I have been travelling to Jacksonville NC for a while and see Smithfield's (what seems like) everywhere. I go past and think....BBQ sounds good. When I went it was after work and I was on the hungry side. I park the rental and go inside. First thing I notice was how clean the place was. Spotless. A dude was cleaning the tables, another person was cleaning the windows. Spotless. The menu is straight forward. You can smell the chicken and pork cooking. I decide on the Bar B-Q sandwich. I get a side of baked beans. She takes the order and I grab a seat. It's not long and my order is ready. I took it for takeout and went back to the hotel. The sandwich didn't taste right. I am good with the coleslaw on the sandwich but the meat had an off taste to it. The baked beans could have been better...they had a funk to them that couldn't be ignored. So, the advice from my coworkers was right. My next visit to Jacksonville will include a different BBQ restaurant. read more

I had a very large order to pick up for a party at 6pm on Friday night. When I arrived they were very busy. The manager on duty I believe his last name was Nichols promptly greeted me and said he was getting my order ready. Once the order was ready he took it out to my vehicle for me and showed me that everything was there without me even asking. He made sure we were all set up with plates, forks, serving tools, and everything! By far the best experience I've had at a restaurant when ordering such a large order. Talk about world class customer service! There is a young lady--a standout, whose name is Allie, who could teach a class to the staff at many area restaurants on topnotch customer service! We come to this restaurant frequently (weekly) mainly because of her professional attitude and sweet disposition! Had a coupon to buy one get one so I decided to stop by before it expired. They have moved from the old building next door to a very nice building. Staff was friendly and helpful. I haven't had Smithfield's for a while and couldn't make up my mind. I got the chicken dinner, one dark, one white with two sides. I decided to grab a banana pudding which was just okay. The chicken was very good and I enjoyed the coleslaw and baked beans. The hushpuppies were good too. I was most impressed with the counter staff and the manager on duty made me feel welcomed. We've been to Smithfield barbecue many times this is the first time ever that the baked beans were not good at all maybe a 5 out if a 10. And usually when Joseph's there it's better, the rest of our meal was good. The young lady who waited on us couldn't get our order correct she overcharged us when we had a dining card she corrected her mistake but was totally frazzled, and had to give us another drink when we had originally ordered it and she acted short tempered and then when I happened to block the entryway to the kitchen to get a refill she had lost her temper and was rude and raised her voice loud enough for people at the back of the restaurant to hear her and I had one person say " she wasn't very nice talking to you like that "! I don't know your employees name but she had blondish hair and she was about 20-25 years old and my ticket number was 268 and we were there at 5:30 pm and we dined in. read more

Ordered a bbq sandwich with 2 sides, chicken tender combo with bbq and extra side. Everything was absolutely inedible. The bbq on the sandwich and on my platter was so dry and tough --like it was the bottom of the leftovers. The chicken "tenders" were so tough and chewy, couldn't eat them. The potato salad for both orders was runny and terrible. What happened to Smithfield's? Used to be good! I spent $33 on this order that went into the trash. They have lost my business for sure. I grew up eating here and was excited to try the new location. The food didn't disappoint but the portion size (for the sides) seems to be a bit smaller than I remember. One of the managers, Omar, was so nice friendly. He handled the evening rush so well! Chicken tasted hot, fresh and the potato salad was creamy and flavorful. I also love the baked bean recipe. Hush puppies were piping hot. The inside of the new restaurant is nice and clean with beautiful lighting. I'll be back. read more

Service is generally good. Prices ok. However the Chicken has been very dry lately and all crust. One tiny piece of breast in a huge chunk of crust. The BBQ is fine. If you expect much white meat on the white meat chicken dinner don't be surprised at what you end up with. Also the garbage can was overun with garbage by the sink near the exit and the manager just kept walking by it and ignored it completely. read more

Ok so I wanted to try out the new building since there placed one right next to my old location that I would stop at for food. I loved the new look. The associaties where nice and the gentleman that was running the kitchen by himself mind you was kicking out the orders. He had his hands full but boy you can see the Hussle. He didn't seem stressed. The lady working the counter was kinda quite so I had to have her speak up. But the white chicken plate was cooked perfectly. No complaints coming from me. (Even thou they'll tell you differently) The BBQ plate I received LITERALLY appeared to have been eaten and PASSED ALREADY! BARBECUE ISN'T MUSTARD! PERIOD! BARBECUE IS NOT YELLOWISH! Recently visit new building.. been open 3 weeks. Food and service no problem. What I don't get is the design of the parking and entrance to building. While I was eating I noticed several seniors and others with disabilities trying to make entrance to building. Most of the parking is in the back of the building... which the drive thru is an obstacle to get past to enter building. Be safe entering the building everyone. Let me start off by saying that the bathroom smelled like dead fish. I ordered the chicken tender combo platter with baked beans and Brunswick stew, my girlfriend ordered the pork sandwich. We waited a good 25 minutes for our dine in order. The cashier gave me attitude when I had to ask for another bun because my girlfriend's sandwich was falling apart soggy. Went back to Smithfield's recently to give it another try. Got the chicken and barbeque plate. It was good. The new people that were cashiers were doing a good job. The chicken was good and the hushpuppies were hot. The fries were ok but I didn't eat them because they were not warm. The food was good but the barbeque is normally much fresher that it was the day I went. I threw my bbq in the trash can because it looked like it was in the bottom of the thing. Am thankful the chicken and the hushpuppies were good though. It's just not as good as it used to be to be honestly. Hopefully I can just go to the one in Wilmington when I visit my parents because that one is much much better. The one in Morehead City is better too. I wish this one on Gumbranch had stayed the same as it was in the old building. I had many good experiences there. They were always friendly at that old one and filled up your tea while you were eating and everything. Now all the prices are higher and the food portions are smaller and it just isn't the same at all. The food has gone downhill. It's okay though we can surely find another place that has good food. not what it used to be since corporate took over. ordered through the drive through. we ordered a chicken snack and a chicken meal. also ordered a gallon of tea. they asked if we wanted cups of ice, we said sure. well it would have been proper customer service to let us know they were going to charge us for something they offered. I would have declined. and do you think with the gallon of tea and the two cups of ice, they give us straws? nope! My younger brother suggested this place. Visiting from Atlanta. I order the tender snack which came with 3 tenders and a side. The chicken tenders were lightly breaded and super tender. I didn't too much care for the BBQ bake beans they weren't sweet enough and I'm very picky about my BBQ I don't like that tang.
