I live nearby and only became aware of this bike shop recently when I accidentally blew my tire right before heading out for a ride. I brought my wheel in to get the inner tube replaced. There were two young guys working in the shop. Both said hello and asked if I needed help. I explained what I had done and he gave me two options; buy an inner tube and replace myself, or leave it with them for an hour and they could replace it for me. I opted to leave it. In the end, it ended up taking longer than expected- but for $28 - it was worth it. read more

I took my bike in about 5:45 today because the chain fell off and I could not get it back on (it's a pedal assist bike and there is a cover). I live in the East end and use this bike to commute - it was a simple fix but I did not have the tool to do it. The tall guy said I would have to leave it over night because they were closing and could not do it. I expect they also would have charged me for it. Not cool. I left thinking I would have to walk home (about 2 hours) but passed another bike shop called Emmo bikes and they happily did it in 5 minutes and charged me nothing. I will not go back to Ya Bikes - they clearly have no interest in customer service or they would have taken 5 minutes to help me out. Would not recommend this place. read more

Small bike shop on the east end with fantastic service at reasonable rates. Bought a used bike that needed some tuning up and the shop goes the extra little bit to make sure your pair of wheels is in shape. General tune ups are $70. The staff is really easy going and is open for quick fixes walk in. Booking ahead for bigger jobs is simple to do too. The quality of the service is great and on time. The shop is stocked with parts and generally meets most repair needs or quick purchases. read more

I took my bike in to ask for a tune up, advertised as $65, and I scheduled an appointment with them because they go by appointment. When I entered the shop, it took a while for the two men working there to acknowledge me. The tall one asked what I wanted, and I said I had an appointment for a bike tune up. He looked me up in his system and then looked at my bike, basically insinuating that nothing needed to be done with it, rambling on about various bike parts. I had no clue what he was talking about. Then he finally took my bike to the back. I was confused about what he was going to do with it. Then he said it would be "done today or tomorrow." When I asked for a specific time to pick it up, he snapped at me and said "Like today or tomorrow. I have other bike tune ups." I had to really try to get a clear answer about when I could come get my bike. He finally said he would call. Him and his male coworker both gave me a dirty look when I left the shop. When I picked it up later that day, it ended up costing ~$165 because of all of these replacements he'd decided to make. I saw him being very congenial with an older male customer, who clearly was getting some kind of other treatment compared to me. The whole experience felt deceptive and sexist. I was very nervous to have left my bike with him. He also did something weird to my brakes. Will never be returning. Shocked that this place has any positive reviews. read more

This bike shop brings a entirely new dimension to the notion of the disaffected hipster employee/store owner. These self-defined masters of cool (read rude) are quick to sell you a used bike in just okay condition. G*d forbid you want repairs at near psychotic rates or ask for assistance with a trailer hitch, etc. You'd think you were asking for an exorcism. Kinda feels like asking your chronically-stoned neighbour to fix your bike and they say they might be able to, never really give you a straight answer or firm quote...& that's why we go to a bike shop for these things. Conversely, I received downright regal customer service mere hours later @ the Bike Works @ Evergreen/Brick Works. Ya Bikes is Ya Shit - & not in the urban positive sense ;-) read more

I'm very frustrated with the service I received from Ya Bikes, I took my bike in to change the tube on my tires. My bike was in excellent condition. I came back after a few hours and I saw that the wheels were wiggling because I made sure to inspect it before leaving (btw other minor stuff was missing/not done). I pointed out the wiggling tires to the guy and he said that he didn't do any truing. So I explained that my bike wheels weren't wiggling at all so why should I get them back in a condition where the wheels are now wiggling? It doesn't make sense. It's not the first time I had my bike done elsewhere and I've not come across an experience like this. read more

Amazing place, replaced my tube and did all the work for such a great price! I also got them to secure my seat to the bike, as it was a quick release. They did this for free and only charged me a couple dollars for the bolt. Awesome staff as well, very knowledgeable and friendly. The shop also had a very relaxed, locally owned vibe that I loved. 10-6 every day, friendly staff, and fair prices. Ya bikes at queen and Sherbourne really impressed me. I ran into another biker who stopped in the middle of the bike lane and messed up my bike. I had to replace my back tire, have new brakes and wires put in, have the handle bars replaced, and have a general tune up. Ya bikes' staff were great, they gave me a quote on site, answered all my questions, and let me know it'd be done on Monday (brought her in on a Tuesday). When I called back with follow up questions, they were so polite and patient. I had a lot of questions, I've never taken my bike in for repairs before. They fixed everything that needed to be fixed for a little under $200. AND they were done on Friday! Days before they quoted me. I was so happy to get my bike back. Thank you, Ya bikes! read more

I visited this store to get a new gear shifter I ordered online installed on my bike (since they didn't carry that part) and to get a general tuned up. When I went back to pick up my bike I realized they had cut the gear cable during the installation (and reattached it with a weird concoction) because they didn't know how to install that specific model properly. I then had to bring my bike back there on four separate occasions because the back wheel kept coming loose (because they hadn't put it back in properly when they took it off to install the gear shifter). I'll be staying away and would recommend you do too. It's a shame because the staff was quite friendly. read more

I had a very different experience from most of the reviewers. I brought my bike in (a low- to mid-range Jamis, which is a US commuter and mountain bike brand) in July for a general tune-up and to have the fenders replaced after they were damaged during moving. Ya Bikes took six weeks to return my bike to me. I had to phone them every time I wanted an update, despite leaving them two phone numbers. They never left a voicemail with an update. When they did, eventually, return my bike, they blamed the delay on needing to order a brakepad for a "department store bike." In addition, Ya Bikes replaced my fenders with fenders that were a completely different color (a cosmetic choice, sure, but one I was never offered any input on). Their disregard for my time and snobbery about my bike was galling. Frankly, someone who comes in with a disintegrating Huffy should receive the same consideration as someone on a custom carbon-frame roadbike. Two stars, because at least my bike is functional now. read more

I got a flat tire while riding last Saturday; we walked our bikes to Charlie's and they were able to replace the tube and off I went. Unfortunately, the same tire went flat the next day - suggesting that while the tube was replaced, the issue was not fixed. I walked back today with my flat in hand. Because it couldn't be determined if there was glass in my tire and whether or not the flat was due to a bad tube, they warranteed my tube and I bought a new tire for a very reasonable price - and I am now confident that when I next ride, I will not run into a flat tire again - or at least not for the same issue. I brought my bike into this shop somewhat skeptical. Jamis X2 Mountain Bike. The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain exactly what work needed to be performed and why. The "why" was very important because I had two quotes from other shops that could not perform the work for at least a week. The mechanic actually rode the bike in front of me and pointed out exactly what the problem was by reproducing the issue. Not only was their diagnosis correct, their price was substantially lower, the parts were quality named brands, Shimano in the original package. The quote was more accurate and the work was performed quickly and professionally. I would strongly recommend this bike shop. Don't be fooled by the location, they do great work. read more

Absolutely awful I took my bmx here to have them replace the chain and replace a couple brake parts When I got the bike back they had oiled the chain instead of replacing it ( multiple chain links were broken) and the brakes were so loose that I can now pull the levers all the way in and the wheels still turn the only reason to go by this shop is to get air in your tires as anything beyond that seems to confuse the poor simple minded folk that work here $40 to put oil on a very broken chain and make my brakes still not work? ha no thanks unless you're selling your bike right afterwards you'd be better off not getting it serviced at all than going here read more

Everyone who works here is really nice and chill. What I most appreciated is that they don't try to bs you- they're just straight up about everything. I got my bike tuned up a year ago, and then they fixed a flat today. Everyone who works here is super nice. They are fast and professional and their prices are the most reasonable I've come across in downtown TO. If the problem is simple, they'll fix it for next to nothing which is great for someone like me who doesn't know a whole lot about bikes. I've been to other places that try to convince you the problem is more complicated than you think and then they can charge you whatever they want. I've been to Charlie's about five times now and nothing even close to that has ever happened. I left there after a quick tune-up this Saturday and I felt like I was riding on a cloud. That's how smooth my bike is now. I went in there with what felt like a squeaky 500lb clunker of a bike and walked out with a cloud. They're that good. read more

Great shop! I took my little vintage in as the back tire had rotted and the tube had wrapped itself around my wheel. It was a mess, but Charlie's replaced everything in about 20 minutes. I went and grabbed a coffee and he phoned me during the service to let me know the tire needed to be replaced. He quoted me a price and asked me first before going ahead with repair. If there were negative stars I would have selected that. It's unfortunate that this place is so terrible. The staff is not very friendly, to say the least, and they have a non-existent system for managing orders - they use scrap pieces of paper. Cause those won't get lost. Sadly, these are actually the highlights of this place. I took my vintage bike in with a bent wheel frame. They somehow ended up NOT fixing it and only putting air in the front tire - and charged me for this. Then when they finally DID fix the wheel they again messed it up. This mess up could have cost me my life - no jokes. My bike is single, fixed gear. Meaning I need to reverse the peddles in order to use the brakes. When they replaced my tire they failed to ensure the chain was secure. As I was riding my bike, on the road, the chain fell off. What that means is - I HAD NO BRAKES. I had to use my feet, like Freddy Flinstone, to avoid riding through a red light. Luckily I wasn't on a hill. When I went back the guy figured the axle itself was warped (ya, thanks for checking this the first time). So then they ordered the part - but then they never called for me to get it. Not that I felt they could handle this - they seem incapable of even the basic tasks. So, if you take your bike here it is do so at your own risk. read more

I came in to fix a very minor repair with my bike. Not only was I helped to fix the small part in my break but they helped to realign my wheel and to readjust my brake lines, all free of charge!
