ok, fries and wings. But I'll stop there. We did not like the dry rub ribs, the sauces were not very good, and the soft drinks were all flat and seemed to have dialed back the syrup. The staff was ok once you ordered but the woman working the counter had no patience and pushed people through, not letting them consider the menu or add things on, she would not explain things such as what was in the daily special, she just rolled her eyes and glanced at the sign that said try the daily special (which had a name but not what it was). I imagine everyone else would spend more if she was not hustling people to be fast and not letting them ask questions or consider add-ons. You can go back to the line and order more if you need it but I looked at the line and considered the hostess and decided it wasn't worth the bother. I doubt we will go back. read more

My sister recently won a basket that included a gift card so we stopped in for lunch. Despite being busy (it was two days after Christmas) the service was quick and friendly. We stopped in as first timers while visiting our grandson who is at Camp Lejune. They recognized it was our first visit and went out of their way to explain the menu and options. I decided to stop in for lunch today as I was craving a good brisket and there's no better local place and come in here. The staff is always friendly they're on top of things the place is clean the tables were organized. My lunch came out fast it was hot the baked beans with the bacon off that was delicious the cornbread was perfectly cooked. They only downside was the samples of various style barbecue sauces on the tables there was one missing from every single table and it happened to be the one that I wanted. I didn't know this restaurant was chain, but it's good to know that other locations are within driving distance of New Hampshire! I wanted to take the kid out for dinner as a bit of a birthday treat. His birthday was three days before I arrived to help him move from North Carolina to New England. That's right! His military service went by fast! He is now a veteran. Wow, that makes a mother feel old. So, we ended up at Mission BBQ because we he had been driving me around showing me the base and the beach and such. How can people stand the humidity in the south? I would die! Our host, Elayna, offered me a cold beer. Yes, please! The kid got a 2-meat sampler with the brisket and chicken, XXL with cold slaw and mac n cheese. It looked tasty. I wouldn't know because he inhaled it. I got the traditional NC pulled pork sandwich with fries. The pulled pork sandwich was loaded with delicious succulent meat. We had a lot of fun trying all the different BBQ sauces on offer. Our favorite was the Memphis, but a wide margin. My fries were also tasty. I like the funky military atmosphere of the place. I am very proud of the kid for spending 4 years serving his country. A five-star hat tip to these folks for showing proper respect to pork barbecue - especially since their 'cue is offered up with a true eastern North Carolina vinegar & pepper sauce. Our $6.99 pulled-pork sandwiches were moist, smoky and flavorful. The meat was mounded atop an almost perfect white bun, then topped with a thickly shredded coleslaw that was neither watery or overpowering. The sandwich was about as close to perfection as you'll find this side of Greenville. The brisket sandwich ($8.49) featured three thick, succulent slices of tender beef, oozing juices and sporting a perfectly charred exterior that left me wondering why they don't serve buckets of burnt ends as an entree. The meat was wickedly flavorful - and despite the temptation of having eight different flavors of barbecue sauce at the ready, the meat needed nothing to enhance it's flavor. The Mac & Cheese makes a nice side dish, but it was the seasonal Kickin' Collard Greens that stole the show. These were the collards my Momma thought she was cooking every Sunday - tender, with a dash of vinegary spice that sent me to the counter for a to-go order. Just came back from Mission BBQ. This was some good food. The service was friendly and since it was our first time there they explained everything to us and didn't seem bothered by it. The atmosphere was great! My husband is a veteran and a retired first responder and he loved all of the badges on the walls and will be sending one to the restaurant once we are back home in California. John was so friendly and spoke with us. My daughter is a first responder in Kinston and he said send her in we would love to meet her. Such a nice place to visit. I see the other post saying the food was pricey, well you get what you pay for and the food and the service were well worth the price. Thanks again Mission BBQ for a great dinner. It's very casual, supports troops/first responders, and it's a nice all American restaurant! Staff is friendly, they have six different BBQ sauces which is fun to try. The sweet tea is very sweet, but the again I am from Cali. (What do I know about sweet tea) the only thing that held me back from the 5th star is the brisket I wish it wasn't so dry.
