Came in here with a friend for lunch. The concept is a bit weird, looks like a restaurant with service and yet it's not because you pay upfront and if you want to eat in, they will deliver your food to your table in plates. It's get super packed during lunch and the service is pretty slow. I rather they hire more people in the kitchen making food instead of a dishwasher and a waitstaff. Customers can leave the dirty plates behind and walk out but when it gets so busy the waitstaff forgets to clean up. In the end other customers take the dirty dish to the register, so the system still needs improvement. I ordered the grilled chicken panini and my friend ordered a salad. Her salad was very tiny. She said it was good but my chicken panini was a little on the dry side. Not bad, although I probably eat something else. Not exactly sure how I feel about this place yet, maybe a feel more visits? read more

This is a great place to eat great food. I come here every time I visit the city. I've had the falafel sandwich and the mushroom pita sandwich and both were excellent. I went in there because it seemed very vegan friendly and I was happy they had vegan tomato soup. What a nightmare. My sandwich was missing the tomato, sun-dried tomato, and roasted red peppers it was supposed to have, pretty positive they cooked it in butter and not oil, even though I was very specific to make it vegan. And then 2/3 of the mezze I ordered were missing and for some reason my hummus had a sliced boiled egg on top. I was clearly upset, seeing I'm vegan and don't support animal cruelty, not to mention I haven't eaten all day. I called the restaurant to see how they could fix it and after being put on hold for several minutes, the guy said they would bring me what I ordered. I kept repeating my correct order over and over again, only for the guy to keep telling me it's not an option and he was trying to give me the option with dairy. He finally figured it out and after almost 15 minutes of this, he says wait and then asks if we can start all over, asking for my address and phone number again. I gave up. Not even worth the amount of stress and headache that just caused. Needless to say I ordered food from another restaurant and I will never go back here again. Shame, because I love Mediterranean food and it seemed vegan friendly and good prices. But when you mess up my entire order and take that much time trying to fix it while arguing with me the whole time, not worth it. This is the perfect place for vegetarians to bring their meat loving friends! They have a pretty extensive menu with lots of tempting options for all diets. I loved that the veggie options were unique and varied. I tried the vegan schnitzel, which was a breaded and fried cutlet of mystery veggies on a super crispy roll with creamy sauce and greens to top it off. The sandwich was indulgent and satisfied my cravings for fried comfort food - not easy if you're avoiding animal products! My friend tried the crepe, which was pretty big and looked great. The restaurant was packed during lunch, but we were able to get seats at the bar. I wouldn't come back for a sit down meal, at least not at such a busy time. It looks like they have an efficient set up for online ordering and pick up, though, so this will probably become my go to spot for workday takeout. read more

It has slices of eggplant with tomato sauce on top, toasted almond slivers, pickled tomato and onions sitting over a bed of mixed greens and under a huge dollop of hummus! It also comes with a side of warm pita. Such a good portion for the price ($8.71)! My friend got lentil soul and prosciutto panini and enjoyed it as well! We went on a cold Friday around 7, and it wasn't crowded. The ambiance is nice, as there are a lot of string lights and art on the wall (frames photographs and skateboard-looking objects with ceramic tile). Charming, unassuming little soup/salad/sandwich place with a slightly Mediterranean bent. First time in, I had an excellent breakfast sandwich I took to go - had a wonderful (optional) spicy sauce on it that gave the egg, cheese and tomato a perfect kick. I stopped in for a late lunch more recently, and found it quiet inside (perhaps off hours a bit?), which for me made it an ideal place to sit and linger with a book over lunch and a nice cup of coffee. The feta salad (basically a Greek salad) was excellent and the half middle-eastern sandwich (hummus, peppers, etc.) nice as well. The only disappointment was a mediocre pea soup. Staff was friendly and helpful. Finally, the prices for this amount of food at a Chelsea eatery are pretty reasonable by any standards, and particularly reasonable by jaded-NYer standards. One final note - I tried to stop in for dinner this past Thursday night, only to find a band playing in the front entrance. I was tempted to deduct a star for such an affront but, who knows... some people might enjoy such a thing. Behold the roast beef and swiss sandwich at Bite 22! Really appreciate when a restaurant gives you a double sandwich because of how tiny gluten free bread slices are. The bread they use comes from Trader Joe's. Tbh service is a little slow, so if I can I order ahead on Ritual. Sometimes they don't prepare the order on time so I'd advise alerting the staff that you're waiting for your order. The staff are really friendly and will help out if you are waiting. Rainy Tuesday evening; wanted a quick bite (har har) in the area that's relatively healthy. Surprisingly this spot was open, since it's usually popular as a lunch spot. Plenty of seating at the front tables or in the back stools. Big menu on the left side wall to peruse through. Had to get the Combo deal ($8) - half the Mediterranean Tuna Panini, and a small Spicy Back Bean soup. The panini is well pressed and includes marinated tuna balanced out with tomato and other veggies. The soup was a bit thin, yet contained plenty of beans and other vegetables while pairing well with the sandwich. Only complaint is that the soup was spicier than anticipated (they said spicy, didn't believe it actually would be that much of a kick). Thankfully a big water jug at the corner for everyone's convenience. For the money, this is a great value spot. I just need to start by saying that I LOVE Bite 22. They are an amaaaazing addition to our lovely Flatiron neighborhood. The staff (owner too!) here is friendly, helpful, just personable as can be & rather thoughtful. The food is, simply put, outstanding! I'm a creature of habit, so my favorite go to is the Prosciutto Mozzarella Panini, with Gazpacho (this Summer I did the 1/2 & 1/2 every single day). I've had the French Bite & Mozzarella sandwich with the Tomato Soup as well which were fantastic, but my Prosciutto Panini is still my favorite. I've taken some of my staff here for after-hours live music, drinks (yes! They serve alcohol too!) & appetizers. Some of the things we have tried are: the Moroccan Cigars, Bruschetta, Hummus, Mallawach, Panko Cauliflower, and Shakshooka. They are all just scrumptious! If you have a love for amaaaazing Mediterranean food, love a good ambience, and enjoy great company - Bite 22 is your place. Your tastebuds will thank you. My coworker told me there was a Bite in this area and I thought she was talking about the 14th street location. But lo and behold, there's one just 2 blocks south of our work! I used to go to the 14th street location all the time as a student because of the good food, even better service and great price! But even now, as a working fake-adult, I can enjoy all those benefits by working in the neighborhood. This looks like the newest of their 3 locations and I'm seriously so happy for them, they seem to be doing really good! I've now eaten at all 3 locations and I can say that each delivers that consistent food and friendly service. I usually go for the half-soup, half sandwich - goat cheese salad and mediterranean vegan sandwich, spicy. I seriously don't know what it is about their sandwiches that makes it so good. The ingredients seem simple enough, yet it's definitely not something I can recreate. Is it the spicy spread? Creamy hummus? Perfectly toasted bread? Smokey eggplant?! They use clean and fresh ingredients you can really taste. The goat cheese salad has apples, cheese, nuts and golden raisins that serve as pockets of sweetness amidst the crunchy salad. Like I said, simple but great. The food is filling and it really is a great deal. I definitely recommend this place to everyone, I'm sure you're bound to find something you like here! read more

I have come here twice and both times ordered the stew. The first time, the stew was lukewarm, but tasted good. I decided to give them a second chance and came back today and ordered the stew again. I arrive at 1pm, and needed to leave a few minutes before 1:30 to get to work, as I work close by. I figured I had plenty of time. I made my order immediately and waited. After 20 minutes of waiting, I spoke to someone at the front, and it turned out they had completely forgotten about me and my order. After another few minutes, my order finally came at 1:25. I had to leave in 2 minutes and the stew was scalding hot. I explained the situation to a different employee (who was also much nicer - thank you, man with beard in a blue t-shirt!) and he politely gave me a full refund. Unfortunately, this experience meant I wasted 30 minutes and had to skip lunch entirely. Coming to work hungry was terrible and affected my who I want to like this place and give it a chance, especially because it is SO close by. I want to be a regular. But the poor service and poor consistency left me with a bad taste in my mouth AND left me hungry. read more

Bite is our go-to, dependable spot in the neighborhood that serves great food. It was one of a few restaurants open during entire covid when everyone left the city and options were slim to none. I don't know how they did it but they never closed for a single day. We've been there probably a hundred times and every time the workers have been friendly and efficient. We nearly always get the breakfast sandwich which is such great value and tastes amazing. Wow - this was unexpectedly awesome! Went here on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch. Had a half sandwich, half salad combo for $9.50, which given the portion (see picture) and quality was an amazing deal. I got the Mediterranean schnitzel sandwich on pita. The chicken schnitzel was some of the best I've had in a while, and the hot sauce (get some on the side!) and paired sauce were perfect. The chicken schnitzel salad was even better - for a half salad, this could have been a full lunch for me on most days by itself. I thought about giving them 5 stars but when they got busy they seemed a bit disorganized. This is not roti grill as have plenty of different salads and sandwiches. My feta salad with turkey which was both large and good tasting. The side of bread was tasty also as used some to make a salad and wiped the bowl with other. I love this new location! It is definitely way bigger than their Union Square location and can fit probably 4 times the people. I ordered the Half and Half Combo with half a Grilled Chicken Panini (w/ grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, mozzarella and sundried tomato & basil mayo)- the bread was very crunchy, generously stuffed and it was a really big half! I ended up being full from the half sandwich and took my salad to go. The Mediterranean Salad consisted of mixed greens, hummus, roasted eggplants, a tomato/cucumber salad, pine nuts and almonds. Since this place seems newish, I wanted to give them another shot after my previous so-so experience. When my S.O. and I found ourselves craving simple Mediterranean fare on a rainy Sunday, I figured it couldn't hurt to try. While Bite has a nice setting and an appetizing menu, the QC really falls short. The staff is friendly enough, but young and too inexperienced to be at all invested in customer service. First of all, they seem more interested in chatting with one another than being at work. Hey, I get it. I used to serve too and sometimes socializing with coworkers is the only way to stay sane. But it shouldn't be to the detriment of customer service. And it shouldn't take 20 minutes to get two sandwiches and soups when it's not particularly busy. But where Bite really disappointed was with the food. With the memory of my last greasy, underwhelming sandwich still in the back of my mind, I shoulda steered clear of this place, but apparently, I'm a glutton for punishment. Not only were both of our orders excessively salty, but my BF found a produce STICKER in his soup. Blech! This could only mean that someone in the kitchen did not thoroughly wash the vegetables which made us cringe to think about what else we could have found in our food. One of the baristas was kind enough to give him a free iced coffee as recompense, but our appetites were shot and we couldn't finish our food. Next time, I'll pass on this spot. read more
