffins, and a handful of other (really random) items. It is definitely not the sort of selection you'd expect at a bakery. What kind of bakery has biscotti but no cakes, cupcakes, croissants or bread? Of the baked goods I've tried, the macaroons were terrible (dry and salty), the cookies were average, and the cupcakes (special ordered) were very dry. Only the sour cherry tart and the lemon squares were something I would order again. Also, I find it super annoying that the prices aren't posted for baked goods (and none of the employees know them without ringing the item up on the register). I guess you could make the argument that this is more a "cafe" than a bakery...but I don't think that would fly either. The sandwiches are unimaginative and bland. They're made with average quality lunch meat and equally unimpressive bread. The portion sizes aren't big enough to make up for the mediocre quality. The coffee is OK, but nothing to write home about. Even the staff seem to have a "eh, whatever, I'm here" sort of attitude. All in all, this place has a lot of potential that isn't being met. It is in a prime location, on a busy road and within range of most of the industry in town. With improvements in quality and selection, it could be hopping during the morning commute and office lunch hours. read more

Great stop if your in the area... Stumbled upon this sweet spot (pun intended) while on a day trip to the area. Warm space makes you feel right at home. We tried a number of baked goods that were available at the end of what the proprietor said was a very busy Saturday. We tried the Lemon/Mascarpone Mouse Tart, the Smores Cheesecake, Blueberry Coffee Cake Muffin and two kinds of cookies, peanut butter and a chocolate crinkle. Everything we tried was insanely delicious. All the other baked goods we saw in the case looked awesome as well. We saw some special order Pumpkin Sweetie Pies (the owners take on traditional whoopie pies) filled with cream cheese filling which I immediately wanted to devour. Unfortunately, they weren't available for general sale that day. That is fine as it gives me an excuse to come back! The staff was super friendly and I saw that they also offered all kinds of specialty coffees etc...and what looked like a great breakfast/lunch menu. I really love places like this and hopefully people that live in the area support this gem. My only gripe is it is over an hours drive for me....boy I wish I lived closer. Went to the bakery for the first time last week to place an order for XMAS. While there, took a pb cookie for the road and a individual blueberry coffee cake. PB cookie was think and large but was on the dry side. Nothing to write home about. The coffee cake was actually very light and had a good taste/texture, but was skimpy on the blueberries. With that being said I ordered a pecan bourbon pie and a dozen and a 1/2 XMAS cookies to the tune of just under $40. Picked up XMAS Eve, and served the cookies that evening. Its a wonder no one broke a tooth. Thin, overbaked, and hard as a rock. The pie was served on XMAS however I left before sampling myself. Today I have heard from 2 family members that the pie was "gross", "inedible", with some of the worst crust ever. I am so disappointed. Money was extremely tight this year and the $40 could have been well spent elsewhere. Will not be going back. read more
