In town for a wedding. Breakfast with family members. We arrived 730am as we had been informed that at 8am the place fills up quickly. It was good advice. The place is a basic diner-type restaurant with good ambiance. Service was great, cheerful and efficient. We had a few cups of coffee and placed our orders. The food was very good and served as requested. I like my bacon "nuclear " and that was how it came. My wife got a BLT with a runny egg on toast, (not on the menu). It was perfect. Quick and friendly service. I got the Amandas Choice omelette which was cooked perfectly. Coffee was prompt and refills abundant. Biscuits were next to perfect! Prices were reasonable. Got a patty melt with onion rings and it was okay. You pay an upcharge for the onion rings but as you can see from my photo, you get a small portion for that upcharg. That milkshake though was great and made of tasty ice cream. Everytime I end up at this place I enjoy myself. It's not a fun vibe but more of a quiet vibe. It's not bougie, but homey and I like it. I go here a few times a month for breakfast. If you go early ( before 8am) on Sundays, you will beat the rush. Breakfast is good. Lots of food. Bacon & Egg breakfast is a lot of food. solid value. They need to give you an option to substitute one pancake in place of toast with your breakfast. Pancake batter is cheaper than bread, so no idea what they are thinking. Jelly process needs to be addressed. If you like marionberry there will always be some if the basket is on the table. Sometimes you can get strawberry. You will never see: Apple Grape Peach Orange Marmalade Blueberry Red Raspberry Another irritation, they will use old/ dirty wet rags to wipe down tables and never dry the table. Two huge thumbs up to Mr. Dougs Restaurant in Yelm! We had a medical appointment in Yelm a while back and it ran up to dinner time. Hungry and tired from driving around, we knew we were too far from home to wait and eat until we drove back. Instead, we looked around for a homey and comfy looking spot to dine. We found it at Mr. Dougs! My wife ordered the Turkey Dinner and she was very happy with it. Hot, tender, and moist turkey meat served with potatoes, veggies, stuffing, cranberry, and a dinner roll! It was like a delicious T-giving meal in July! I had one of my all-time favorite dishes ... Country Fried Steak! I don't know what it is about it (maybe the pounded meat, maybe the light breaded fryness, maybe the yummy gravy ... nah, it's ALL of it)! I love this stuff. I've tried a good number of C.F.S. in my years, and Mr. Dougs ranks up there with the best! Good quality meat, perfect amount of breading, and the gravy was great. I could tell it was fresh and not sitting out on the serving tray for a while, as the breading wasn't soggy with the gravy - nice job! Our son got a hamburger and he liked it too. A couple two or three Root Beers to wash it down with and we were good to go! The service was great too. Friendly, down to earth, real people! A nice change of pace from being in the big city for so long. Waited an hour for our food. Finally had to call it quits and leave, since we were already going to be late for work. I go to the counter to at least pay for the coffee and orange juice, and they charge us $48 for the food we never got. We came in for dinner tonight at 630, as usual they were busy and as usual it took ten minutes to be seated. No big deal as I have been here a few times before and that seems to be the norm. They are also on the slow side when it comes to taking orders and bringing out food. However tonight is the last night I come here. It's a diner, most of what they serve isn't fresh (that's a given) so cooking it and serving shouldn't take almost an hour! An hour for diner food ? That's a joke and this place needs to hire a hostess and some bus boys so the waitresses can do their job instead of running around like chicken with their heads cut off. If this business can't handle a Friday night dinner rush maybe they should rethink being a "restaurant". Edit: We received our food. Cheese sticks were burnt and left to sit because they were cool on the outside and just nearly warm on the inside. (They also brought them to the wrong table, before they finally found us) then I got my food I got the meatloaf and it was absolutely disgusting! It was cold in the middle and very obviously had been sitting out for a while. My husbands burger was bland and smothered in mayonnaise to the point it was the only thing you could taste. I asked for gravy on the side and it wasn't and he asked for no tomato and his burger had it. To top it off they gave us our bill and it was the wrong bill . We got a 10% discount but the $2.00 it saved us really didn't make up for how disgusting the food was and how bad the service was. This is my first and last visit to this restaurant we ordered Philly Steak and French Dip and had to reorder because they had no hoagie buns. Waited over 15 minutes for the server to return to take our order after three other regular customer orders were taken. we waited an additional 30 minutes for two burgers, the entire time the waitress walked past our table at least 20 times serving those regular customers there food that came out before us not once did she stop to say anything about our order. By this time we had been sitting there over 45 minutes. I said do you have any idea when we will be getting our food??? I was so taken back by being ignored I found it very rude. Sorry Mr. Dougs- I wasn't impressed..... My wife and I ordered the same exact meal- this being a first visit to the restaurant. The waiter was extremely nice at first but was so busy talking to his friends that showed up right behind us. Sadly we had to flag him down twice for items such as our place settings and he seemed bothered when we asked for additional napkins ( he brought us just one more) now for the food........... breakfast 3 eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. same order....... Wife's plate shows up, it has sausage. Husbands plate shows up, it has bacon. He looks at us and says umm something isn't right....... We tell him no problem we will let it slide. we shouldn't have..... the eggs on my plate were runny. wife's plate burnt. hasbrowns were dark to almost black on mine, golden crisp on hers. the bacon was so over cooked it was curled crisp and dark on 3 of 4 pieces, the sausage was cold in the middle. Either the cook has a split personality or the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Either this was just a bad day or this is the inconsistent norm of the restaurant. read more

Best chicken fried steak breakfast anywhere around. It seriously didn't taste like a frozen product. The biscuit was perfect.... Not dry at all. The freezer jam they serve is divine as well. We usually have one waitress that is just RUDE and purposely makes people wait, but today, my husband I walked in for dinner at 7:50pm and were told we wouldn't be seated because they were closing down the kitchen since they close at 9 (even the door says 8:30). If you're going to stop seating people 40 minutes before You close...lock your door and change the damn sign. Yelm needs some decent restaurants that are open until at least 9....actually open. And to the staff that don't like their jobs...quit and go work elsewhere. Things like this really count when it comes to a resturants reputation. I'm pretty disappointed today. Nora is the best Server we have had in a long time! She's a hard worker. Trevor, who seated us, was also friendly, helpful & also kept smiling. I had the fish n chips which was par for a diner. It was pretty busy when my son and I came in tonight. I don't know what our waitresses name was but she was rude. We waited a good 30 to 45 minutes for our food . We were sitting at the table right by where the waitresses are coming and going bringing food and not once di d our waitress stop by and let us know it was gonna be that long. She walked past us at least 10 times. Customer service can go a long way. Would have liked to have been acknowledged like a paying customer. The food was not as it usually was. Had occasion to be in Yelm for the first time in a long time today and after stopping at Stewart's Meats in McKenna was famished. My wife spotted this place inn a shopping center off the road and we decided to give it a try. I had my usual try-out dish, chicken fried steak and eggs and Kathy had an "Amanda's Omelet" which contained avocado, bacon, cheese and tomatoes. My CFS was less than inspired with a rather tasteless gravy, and although the eggs were done to perfection my english muffin was under-toasted (sigh). Kathy said her omelet seemed to have been made from Egg Substitute or egg whites and she was less than impressed. Ate a pile of food here today. The chocolate cream pie was especially good. I'm only taking one star off for the prices. The pie was huge, but honestly more than I needed and at $4 for a slice, it is unfortunately enough for me to tack that off. The pie was absolutely amazing. Just, if you cut it in half and charged me $1.99 for it, it'd still be a huge slice and I'd feel better about paying $2 for dessert than $4. You know? And it would still be the same price. The eggs are real eggs though, which is nice. The waffle was fabulous. I'd say order your hashbrowns crispy if you're the type that likes them really soft (I'm not, they were perfect for me. My husband would've hated them though). The fruit bowl was worth every penny I spent on it though, and that takes a lot for me to say that. Good food, nice folks, I'll definitely be back around. Consistently slow and consistently mediocre. In hopes of improvement, I've ordered the same breakfast six times in a row: French toast, sausage, and eggs over medium. Note to breakfast cooks everywhere: all egg whites should be cooked thoroughly. The "easy, medium, hard" part refers to the YOLK. My eggs have always been semi raw in the whites, and runny in the yolks. Every. Single. Time. Please tell me how you manage to produce practically raw eggs in twenty minutes. Yuck. This place has great breakfasts. Biscuits are the best you will find, made with yeast. Bacon is thick. Homemade soups are always good. We go to Yelm regularly just to have good homemade soup with our meals. Hard to find nowdays. The grilled turkey, bacon, tomato, swiss sandwich is my favorite. They are trying out having dinner theater lately. Haven't been to it. They are also offering a theater and dessert option. The Yelm Cinemas are nearby and are always very clean and nice to attend. The food is great, everything I have ever had, and I have lived in Yelm since I was 13 so I have had pretty much everything a few times, has been great, or they fix it! Great Shakes, and generous portions make this place one of our family of 6's favorite places for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I know we really aren't supposed to mention names, but Dennise is the best waitress ever (sorry Amanda)! She actually went to the store on her break and bought my daughter a different kind of chips because all they had were tortilla chips at the restaurant, now that is going the extra mile! We never knew her before she served us at Doug's, but now when we see her in town, it is like seeing a part of the family, she takes that good of care of us, and every one of her customers.
