I am just now getting into road cycling, and they had me ready to go with all the essentials in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately my Co2 inflator malfunctioned: I had a repaired tire but no air. A quick online search showed that Dream Cyclery was just a few blocks away. I knew as a reputable shop that they would have air available for those who need it in a pinch. And yes, as I arrived, there was the air hose as I had hoped. Noticing it was only Schraeder-ready I went into the shop to borrow an adapter and say thanks for the rescue. No thanks needed. Just 5 bucks. That's right, any cyclist with Presta valves must pay for the tiny brass adapter in order to use the "free air." The staffer seemed embarrassed to be charging me $5 for a piece that costs no more than a nickel. With the next nearest bike shop a significant walk away, I had no other choice. How chintzy is that! It wouldn't be so obnoxious if they were charging a dollar to cover the cost of providing them, or asking for a donation to a favourite charity (Cycle Toronto?) but this feels likes mean-spirited gouging. Looks like a nice shop. Sorry I will not be visiting again.

Next thing I know, I was charged $140 with the work already started without calling me. I had no choice but to accept it since they already started the work. I was told they would contact me when the bike is ready. Several days later, I called due to no contact. I was told the bike was already done and apologized for not contacting me. When I went to pick up the bike I noticed that gear shifter caps were not put back on (which I had removed and provided to them in a ziploc bag). When I asked about it, I was told they didn't have the right screw. The shifter was a standard Shimano shifter, not some exotic custom shifter. For a bike shop to say they don't stock screws for a common standard equipment is shocking and, frankly, unacceptable. I will not be using Cycle Solutions again. Good thing another shop opened up on Kingston Rd in the Upper Beaches. Cycle Solution is getting way too complacent.

I always get knowledgeable, honest advice from them. Sometimes that meant buying something that cost more, sometimes less, and sometimes they'd just send me away with plans that meant spending no money at all. They don't "sell"; They just want help you to love your bike and have a great ride. I can't say there are many shopping experiences I enjoy, but next week, we're scheduled to bring our bikes in for service and to get some new pannier racks and I'm actually looking forward it! I don't know how they work their easygoing biking-mojo on me... but I like it!

Despite being crystal clear that I wanted to ride upright. I could not easily reach the handlebars and was crunching forward awkwardly. I returned to the store many times for unsuccessful adjustments. Finally Batemans said nothing that could be done. I also had to return for other shoddy work: the basket was mounted so close to seat, it was not possible to sit on it; in one unsuccessful attempt to fix the main problem, the shifter was twisted so it could not be reached and the brakes were angled too far down to access; one of the tires kept going flat; the kick stand interfered with bike function etc. As a last resort, we went to Bloomfield Bicycle Company in Prince Edward County which had been very helpful with our old bikes. I learned that the medium bike frame sold to me by Bateman's is too large/long for my height. Bloomfield were able to replace the handlebars with ones I could reach sitting upright. They also said the grips were too long and large for my hands, and had been installed improperly. They replaced the plastic white clip ties holding the basket which they thought were dangerous and could snap with black metal clamps. It was very time consuming and costly to go to Prince Edward County since we had to stay overnight in and pay for accommodation. But I can now ride my bike comfortably. After my service today, I felt a Google review was warranted as my thanks to this amazing bike shop. I have to say that my experience has always been very consistent and the level of service always top-notch! After moving tot he Beaches a couple of years ago, I was looking for a new local bike shop. I found them online and I rifled through their Google reviews and after seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to try them out and I can honestly say, without any hesitation whatsoever, that this is definitely my go-to bike shop! The staff are not only extremely friendly but they speak in a language that you understand--if you're a little more technical, they can elaborate in jargon you're used to--if you're not so technical, they not only explain in a language that you'll understand but they make realistic recommendations and will not try to gouge with unnecessary parts or services and everything is very reasonably and competitively priced! I've been to other shops and before I knew it, I left the store with so many extra things that I realized I didn't really need. This doesn't happen here. I can't stop talking about how great Cycle Solutions is and the more I interact with their various staff, I am absolutely certain that they have the right business model that maintains a very loyal customer base and their consistent client-focused service will always impress, whether it's your very first time or your millionth time in their store. THANK YOU Cycle Solutions for helping my family keep our bikes more on the roads than in the shop!!!

I proceed to buy the pedals, fender, and rack from their limited selection. I paid for general maintenance and got them installed free. the fender was installed shoddily and rubbed. I had him fix it and it still rubbed again a few days later. Then my bike fell from a bike rack and a piece broke from the rack. I went in and he said "oh so it didn't just break, you dropped your bike. next time don't drop your bike. $5". Bikes fall and falling from a bike rack shouldn't cause a piece to break... I went into skiis and biikes and they completely realigned my fenders and it hasnt rubbed since. A few weeks later the piece they sold me for $5 broke again and the bike didn't even fall. I asked for a refund on the rack and they angrily gave me the $5 back for the part they charged me for. They said it's my fault for keeping a bike in a bike rack.

The service itself was quick (about an hour) during a weekday afternoon. Worker didn't take down any information when I left my bike, and I just claimed it from the pile when I returned. My left brake was upon first inspection was tight, but the right side wasn't considerably tighter than how it came in. Despite requesting they inspect the brakes for issues, I wasn't told anything about my bike's condition. The work cost me approximately $60. On the third day of use riding to work, one half of the front brake system fell off and was lost to traffic. On the ride home, somehow despite not using the front brakes anymore, the other half of the front brakes were lost as well. Other than not being the tightest I hadn't had any issues with my brakes prior to taking them in for service, and coincidentally only 3 uses after getting my brakes supposedly tightened and CHECKED do they happen to fall apart completely. I thought I was paying for experts who could ensure this type of situation doesn't happen specifically. In my mind, either the pads were old and needed replacing, which should have come up when I was PAYING to have them checked, or the brakes were fine otherwise and it's the job the shop did that caused their failure. Either way, I'm unhappy with the results. I contacted the shop via email to explain the situation to see if there was anything to be done. Their reply verbatim was "Tighten and check doesn't guarantee that 3 weeks later your heavy e bike brakes will be still good . You bring bike and get inspected and we tell you what to do and cost of fixing". After already having paid for them to "inspect" my brakes, and only having used it less than 3 times, they somehow thought I'd give them more money. They not only refused to take responsibility for the poor quality of work done on the bike, but they also acted condescendingly towards me, as if I was at fault they didn't put on the brakes correctly or adequately inspect the condition of the brake system when instructed. I was disappointed by their lack of accountability and poor customer service. I had no choice but to take my bike to a different bike shop to fix the issue. At Cycle Solutions on Parliament, not only were the missing brake pads replaced, but they were also properly tightened (both sides!) all for a much cheaper price. Other than not telling me when I made the appointment I couldn't leave my bike battery in the shop (needing me to return home to get the key to remove it), The staff at this new bike shop was friendly and knowledgeable and even took down my information when I left my bike as if they were a legitimate business unlike some competitors. In comparison, Cyclemania's staff seemed careless about the safety of their customers. The experience really made me question the quality of the work they do. It was quite clear that they place profit over customer safety. I would strongly caution anyone against doing any business with them as they clearly are unable to provide the quality service that is required in the cycling industry.
