I was happy to stumble upon this one not too long ago and can safely say their sandwich and soup options were just as good as I remembered The vegetable split pea soup served up with bread to dip and soak, along with my fave sandwich here - Exotic Tuna (Curried tuna with golden raisins, red cabbage, carrots, field greens, and plum tomatoes) - were pretty much the same as I had in the other location. I was looking for a quick late lunch, and I came here after seeing by Chloe next door packed. The menu is very creative there were a ton of options to satisfy every appetite and palate. I got a combo with half vegetarian lentil soup and half salami panini. The soup was packed with different types of veggies, and it was surprisingly very filling! I love Bite! Started going to their 14th street location, I prefer this spacious location in Chelsea. I have been going here for a couple of years, since I was eating meat, and now as a vegetarian, which is nice they have options for both times in my life, lol. My previous go-to was Green Thai Coconut Curry with chicken or the Grilled Chicken Panini combo (either with soup or salad). Now my favorite is the vegan schnitzel, which I sometimes think about automatically when I'm in the area, lol. I will also get this sandwich either, in it's entirety, with a combo of soup or salad. Their salads are very refreshing so depending on the weather I will get salad or soup. The vegan schnitzel comes with chipotle mayo, and pickle in the sandwich. SOOO yummy. I often will dip the sandwich in usually a mix of lentil/tomato soup or with the salad dressing (balsamic vingerette). What's great is there is a little something for everyone here. Their seasoned fries are yummy and large enough to share. I've been for breakfast as well, I order ahead with Ritual (app) and get the Organic egg sandwich with fresh mozzarella, very hearty and satisfying with chipotle mayo (see a pattern :P ). My only knock would be that they don't need the volume on their music playing to be too loud as sound of customers music make it overly loud. I ordered a hummus plate with sautéed mushrooms. The hummus was fine but the mushrooms ruined it. Not only was the mushroom seemingly out of a can and flavorless. First impressions last a lifetime. Or maybe a few seasons. I'd first been introduced to Bite at their 14th street location several years back. It always had a somewhat grimy feel to it BUT they had an A food grade, so I tried them out. Fell in love with their Sabih sandwich which is eggplant, boiled egg and other phenomenal things. I finally stopped going when I saw a Grade Pending that turned into a B or lower, can't recall. But, it was enough to confirm the grimy feeling perhaps was real. But enough about them. Their sister location at 23rd is quite the improvement. Open space, bright, spotless, new fixtures, and inviting. I was actually heading to my vegan friend next door as I typically do, but stopped in my tracks and decided to give Bite another try. 4 years had passed and this was an entirely new and visibly improved location. I'd also read a review the night before that said they had vegan options. I walked in and scanned the menu and saw several. The cashier was so bubbly and helpful and even came by after I received my food to warn me that the sauce had honey--but no worries, I'm not THAT vegan. But it was thoughtful. Looked for a place to grab a quick bite (pun intended) for lunch in Chelsea and found Bite on Ritual. Ordered probably 10 minutes in and walked into a busy, loud, little restaurant on a weekday. I went to the back counter to pickup but my panini was not ready. It took a bit, however, the app did mention 10-20 minutes. Luckily it came out at a decent time and CNN was playing on the big screen to keep me up-to-date with the world. Place is pretty good. I enjoyed my chicken panini on rye. The shakshuka especially has a delicious red sauce and is served with warm, toasty pita bread. They were even nice enough to give us another piece of bread when we asked! I like the decor a lot, beautiful tiles on the floor and cool art on the walls. It was pretty quiet on a Sunday evening so it was nice that we could spread out at two tables. The fresh tomatoes and greens helps cut the oil. The hummus and roasted pepper tapenade is delicious as well. As if this amount of oil wasn't enough, I also ordered the panko encrusted cauliflower. I was shocked at how well the panko holds to the veggie and makes for a wonderful flavor combination. Sadly, I had to waste the tahini that came with it because it was too spicy. I wish they had more vegan options, since I basically already got the few items they offer. However, I would still return just to get the same two things. Their middle eastern salad is delicious but they have THE BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH in the city. The organic egg sandwich, sometimes add some cheese, is the best thing you can get. The vibe is cool, the staff has personality, and it's never crowded. This location has the most seating, so it's my favorite. Owner (or probably manager not sure what he is) is lovely and the food is great. However, cashier at the front ruined my experience. Usually my order gets taken by the ginger haired guy. He is super nice and polite and seeing him is a pleasure (very hard worker). However, the young lady who is also a cashier with black hair, wore it in a bun when I seen her and had a grey shirt, kinda short, has the nastiest attitude and is so unkind and rude. I politely greeted her and asked her a question about the food. She was brushing me off and making facial gestures as if she was annoyed. Granted, it was rush hour, but she didn't approach the other guests with this behavior, only me, the only woman of color at that moment. She had rude remarks like "huh" "what" "mmm-k" while I placed my orders with rude facial gestures. Honestly upset me the whole time. Another guy came in and placed his order, he was also a man of color. He pointed to the menu because he couldn't pronounce the name but tried his best and she gave him the same rude remarks and facial gestures she did with me! But not to the white people... Please find new cashiers that are willing to be unbiased and polite. Just because people need help and can't communicate the way you do doesn't mean that gives you the right to be rude! A line of 10-15 bags on the bar (where people sit?) with one dedicated pickup person who was taking credit cards and handling dirty dishes. I started working about 2 blocks away a year ago. When I first started at this job, everyone went to bite several times a week. Good prices, good food (and sizable portions) with little to no wait. I usually stick to sandwiches or the Mediterranean salad here, because that's what I like. Over the course of this last year, I have noticed the quality go way way down. I don't know if they changed food suppliers or everyone in the restaurant just stopped caring at once, but I will no longer be eating at Bite. First the service: Forget ordering at the counter if you go at lunch time... the lines move slow and the wait is atrocious - can't fault them for being busy, so I almost always order online. When you order online, it'll say, "your order will be ready in 15mins" or something to that effect. So I'll time my walk to arrive at Bite at the designated time and my order is almost never ready on time. It's not even close. I usually wait another 10-15 mins in the crowded back corridor because clearly everyone that orders in advance is given a bad time estimate as well. Next the food: The past few times I've ordered the Mediterranean salad, there has been a literal POOL of water at the bottom of the salad container. Not like, oh they didn't fully dry off the greens... but it's almost like someone thought it would be funny to pour 4-5oz of cloudy water in the bottom of the salad. The first time this occurred, I didn't notice until I got to the bottom and was disgusted. I know now to always check. No one wants salad soup. The final straw came today though when I ordered a simple turkey sandwich. I go to pick it up (of course it isn't ready, so I waited a few minutes) and immediately noticed the order was deceptively light in weight. I was busy at work, so I just went straight back to the office. I unwrapped the sandwich and realized why it was so light... there was a SINGLE PIECE OF TURKEY that was once folded over. My entire sandwich was a single piece of turkey, more greens (by weight) than meat and a couple frozen/slushy tomatoes. Completely inexcusable. And then I realized Bite has been trying to reach me on my phone. When I picked up, they told me that I had the wrong order (there were two with the same name) and asked if I was far. I told them I've arrived home already, not wanting to make the exchange - I would've been okay with just keeping what I grabbed. The guy asked for my exact address and said that they would deliver the correct item to my door. The order arrived within 5 minutes (and they included a little treat!) I've been to bite a few times. Everything I've tried has been really delicious and the prices are super reasonable for what you get. Service is always great too. It's an awesome neighborhood place to do some work or get lunch with a friend.
