With a group of 7, going out to eat is a challenge, especially in a new city. We decided to have dinner at Bite, which was in the hotel where we were staying. We were the only people in the dining room besides a table of two. I used the Yelp check-in offer to get a free appetizer, and we chose the poutine, which I enjoyed. Unfortunately, the entrees took a long time, the fish was dry, and my tofu was tepid - I was too hungry to send it back. Our server kept forgetting to bring sugar and an iced tea. Based on the first (and only) review of Bite, we decided to try having brunch there today before going to the Tacoma Art Museum. We were surprised to discover that Bite is a restaurant inside the Hotel Murano. The decor is pleasant and modern and we were seated immediately and presented lunch menus. It turns out that breakfast stops at 11:30, and that they don't do brunch on Saturday. We went on to order four different lunches, the Reuben, the Fish & Chips, the Rosemary Club and the Chicken Panini. The Panini was cold and barely toasted, so we had to send it back in exchange for another Rosemary Club (this was BEFORE anyone had tasted the club sandwich). The Rosemary Club sandwich featured processed turkey - the kind you get in a blister pack in the supermarket - and had a flavor that all three of my lunch companions described as reminiscent of Ben Gay. The Reuben was OK, and the Fish & Chips were actually pretty good. The service was pleasant and efficient - definitely the best thing about the place. They even cheerfully exchanged the cold Panini and took the second inedible club sandwich off of the bill. still, in the final analysis, two out of four of our meals were just plain bad, and that's an unacceptable batting average, even for a hotel restaurant. My husband and I had such a nice breakfast. The restaurant is located inside the Hotel Murano, which is beautifully decorated with glass art. The restaurant was packed, so we waited at the bar for a booth to open up. They serve Starbucks coffee and espresso drinks, the barista whipped us up an espresso and black drip while we waited. We watched the bartender fix at least fifteen bloody Mary's and he didn't skimp on the ingredients. After we were seated, we ordered eggs Benedict and french toast. I don't think they were prepared for as many guests as there were, the food was slow to come out. But, that didn't matter to us, we were there to talk and enjoy the ambiance. When the food did arrive, it was delicious. I've never had such perfectly poached eggs. My husbands french toast was cooked perfectly and came with a side of orange butter and mint creme fraiche. The orange butter was unbelievable tasty. The menu is small, but it was really hard to choose as everything looked good. The eggs Benedict came different ways, with spinach, salmon, crab cake or ham. My husband said the scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly and his pecan bacon was just right. I totally recommend going!! read more

Mother's Day brunch was a last minute decision. We stopped by Elmer's...a 45 minute wait and we heard the restaurant background noise from outside. On a lark we drove downtown, parked and breezed into Hotel Murano's THE BITE. It was quiet, we were seated immediately and the service was lovely, paced easily and pleasant. The food was fabulous. They had a special.Mother's Day menu. The Canadian couple sitting next to us with special food restrictions were also delighted with the selections, as were we. I have eaten at The Bite several times and am always pleased with the selections, quality and service. Why they aren't packed is beyond me. But delights me, too. read more

We were told at the bar that they would seat until 10pm at this restaurant. When we arrived at 9:40 on a Saturday night, the hostess was visibly upset and kept repeating how they were " closing at ten." I should've turned around and walked out right then but we stayed bc we had just checked in and we're hungry and tired. Husband got the burger and I got a Caesar and the fries with Beechers cheese curds. My meal was gross. Fries were cold, cheese was cold, and salad was so fishy I couldn't eat it. Server was nice but he also kept reminding us they closed at ten. ( They actually stay open to serve bar food till 10:30 and to do room service. ) This is another reason we will never stay at the Murano again. read more

Outstanding breakfast, cool vibe, very relaxing... I was staying at the Courtyard Marriott Bonvoy a block away, and their front desk actually recommended Bite for a nice breakfast experience, at the Hotel Murano. The hotel itself is lovely, with blown glass exhibits and huge glass boat sculptures, but it's the food that's the draw at Bite. The Eggs Benedict consisted of a duo of perfectly poached eggs, lemony hollandaise, and a good serving of nicely roasted home fries, with crisply pan fried edges, and soft waxy goodness inside, with just a hint of fried pepper and onions. I requested subbing out ham for Limoncello cured salmon for an extra $3. Totally worth the cost. The salmon was tasty, and had a nice browned touch to it, unlike the gravlax style I had expected. Really works well. I want this flavorful salmon topping anything! Coffee, sadly was very hotel average. Service is pleasant and attentive. The room is done in relaxing and crisp colors, and if you have the time, hang out here for a bit and enjoy the view and bright windows. My only regret is I don't live in the area, and can't check out dinner service. Please add the Salmon Benedict to the regular breakfast menu! And if the Hollandaise is made with Plugra butter, correct the Pulgra spelling... Enjoy the outstanding food, and lovely atmosphere! read more

Aside from paying $8 to park, walking, and walking, and then walking up two flights of stairs in heels, there is something not right about this place. #1. It's Friday night, and there is hardly no one there, we should have walked away. #2. It's quiet, too quiet. The atmosphere was cold, and unfriendly. #3. Our greeter was NOT friendly, nor did she even smile, huge turn off, seriously, I think that was the start to us not wanting to be there. She did not smile, she did not have food or drink suggestions, she did not ask why we were there, or say much of anything, I think that a robot would have been nicer. #4. I love simple menus, but I was looking for "Bite" meals, some small things to get a feel for what the restaurant was about. Nothing on the menu stood out. #5. We decided on dessert, and a drink - The dessert menu was not up to date. Honestly you are trying to "impersonate" an upscale restaurant, you need to be on top of your game, and having the correct items on the menu, and having everything up to date is a must, another let down. When you see things that they are no longer making, those items are now on your mind, and you start to want them, maybe because you can't have them, but it's just very unprofessional. #6. The menu food items seemed to be decently priced, yet the wines were a bit off, for wines that usually cost me between $6-$8 at places all over the sound, they were asking $10+ for the same wines. Being a step above the rest should not just be your prices. #7. The dessert was a chocolate creme brulee with strawberries in it, I think that the strawberries would have been better on top, not in it, but the chocolate was a great idea, although it was good, it was nothing fantastic. There were good parts. The place was beautiful, and the art is interesting, and we really enjoyed it. Our server was very nice, and pleasant, and because of her she talked us into coming back and trying a bite night, I guess that they do have "bite" food after all, it's just on another menu, who would have thought that you would have had to ask for another menu to know that. When the restaurant is inside of a hotel that is fairly popular, you can almost be guaranteed that it won't close down. I say this because my experience at the restaurant was cringe worthy. The ambience is Spartan and the bar scene is abysmal. I ordered the seared scallops and they were so salty that I almost couldn't finish them. I then tried the ceviche, and it tasted like someone had taken bay shrimp, chopped them up and threw them in a bowl and served them with some tortilla chips. So bland I could not believe it! I had the albacore tuna as my entrée. It was a small bowl with a strip of tuna served over quinoa. I tried to cut it with my fork, but that was impossible. The outside was cooked, but the inside was still cold. The top section just stripped off of the middle and I realize that this piece of frozen fish had not even been cooked all the way. And I don't mean seared with the raw middle, like it should be. I mean it was still frozen. Who serves frozen fish unless it's fish and chips?! The partner was in her late 50s and was so overwhelmed with making drinks that I didn't want to bother her with it but I had no choice. I sent it back and got the salmon which was served with asparagus. The salmon was bland but cooked okay. It was the asparagus that caught my attention because it was so gritty- I felt like the cook probably threw it on the floor, I'm not kidding! It was like sandy gritty. People always eat at this restaurant because it's convenient for them if they're staying in the hotel. And that's why it won't close due to food like this in service that was not even worth mentioning. I'm not a food snob, but I know what good food is. And for the restaurant to be inside such a nice hotel, it's almost like false advertising. Must miss! read more

The Bite is a classy, exceptional restaurant. I would highly recommend the Bite if you are looking for a fancy dining experience. PROS: My fiancé and I have been there a few times. Each time, we were instantly seated. The design is beautiful. When you walk into Hotel Murano, you can tell that you are going somewhere high quality. The lighting in the restaurant is very calming. Staff is pretty attentive when we needed water or more bread. The menu is diverse. Salads, soups, burgers, pasta, etc. But each item has its own finesse. I remember the Beet Carpaccio and the Green Market salads. They were very lite, refreshing, delicious, flavorful, but at the same time, simple. The Grilled Tofu was another item I tried. It felt Asian, but with an American twist with soft chunks of butternut squash. We tried the blueberry bread pudding also. Very, very, very moist, sweet, delicious, I couldn't stop licking the plate when no one was looking. CONS: The price. Ouch. It's a bit much for the portions you get. If you eat like a Viking, this may not satisfy your needs. The seating is also a bit small if you are stuck in a shared seating situation with other customers. You will hear loud, awkward conversations of the customers next to you. Apparently, it's a good date spot because we couldn't help eavesdropping while waiting for our food. Overall, if you are looking for something fancy with portions that aren't hard on your stomach, the Bite is a nice experience to enjoy. read more

Came here our first night staying at the hotel, I was not impressed from the start. The bus person sat us... Our server was overly friendly, and a little bit of a know it all... Although she did not know what ingredients were in most of the menu items, as I was looking for a vegan option for my son. After going back to the kitchen and finding out, she came back and said they had one item which was the Asian risotto. Really??? The Chef couldn't put anything else together? It wasn't crowded... Although my son said it was good, for an entree item it could have been a little more substantial. The gravy fries were good, and my chicken Caesar was ok, the chicken was really dry. My wife had the truffle mac and cheese, and it was bad. She only had a few bites, so I tried it and it tasted like bechamel sauce, no three cheese or truffle flavor at all. I have been to this bar many times and the happy hour here is a well kept Tacoma secret. I have tried every single item on the menu and each is delicious and wonderful in it's own way. The Kobe Beef slider, the fried green tomatoes, the calamari, are all SOOOO GOOOOD! And at 5 bucks a pop, you can't beat it!! The drinks are always, always tasteful and we sit at the bar when Karen is working because she has outstanding customer service. Not to mention, the surroundings are trendy, romantic, and super fun. The combination of outstanding service, great food (at great happy hour prices!) and cool decor can't be beat. I love, love, love this place. Was ok. The steak was fantastic. Very tasty and well prepared. Melt in your mouth good. But... That's what my friends got. My primavera was bland and not exciting. The gravy fries were good, but quite salty. I still feel parched. The salad was ok but the rosemary in the croutons didn't match the Caesar dressing. The service was not stellar at all and often we were without water. My daughter and I shared our meals and never was extra plates brought to our table. Our server was slow and not attentive. Finally a manager took our plates. My salad bowl sat on the edge of the table in everyone's way through most of our main course. We had to ask for it to be removed. If you're a guest at this hotel and don't get your room serviced they give you $5 at their restaurant or bar. I didn't have my room serviced 3 days so my meal was free. I ordered the All-American breakfast and was so satisfied. It was $12 so it was very expensive but the food was good as well as the portions. The bacon was thick, tender, and juicy! My gf wanted to try their happy hour and I expected a blah experience like usual with hotel dining establishments. It was worse. The drinks were pre-mix from the bar. There was only one server for both levels, and this is during happy hour. The bartender assisted her as did the busser, but she spoke little (or no?) english. The buffalo wings were naked. The oysters small and cold. The fries were good, but so are McDonalds, really. The calamari advertised non-existent. It gets two stars because the rolls were free. We went there for breakfast and stayed in the hotel. I got the vegetable hash, my sister got the croque madame, and my mother got the apple cider quinoa cereal. The hash and madame were BOMB. Granted, everything swimming in enough oil to get a bit of a fry usually goes down easy. The fries with the croque madame were seasoned in what I believe was a garlic, truffle deliciousness. This isn't four stars because my poor mothers quinoa cereal was SO dry and bland, the whole restaurant smells like a musty perfume which screws with your taste perception. and service was meh. Went to Bite on Labor Day and had a fabulous quiet dinner for 2 (Kobe burger and Truffle Mac & Cheese). Attentive and friendly service from valet, host, and wait staff. Waitress told us about Happy Hour from 4-7pm and loved the flexibility of the later ending time and vowed to return for HH. We were excited to find a spot the might become our new regular dining destination. Rating = 5 for food, service, and ambience. Tried it again last night for HH. There was confusion about HH menu, and I had to pull up the menu from my phone before we were given the correct menu. The house salad was as we remembered, lots of freshly shaved parmigiana reggiano and delicious balsamic dressing. Fried green tomatoes were disappointing - this time with batter thicker (and overwhelming the tomato) than our last visit. Kobe slider was yummy as before, but as sliders are - just a nibble. If you prefer milder flavors, don't order the fish tacos - very spicy!!! Boisterous noise level and not the calm and elegant ambience we enjoyed on our first visit. Service was adequate but not at the level as our first experience. Rating = 2 Averaged my rating to 3. We decided we don't need to return. read more

The bread was hard and cold. We sent it back, but they just seemed to have popped it in the microwave. The salad was ok and the fish was dry. Found this on trip adviser and had great reviews, and am pleased to add another for BITE. We loved everything about it: the lighting, artwork, atmosphere, the waitstaff and of course the food. We were promptly seated next to a window that had a view of downtown Tacoma and they had a special Mother's Day menu consisting of a great variety of choices for all tastes. The waitstaff were a perfect combination of being there when we needed them and our glasses and cups never were dry, as well as leaving us alone during conversations and eating. Between the 5 of us, 3 had the eggs Benedict, one had the sirloin hash and I had the Rum Bananas French Toast. Servings all around were plentiful and all were cooked and tasted great. I have only had breakfast at Bite, and that is what this review pertains to. The food was excellent and the coffee was great, which is why this review even gets a 3*. I ordered an espresso beverage from the server which was later brought by the barista. The barista brought a drink to me, but it looked too dark so I questioned what she'd brought me. Evidently the server did not express that the order was an americano with additives; the server asked if the drink had arrived and I explained the situation. Both the server and the barista seemed dismissive of their roles in the mix-up. Either way, it was not a deal breaker, but it wasn't a good look. I made my order with the server and expressed that I would like the check with the food so that I could close out and leave upon completing the meal. She brought the check out, but never came to collect the payment. I finished my meal and went up to the register to complete the transaction and leave. This wouldn't be an issue, but I was trying to set the stage for me to get out quickly as I was in a rush to get down to a conference. Again, the food was delicious, but I felt that the whole experience with the staff and its customer left a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

I give 3 1/2 stars. There were 10 of us that just met for a family lunch gathering of multiple celebrations. The service was very good, and our food and drink wre great! We enjoyed the atmosphere, the art and overall experience. I've read many of the reviews from others and don't feel the same negatives or exerienced negatives as they did. I enjoy good cuisine and experiences like the next person does but I'm reasonable, fair and don't consider myself a food an wine critic. I have nothing but positive feedback as WE ALL enjoyed our experience and appreciated the service! I felt the prices were reasonable and to be honest - the food prices were reasonable. Perhaps the people complaining have no business going out to eat, I got what I expected with a little more and the menu had a unique variety and health in mind. We like a clean, simple menu and BITE offered a little for everyone. Kudos and I recommend BITE for a fun and unique experience! I plan on doinga staycation there too! read more
