As I sat inside of a Panera waiting for a restaurant reservation for 1 hour already, I decided to go somewhere else. Next to me was my fave go-to, Dave's hot chicken. It was a location I have not yet tried yet, so the appeal was there. Then, I remembered Birdies Hot Chicken - I've always wanted to try this place and it's down the street. Off we went! Get some steps in, walk past the commons and hot chicken awaits! Today is about 90 degrees and humid. This restaurant had the door pegged open and it had no AC inside. Already, we were uncomfortable. There was a single ipad ordering kiosk. Our order: 2 sliders with fries: Both Mild and Hot looked the same, spice wise. I only ate one so couldn't tell if they were the same or different. The tenders were smaller than Dave's. The spices were plentiful, like Daves. The same "hot" level is much more mild vs Dave's. I guess not a bad thing during this hot day with no air conditioning inside. The slaw in the burger was crisp but slight sweeter than Dave's. The bread seems to be a potato bun variety, but of lower quality vs Dave's. I was not impressed. the chicken tender also crumbed into 3 pieces as I bit into mine. Never does this happen at Daves. I got extra crispy on the fries and they were just crispy, IMHO. They were well seasoned and good though. The Quarter leg add-on was a great value, like $3.50 more to the combo above. However, it was way overcooked and I'd say 1 step from being burnt. When you're pulling pieces of bone out of your mouth but realize it's just overcooked chicken, then something is wrong. The wing as a side was pretty good. Very enjoyable. Maybe the best part of my meal. The corn bread was disappointing. It's probably the type you'd get at a school bake sale. The entire meal was only $25.68, so the value is there. I would not go out of my way for this place, especially if there is a Daves Hot Chicken around. I do admire that this is a "local" shop, but no one greeted me or said good bye on my way out despite them just sitting at the counter as we walked by. I'm glad I got this itch scratched as social media posts made this place look so good. Now, I can comfortably just enjoy Dave's going forward. read more

Finally decided to try Birdies Hot Chicken since they first opened a couple years back. I always walked by it and was curious about it and I have to say I'm glad I finally gave them a shot! I made an order online to pick up on my way home from work. I ordered a chicken salad and a side of fries. When I went in to pick up my order the service was somewhat aloof though not bad. I got home and couldn't wait to dig in. Everything tasted delicious! The veggies in the salad were crisp and fresh. The chicken was pretty tender and had a good flavor. The fries were seasoned nicely. Plus a generous portion of that amazing tangy sauce was the icing on the cake. I'll definitely be adding Birdies Hot Chicken to my rotation of quick stop dinner options in downtown! read more

I walked in and was immediately assisted, asked for recommendations since I was a first timer-- and landed on the slider with fries! It was juicy, hot, and the fries were sooooo tasty, it was addictive. They had a nice crunch to them. the slaw in the slider was good nothing to complain about, pickles added nice touch of acidity, and the sauce and honey complimented the savory and spicy aspect of the chicken! For those that rave about Cane's, everyone has to give this a shot. Clean, modern place, nice tables, ample space, and the location not that far out of the way. I love a good fried chicken and the slider I had was great. Great coating and frying. The special sauce they have is like a tangy chipotle mayo (and better than most secret sauces). Fries are fantastic. Love the spices they add but feel the coating can be more evened out. Catchy look for the design and appeal. Guy at the counter was friendly, helped me with options and what people usually get. Reasonally prices for the deal. They also had mac and cheese! One of my big inner cravings when going for friend chicken. Oh, and before I forget, you get to choose your chicken's spiciness!! For all these reasons it is definitely a 5. Ordered combo #1, 2 chicken tenders, medium heat, and fries. The chicken tenders were flavorful and not too spicy, just the tight amount to appreciate, and they were juicy and tender. THE SAUCE THO. I'm fairly neutral of sauces, they're nice to have as an option, but let me say this: It's everything everyone says it is! I used every last bit of it. The fries were crispy, yet still greasy. Salt and ketchup hid some of that. The dining room is large and well lit, could have been kept up a little better, but it was worth a stop in for the sauce and tendies. read more

This place just opened and has been the talk of the office! All of my coworkers went this week and loved it so I came today I got the #1-2 tenders and fries. I had heard that the medium spice was very spicy so I went for the spiciest level myself. The chicken is SOOO juicy and tender just incredibly cooked. The spice on mine was perfect for folks who like spicy and not "white people spicy" it tastes good and has some heat. It's always nice when a place that claims spicy doesn't simply add paprika or some cayenne. The fries are also very good-love a crinkle cut. The dipping sauce is super yummy. My only wish is that the pickles were less sweet they are like insanely sweet but that's personal preference and if they're that sweet it must be intentional so I won't knock it! 10/10 the food just wow! Also a great value for the price and the folks working there are nice! I do wish (and have heard from a few others the same) that they didn't use so much plastic in their packaging and were more eco friendly. For example I did not ask for a bag. I work across the street and would be fine without one-most places don't give you a bag anymore and in Boston there is a charge for plastic bags to discourage it-plus while I do respect the fact that they paid extra to have their takeout box branded, a cardboard or even commercially compostable box would be preferred. Very few spots in the area still offer packaging like this and I know it is preventing a few coworkers from returning and likely myself as well despite how amazing the food is. read more

For example, as a millennial, I highly appreciate hearing songs I grew up with while eating in or ordering take out. It's simply fun! They also have free arcade games, which is a creative way to pass time or have a nostalgic moment while out to eat. As they've established themselves, they have become steadily busy during the lunch hour. I typically order Combo #2 - two sliders with fries, medium spice. The chicken is plump, juicy, and flavorful while the fries are crinkle cut and well seasoned. I have yet to have a negative experience with this meal, so I have not found it within myself to deviate yet! I have gone with coworkers who have ordered the tenders on sliced bread or the bone-in wings who also rave about them, so their whole menu has incredible options! This is the best hot chicken I have ever had! While the food is amazingly seasoned, you can also grab ketchup or honey by the soda fountain. 10/07/24 - 1:38 PM - first place we ate on Sibling trip in Boston. We all ordered a Combo #1 - 2 Tenders with Fries. All tenders are served over sliced bread, pickles, and a side of Birdies sauce. We also all ordered an extra wing. My sister got all plain, my brother mild, I got medium hot. My tenders I believe were mild and my brother got my medium. I couldn't really taste any heat. The wing was hot left my mouth tingling a little. I enjoyed it. I don't like heat where it is no longer enjoyable in which was thankfully avoided. I came to like Nashville hot chicken after try Prince's Hot Chicken in Nashville. Prince is still the best chicken I had. But, Birdies in Boston hovers with the best I had since then. Everyone agreed that this was great food. My sister had to save here wing for the next day. Service was good. Ambiance in downtown had a touch of hip hop flair. The music was good. But, due to metered parking we got out had a bounced to find a side street near where we were staying to eat. We would eat this again. read more

I always get the churros with chocolate sauce. The churros are very good. They're on the crunchier side though so if you like soft churros these probbably aren't for you. The employees are always nice and the location is great. The establishment itself is very nice. read more
