When I went it was after work and I was on the hungry side. I park the rental and go inside. First thing I notice was how clean the place was. Spotless. I get a side of baked beans. She takes the order and I grab a seat. It's not long and my order is ready. I took it for takeout and went back to the hotel. The sandwich didn't taste right. I am good with the coleslaw on the sandwich but the meat had an off taste to it. The baked beans could have been better...they had a funk to them that couldn't be ignored. So, the advice from my coworkers was right. My next visit to Jacksonville will include a different BBQ restaurant.

5 Stars - Amazing Southern Breakfast Done Right! I stopped by Biscuitville in Jacksonville, NC and was seriously impressed! I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Egg & Cheese Biscuit with a side of fries, and it hit the spot. The biscuit was buttery, fluffy, and perfectly fresh--exactly what you'd hope for from a place that prides itself on made-from-scratch goodness. The Nashville Hot Chicken had the perfect kick of heat, balanced by the creamy egg and melted cheese. And the fries? Crispy, golden, and seasoned just right. The staff was friendly and fast, even during a busy rush. This is my new go-to breakfast spot when I'm in town! Highly recommend. read more

I kept thinking it was an anomaly but after the 3rd visit, that was it for me. After our move to NC I figured that I would give them another shot. And while some of the food was good, the service was not. 2 servers came to take our drink order and then the server who returned to take our breakfast order was at the wrong table, so we had to wait for them to figure out who was to ne taking care of us. I need to start out by saying they were not busy as we were there on a Monday at 1030, so between 2 meal times. I reqiested that the server put us in a quiet spot, away from others as I had a migraine. Initially she did but then 10 minutes after our being seated, she sits a family with children, toddlers, behind me. Directly behind me. The restaurant was not the least bit busy that the same hostess I asked to sit us away from everyone else wouldn't have remembered my request to he away from others. I ordered the baked French toast with strawberries, sausage patties and a side of hashbrown casserole. My breakfast arrived with bacon, which I gave to my husband. The casserole was lukewarm & when our server returned with my sausage patties, Initially I thought they looked good but I was in for a let down because they were barely warm and burnt on the bottom (both patties were so burnt that my fork couldn't even go through the patty to separate and eat). At that point, I just gave up on the sausage. I will say the French toast was good but not good enough to forgive the other misses. So, it would seem CB goes back on the list of places to avoid.

Another example of a review I've written before but mysteriously yelp has deleted it for some…read morereason. So I'll keep it short (for me). We did not realize this is a chain which isn't a problem in and of itself however, it's rare that chain breakfast restaurants are worth our money or time. In this case we felt they missed on every possible opportunity. Service was sketchy, we had to ask them to take our order, remind them four times for an item they kept forgetting to bring out, they burned one item, served it anyway and the waitress apologized. When she should have simply not served it at all. If I was the manager I would have been ashamed of what came out but if our orders were typical they may simply be used to being mediocre. We were in mid week and there were not a lot of customers. So we were surprised that they had run out of several things on the menu. That's simply bad management, they could have gone next door to the grocery store and bought the missing items. I had a sandwich which was just ordinary bread with almost no meat, and two small pieces of wilted leafy greens that did not even cover 1/4 of the sandwich. And this was the special. It was dry, over priced, and there was nothing on it, I mean nothing but a single bite of meat. Then getting some things wrong that a breakfast joint should do really well left us both thinking we won't come back. For example the scrambled eggs were terrible, how does a restaurant good up scrambled eggs? Literally anywhere does a better job. This is basically a Denny's with a smaller menu and lower quality. Skip this place and find an ihop or Metro diner with both just a little down the street.

Southern Harvest Soul Food - 3 out of 5 stars…read more I hate to be the guy who leaves bad reviews, especially after giving a place multiple chances, but this was unfortunately the last straw for me. I drove nearly an hour to get to this restaurant, excited to try the oxtails. Upon arrival, I was told they were no longer being served because they were out. This marks the third time I've driven there specifically for oxtails and was unable to get them due to being out of stock. This wasn't late in the afternoon either--I arrived right at lunch opening. I know what some of you are thinking: why not call ahead? You're absolutely right. That mistake is on me, and I've definitely learned that lesson. On a previous visit, I tried the shrimp and grits, and I'll give credit where it's due--they were actually phenomenal and easily the best thing I've had there. Unfortunately, my other experiences haven't matched that quality. The last time I visited, I settled for the brisket burrito. While sweet and savory can work together, this one was overwhelmingly sweet and just didn't hit the mark. I also asked for a Diet Coke and was told they only had Sprite, regular Coke, and water, which was surprising. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, which had almost no flavor. For a southern soul food restaurant, that was pretty disappointing. I don't plan on coming back. I'm not mad--just disappointed. I hope this review helps others avoid making a long drive expecting a specific dish only to find out it's unavailable.

Guthrie's has been around for 60 years with their roots in Alabama. The inside is clean and nice looking honestly. The employees seemed nice. The young lady took our order at the register. We ordered the sandwich combo and the Big G combo. After receiving our drinks and paying we had a little bit of a wait. Not a big deal. Once we received our meals in containers and opened them at our booth, everything seemed fine. The sandwich does get served on a typical store bought bun. Wife did not like the bun. Her and I agreed the chicken was good. Three strips were on her sandwich. My Big G order comes with 6 chicken strips. We liked the golden crinkle fries. They were cooked perfect. Taste was good. Half of my strips were more like nuggets, but the flavor and texture were good. The bread that came with my combo was lightly toasted and tasted good as well. Overall we enjoyed dining here. We would probably return if we were really hungry and needed comfort food. Not our first choice. In the flooded market of chicken strips, this place is on the better end of the spectrum.
