This cute little cafe is a hidden gem! Our first choice restaurant to try had a line outside and Bits was close by. I'm glad we tried it. My husband had the classic bacon and eggs while I had eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached and the breakfast potatoes were crisp and delicious. Besides the classic Benedict, they also had a tomato avocado and a smoked salmon version. The staff was very friendly and efficient. My only complaint was that the tables seemed a bit jammed together, though there seemed to be more floor space available. I also like my coffee a bit stronger, though that's just personal taste. When a new brunch place opens up in my town there is a lot of excitement because we are kind of like a hungry mini-Portland - or at least we pretend to be! Enter BiTS cafe. They opened their doors a little over a year ago in an old Eddie's Grocery building that had been home to quite a few revolving restaurants throughout the last decade. It was also down the street from our house so I was extra pumped! I stopped by shortly after they opened to get a...bagel. They didn't have a full menu for awhile and tried different things as displayed on their Facebook page and sandwich board out front. The owners are a younger couple with a young family. They had never had a restaurant before and their I experience showed...for awhile. They'd be open then closed for awhile. They'd advertise a fresh salad bar- then close. I was admittedly not very hopeful this little place would make it. Then a few months ago - or more - something shifted. Brunch became a regular thing. I went with a friend and despite open seating at the time which I didn't like the food was awesome! Fast forward you two more visits and again great brunch. Very fresh, egg and vegetarians options, pricey but good smoothies, super hipster but friendly local servers. I'm sold! Avocado toast? Eggs Benedict? They've got it. Soups and burritos and French toast with unique flavors and spices that work - yes indeed! The special breakfast has incredible flavor but it was sort of small so not the best meal if you're coming in looking for a lot of food. The salmon eggs Benedict is better for that. Amazing place! Stopped by for my visit today to grab some breakfast. Clearly very family friendly, I love that! I was immediately welcomed by a very friendly woman who took our order. She was so kind and helpful! I ordered the breakfast special, even though I had eggs Benedict on my mind. The special was toast (artisan bread) topped with goat cheese, steamed greens (holy delicious!), poached eggs and a balsamic glaze (again holy delicious!!!!!!). I was hoping I had made the right decision immediately after ordering, and turns out I did! It was so tasty, I can't even!!! I want to buy some of the balsamic glaze for salads at home, yum! I live in the neighborhood and pass by on my way to the nature trail...When Heart's Mesa moved out (to a space downtown) a few months ago and the space became vacant (again) I was thinking that that spot would be perfect for a tea & coffee type cafe. I went in on the first sign of it being open...the A-frame sign that said: "We are Open". Thanks for that. It's always nice to have a clear indication. I went in and they didn't have tea yet. I'm not a coffee person at all. And they only had a few pastries left. I got some water and a croissant. I came back that Saturday with my boyfriend. Still no tea, but the smoothie bar was open, they had significantly more pastries in stock and they had bagels available. I got a smoothie and a morning bun. Both were good. My boyfriend got coffee. I bought one of the $6 bags of day-old pastries for later. Always a great idea. I noticed people on laptops, so I assume there is wifi? and saw some outlets. Scoping things out for when NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) starts up in November. I'm always looking for good places to host write-ins. Overall it's has that simple classy atmosphere going on which I really like. Bits is right in the middle of a neighborhood, probably was someone's home at one point, and rating this place 5 stars is like giving Chuck E. Cheese a Michelin Star for their pizza. There is no breakfast, and there is no brunch. I guess they could call it Bits n Bagels, as they did have some bagels. I'm not sure what this place would be classified as, or what it is trying to become. Right now it reminds me a neighborhood liquor store that also serves coffee and has seating. I guess this place would be cool if I lived across the street, was craving an onion bagel, and wanted to wash it down with some coffee or an IPA. The area is older and complete with some sketchy people walking around. If more than 3 cars are ever at this place I'm not sure where you should park.
