Mi Cabana has really 'upped their game'! I really like what Mi Cabana has done to create ambiance. I love the greenery and soft purple winking led lights through the center area. The wicker light shades on the drop lamps are very attractive and add to the overall feeling of cozy and gentle festiveness--love it! Our waiter, Esteven, was amazing!! He was attentive and very observant picking up on my penchant for spicy. My entree came out and he didn't think the preparers put the slightly spicy salsa on it--gathering that I like spicy, so he went back and asked if they put it on my entree. He was an awesome waiter ... for more than just that! I love the menu changes (at least for Fajitas, my favorite) since the last time we were there (a couple years, we've had to do take out for awhile ...long while). They added some spicy fajitas, so I had the 'Fajita Diabla.' The sauce (Esteven called 'salsa') was so flavorful and had a little kick which was delightful. We stuffed ourselves and even after a humongous Negro Modelo each, when we got home and I was putting leftovers away I couldn't help but eat some more of the Fajita Diabla--I was so full but it was so delicious!!! (I had also added a bit of their very hot 'sauce' to it...perfection!) I also really like the change in the 'choriqueso' appetizer. Smaller portion which rankled us at first, but the original one was huge/cost almost the same as a small entree, but now it comes out smaller but more attractive and they added a small portion of pickled sliced jalapeños and a small portion of the best Pico de Gallo I ever tried--the portions actually turned out perfect. I loved that there was a lot of small chopped fresh jalapeños in the Pico de Gallo and that the onions were wilted (love jalapeños, but fresh onions burn my stomach, go figure?!). I found this just ok. The meat in my steak tacos was ok, but it was a dry and plain taco with just average taste and quality. The Spanish rice was dry and tasteless. The chips were store bought and not fresh. The salsa tasted tinny and metallic, like it was made from tomato sauce from a can and not a very good brand. Second visit and this time I can remember the names. I had the "El Marine" which is maybe a bit more Peruvian. I had Octopus and shrimp with rice and large amounts of delicious cilantro. It was outstanding. My wife had the chimichangas and they were great and my daughter and son in law both had fajitas. Everything was great. Server was outstanding and she was supper fun. Decor is typical bright and colorful Central American. Not loud which was the reason we first came here and the food is delicious. read more

Oh my it's been a while since I've been here and let's just say I'm not pleased at all. Firstly, our waitress was not friendly at all. I get we have bad days and all, however when at work try to be pleasant as possible. Moving forward our drinks was not up to par and didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it. Our food was mediocre. It was a tad better back in the day. We've been overseas and not in this area for years and coming back to eat here was just okay. Love the atmosphere of this place! The vibes are great and the music that plays in the background makes it feel just like Mexico. It was very busy and yet our waitress made sure to repeatedly check on us for refills and more. Our food was delicious and greatly satisfied our craving. Place is clean, no smell of the mexican kitchen meaning you wont smell any citrus and onions or salsa in the place. wasnt able to check the toilets so hopefully they clean il give this 3/5 Food wise I ordered steak and shrimp is mehh~ Steak is on par with regular american steaks(this is a compliment coz american steaks are fine) the shrimp is not frozen but u know its not super fresh, it good coz it was bbq first before joining in the plate with the sauce on top. you can taste the charcoaly bbq smoke taste. I never really liked mexican rice but this one was okay~ it not super washed like the usual authentic mexican rice id give the food like 2.5/5 at best. California burrito - missing frenchfries inside it, no salsa, no sour cream, no cilantro, no citrusy smell or taste. so its a 1/5. pros, is its big but not properly wrapped to be called burrito. chef watered down the mexican taste to probably cater the local's tastebuds and wish put more love on the food, the food is not too welcomy homey feels(i dunno if u guys understand this) service - pleasant and okay not overly welcoming or friendly. no checking up for refills and whatnot but it fine. service be at 2/5 overall 2/5, recommendation? meh~ not so. will go back again? no i dont think so. for trial? yes, try other stuff in their menu maybe its better than we ordered. read more

My go to for a fairly priced Mexican meal . Will hardly recommend ! Went today a d it was so tasty

This was my first time here and the wife convinced me to go. Upon walking in, we were greeted nicely and seated quickly. The restaurant appeared clean and the staff professional. The restrooms were clean also which is always a great thing to see. Our waitress was young and polite. She took our orders quickly but was slow with service. We had 7 people with us so the food orders were all over the place. Ill get to the food in a second. I ordered a mango margarita, (a large one, which was very large and worth the money), and the waitress informed me that it would be a second because she had to make it being there were no bartenders. I was skeptical, but let her go at it. I must say, to not have bartending experience, she made a great one. Everyone agreed that the food was excellent and prepared how we wanted it. The down fall for us was having to ask for refills over and over and the kitchen forgot to fix my kid a hamburger. So as we waited for his food, ours got a bit chilly as we didn't want to eat and be done when his got there. It did take a bit. Upon asking for ketchup for his burger and fries, that also had to be asked a few times. No big deal for us as we understand the world today. One other thing that I didn't really enjoy was once i was handed the check to pay, the server stood there until I gave her my card. Needless to say, I will be back again sooner or later to see if things might be better on another day. I never judge to hard on the first visit. I only give three stars due to the lack of service at times. I will recommend if you go, that you try the house hot sauce. I must say, it's HOT and good. read more

Popped in for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised - much better than our last visit! I ordered the Choice of Two Combination with a chicken tamal and chile relleno, served with rice and re-fried beans. The tamal was tender and packed with nice chunks of chicken and the relleno was perfectly spicy. The rice was rather bland and dry, but easily saved with a good soaking of their salsa. This is the best Mexican food in Jacksonville. I've been eating here for years, and now have to stop by ever time I'm back home. The ingredients always taste so fresh and the service is wonderful. I love the Yolanda, El Altimira, Pollo a la crema, and the pollo alambre. I never had salsa picosa that tastes as good as theirs ...and I've visited areas that should've had top notch Mexican cuisine. Ask for their salsa picosa and mix it with the regular salsa, and you've got the perfect heat to dip their fresh chips in. Trust me, stop by this place - you won't regret it. read more

Probably one of the worst places to eat Mexican in Jacksonville. Had horrible almost inedible food and they weren't even busy.

What a disaster. They got most of the order wrong, and ended up having to refund us for it because it was so messed up. But the worst thing of all is that the rice in the vegetarian menu is cooked in chicken broth!!! Last thing I heard, chicken was an animal not a vegetable. Disgusted that they advertise a vegetarian menu with chicken soaked rice. Thank god we asked first!!! (Of course they screwed up and gave us the gross chicken rice anyway). We didn't feel like cooking tonight so we ordered delivery from here! It got here at a reasonable time! I love how they give chips and salsa with the entrees. It's a nice touch because that is one of my favorite part of mexican restaurants. I got the burrito with pork and cheese sauce. It was filled with pork but was lacking other ingredients within the burrito. Once I got the topping included in my bite, it was good. But there wasn't enough toppings for the whole burrito. My husband got the egg and chorizo burrito with rice. He said there wasn't much egg and mostly chorizo. I feel like they need to work on ratios of meat vs other burrito fillings! I enjoy finding and trying authentic mexican restaurants and this is by far my favorite in Jacksonville, NC. The service was fast and the food was insanely good! I love having my own jar to pour salsa into my own little bowl. The chips tasted just a tad stale but nothing a little salt and salsa can't fix. I ordered the Monterrey burrito and replaced the chorizo with grilled chicken. The original price was 10.95 and after substituting chicken, the price went up to $14.25 which I thought was a bit much. Luckily, my burrito was HUGE, and so good! It was also filled with tiny potatoes and black beans, topped with queso, pico de gallo, and a sour cream drizzle with a side of mexican rice. We always come here at least twice a month. I love the music they play very upbeat Latin/reggaeton and Latin pop. The food is great. Love their salsa with chips, and if you want it spicier you can always ask them for their hotter salsa. Their drinks are so good. We order micheladas and they are always on point. We have always loved Mi Cabana on Western Blvd until tonight when we got a to go order. We like to order 3 combination dinners for 3 people. My favorite thing there is Quesidillas. The boys also like these. We ordered our order and the young mexican girl at the register told the young man to charge us extra for having BEEF in our Quesidillas. When he told us our total it was $25 dollars more than we ordinarilly pay for our dinner. We were both VERY UPSET. We have eaten here for more than ten years now and realized we need to try some other mexican restaurants in town now. El Cerro includes the Quesidillas with beef in the combination plates for no up charge. I told my husband we may have to stop eating here because of this change. I just wanted to give my feedback before other regulars of ten years get charged $70 dollars for 3 combination dinners. That is ridiculous and it does not make sense at all. The Quesidillas I used to get here did not contain alot of beef. The enchilladas have the most beef in them. I am angry because I had to order something I don't even like enchilladas and could not get what I really enjoy. It's not fair at all. They have no issue taking your money but when there's a problem that's their fault, they can't take accountability. I ordered from them on DoorDash and they said someone came in from DoorDash apparently saying they were a DoorDash rep (the lady on the phone told me herself that she never confirmed the person was from DoorDash and that he was apparently 17 years old- DoorDash doesn't have 17 year olds!) so I believe she made that up and they just never made my order. My actual Dasher went to pick it up and they told him it had been picked up. I then called Mi Cabana and the first lady I talked to gave me all the info I needed to know to know that they don't have their crap together. The manager then got on the phone and got extremely rude with me all because I asked him what protocols were in place for DoorDash confirmation. Needless to say, unless this place gets a new manager and all new staff, it's going to continue to be an absolute disaster. I have had issues in person with Mi Cabana as well from poor customer service to being overcharged on the check to the manager not knowing what's going on. I usually go for lunch and their lunch menu is super affordable. Im a huge fan of the Huevos Rancheros and my fiancee loves the mi cabana burrito. The staff is extremely attentive and turn around service is quick. This place can get packed on a weekend! Mexican restaurants in jacksonville come and go, some even have bugs Ive seen before while eating (the mexican place in richlands)! But this place is here to stay! It's very rare to find good grub in Jacksonville. As a native New Yorker, NY is filled with a plethora of mexican eateries and street food. Finding anything remotely close to that can be a difficult task. The decor here has authentic flair. Earth tones and very rustic. Very cozy and a large dining space. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. The drinks here are GREAT. If you want to get buzzed just go straight for the Margaritas. They also get a +1 star for serving Horchata as a spiked cocktail. The food here is spiced right and fresh. The fajitas are sizzling with flavor and texture. The platters are large and big enough to share amongst 2 people. My daughter plowed through complimentary spicy salsa and chips. The staff is attentive and understands what customer service really means. Sombreros off to the talented kitchen staff as well.
