Not good. Have given it several tries this year, and it just gets worse. The chicken breast was all breading crust, and the little piece of chicken breast on the inside of that was so dry it was inedible. I literally had to lay out 6 paper napkins, tear off all the poofed up breader crust, wrap it all up and throw it in the trash (two hands completely full) just to see what else was on the plate. a piece of chicken breast no bigger than 1.5" x 1.5" piece completely dried out, There was no meat at all in the wing. I was never a fan of Smithfield growing up. I think I got food poisoning there once, but I was so young and my mother made a point of not going there anymore. Memory is fuzzy. I've lived in North Carolina for over three years now and can finally say I'm a fan of Smithfield's chicken. Always fresh and always friendly. The staff knows the menu well and will let you know if you can save money or get more chicken. They never let me down. Their bbq is okay, but I'm more into the c.h.i.c.k.e.n. I do prefer the vinegar-based bbq they offer, so it's definitely good, but back to the chicken. My go-tos are usually chicken tenders or white meat. I like chicken breasts, wings, and legs which they fry up perfectly. The thighs are okay, but I'm just not a fan sometimes. You're waiting for the reason I'm giving them four stars, right? So... I don't like chicken tenders. The tenderloin of the chicken. The part attached to the breast that usually has a membrane protecting it? Hate it. I'll eat everything around it and give the rest to some street cats. BUT I CAN EAT THESE TENDERS! And they always come out piping hot and juicy! Ugh! Think I'll go get some right now. read more

I was at the Smithfields on Yopp Rd for lunch today. I frequent this location every Sunday and it is always a great experience. Today was an amazing experience. I saw some new faces and though they were training they took my order with a smile and took the time to make sure they got my order correct. I asked to speak to a manager to tell him about this experience. His name was fro. He made sure our order was to our liking and he was so polite and really made sure his employees were taking care of us. We never had to leave our seat for anything. I had been not feeling well and finally when my appetite returned I was craving a Smithfield combo plate. I was so disappointed. The chicken was more coating then chicken, which was dry even with Texas Pete on it. The potato salad didn't have any flavor/seasoning. Coleslaw was also flavorless and watery. Hush puppies were so greasy I ended up "peeling" them to eat the inside at least. The BBQ was good but the portion was 1/2 size it should have been. My family and I have been very impressed with this location. The fried chicken is amazing, not a huge fan of Carolina BBQ with the vinegar and all, but the fried chicken is great. Got my order in the drive through, bbq sandwich with no slaw and fries, nice and easy. Went across the street to Walmart and started eating my fries, they were so soaked in oil The ketchup wouldn't stay on them. Ok I'll take that as a sign I don't need the huge bag that they gave me, on to the sandwich! We ordered and were pleased with quick service, good looking pork BBQ sandwiches with slaw and a generous serving of hushpuppies! Not disappointed- delicious!!! Iced tea kept coming, servers bussed table as needed and even brought a sample of their Brunswick Stew when we asked about it!
