I spent nearly 2 hours to start the process to do my first donation. The doctor looks at my Tattoo on my bicep 2 inches from when the needle will be placed. Told me I couldn't donate because of it according to their policy. I Read the tattoo policy multiple times and it states that it can't be where the needle will be placed to donate. The needle would be inserted away from where my tattoo is. The nurse wouldn't even take the time to look at my other arm.

Employees are rude, wonder around with a clueless look, ignore incoming guests. Huge waste of time going there. I'll stuck with CSL.

The really short Native American phlebotomist really cute she's super sweet and very nice, the management team are very nice as well, the Puerto Rican or Dominican phlebotomist that's very light skinned with the dark hair she's nice and sweet as well she always remembers I need something to squeeze before pumping, the black male I think he might e Puerto Rican as well always wearing nice shoes he's very nice also. Those are my top favorites, when doing vitals I gotta give a shot out to a few and unfortunately don't know their names which I need to start doing. The big guy he's super friendly and come to find out we have the same birthday and he calls me up by name, there's the older woman who is super duper sweet and once again I'm sorry I forgot her name but I love when I'm at her booth. Just an all out friendly facility, I use to donate at CSL Plasma and they took away platinum donors getting express passes so and their staff are always either mad or tired. Keep up the great work Octapharma!!!

I had a nightmare experience at this place. The equipment is questionable and the female techs…read moreabsolutely butchered me. My first visit to Octapharma in Mesa wasn't bad. The sign up and initial checkup procedure was pretty smooth, and I had a male phlebotomist who was great. The clientele was a bit sketchy, but I was in and out of the donation chair, feeling good and on my way in 35 minutes. My second visit was a different story. It was busier... and I was assigned to a kind of big girl with a sticker on her face shield that said something like "I hate my life, but at least I'm caffeinated". Very professional. I offered her my right arm that has a huge vein and said "you really can't miss that one hunh?" She replied "Oh you'd be surprised", which didn't exactly instill me with confidence about her abilities. She stuck in the needle and walked away and it was just me and the machine. I looked around. There was a short blonde girl with what looked like glitter in her hair that seemed to be enjoying her day, singing and bopping around despite working in this bizarre environment. My donation didn't seem to be going as smoothly or quickly as the first time. The numbers were ticking up slower than before. Then my machine beeped loudly.. "uh oh" I thought. Then another beep. I looked around and glitter girl was glaring at me and making the pump your fist signal. She didn't seem friendly or happy anymore. I raised my eyebrows and pumped. Then things seemed to take a significant turn for the worse. A different more insistent beep began and a girl with the name tag "Lead Phleb" came over and said "we're going to try your other arm". Ok. But then after removing the needle she said... "Oh crap your blood pressure cuff wasn't velcroed tight". So chunky caffeinated shield girl did in fact blow it. So Lead Phleb hooked up my left arm and things seemed ok. I slowly but surely made it to 93% of my donation goal, but then the machine started beeping again. Something wasn't right. At this point I should have walked out. Especially once Lead Phleb informed me that she was going to search for a mysterious, but not visible second vein in my left arm. She felt around with a Qtip and tried to stick me a little.. no luck. She went to look for the manager lady, but she had gone on her lunch break. At this point the procedure basically turned into an assault as glitter girl came over to "help" and jabbed the razor sharp needle deep into my arm twice, shrugged and walked away. I managed to not scream, but was in shock at what had just happened. Lead phleb looked as horrified as me and said "Uh yeah we're going to go ahead and abort.. you'll still get paid." Yeah... no sh*t!! Then she asked me how I'm feeling. I didn't feel well. I was very light headed and cold and sweating all at once. Lead Phleb asks me if I've ever had a "blood loss" before... because apparently not all of my blood was returned to my body before she disconnected the machine. What? In addition she explains that I'm probably going to have "some bruising" and that she'll give me a flyer on how to care for it. I'm pretty angry at this point. Glitter girl has disappeared. I later read online that other people have complained about her doing things like this. She is apparently some kind of psychopath maybe?! I got the hell out of there and did my best to recuperate in my car... drinking water and trying to feel well enough to drive. Within a half hour of returning home my left arm started to swell and turn red. My arm felt all sliced up inside and blood was pooling under the skin. I considered a trip to the emergency room, but I'm currently uninsured and decide to tough it out. I began icing and elevating it. By the next day my arm was black and blue, swollen and quite painful. On the day after that, my arm was even worse and looked like the pictures above. Holding my phone to type was agony. I was taking pain medication and mostly just lying in bed trying to get better for several days. Feeling normal and pain free took three weeks. Any exercise made me lightheaded. I had to take iron pills to try to get my hemoglobin back up. I have vowed to never let a needle near my arm again. All in all... a nightmare experience. I barely made any money and I ended up enduring enough pain and suffering that I considered whether I should contact a lawyer or maybe even press charges for assault against glitter girl. Octapharma is a multi billion dollar a year company. You'd think that they could afford to hire and train a semi professional staff and have a supervisor around at all times, but that is clearly not the case... at least not at this location. Avoid!

REVIEW #1000! My…read moresiblings and I like to donate blood together, and so my brother and I decided to come here and give platelets. I had only donated with the Red Cross once back in college, so this was my first time doing platelets at a donation center. I didn't even know they had them, I thought they only did mobile drives. But it makes sense since platelet donations are only done at a center. It was easy to create an account and schedule an appointment online. I like that I could add my donor id to my phone wallet, since they ask for it at checkin and during the interview process. The center is easy to locate and parking was plentiful. We signed in at the front desk and got name tags, which was a thoughtful touch. We were told it would be a bit of a wait since they had a big rush of donors come in. We sat in the waiting area for 30 minutes until our names were called. The interview process went smoothly and I absolute love their hemoglobin tester! No finger pricks here and my level was healthy. I also like that they do a temperature check using a forehead thermometer, so there's no need to remove my mask. Sandy was funny and personable and I enjoyed having her throughout my donation process. She was attentive and made sure I had everything I needed, including a warmed blanket and tums for the tingling. The donation chairs each have their own tv screen and headphones, which is great because giving platelets here requires a needle in both arms, so you aren't free to use one to read a book or use a device. My donation took 116 minutes, so I watched a movie on Netflix to help the time pass by (though I could hear it fine, the volume level was not adjustable from the remote). Tori helped me when I finished and was great. They have a nice selection of snacks in the canteen area plus water and juices, so I enjoyed a tropical punch, cheezits, and some pretzels. The staff gave us a nice bag and these plastic popcorn containers as a gift for our first platelet donation with them, which was an unexpected surprise. Overall, it was a positive experience despite the wait time and two arm donation. The staff was great and helpful and I'm glad we were able to donate here! Go donate blood/platelets if you can :-)

Every time he has to have bloodwork done at Sonora Quest the techs there never have a problem finding a vein - easy peasy. Yesterday (Sunday) they "blew out his vein" in his right arm. They had 4 techs trying to locate a vein. It's to the point now he no longer wants to donate blood at this facility. He may give them one more try but in the meantime we are searching for another facility.

Great First-Time Donation Experience…read more I had a great experience donating blood here the other day. It was actually my first time ever donating, as my doctor recommended it since I'm on TRT therapy and needed to do a Power Red donation. I was definitely a little intimidated going in since I had never done it before. I had also read a few negative reviews online beforehand, which made me a bit skeptical, but I decided to go anyway. Before my appointment I called ahead with a few questions and spoke with a really helpful staff member who gave me great advice and helped ease some of my anxiety. When I arrived, the front desk team was very friendly and welcoming. They walked me through the process and made everything easy to understand. The nurse who set up my donation was knowledgeable, patient, and very kind throughout the whole experience. Since it was my first Power Red donation, I learned the machine can be a little tricky because it cycles your plasma back into the line, so you have to keep your arm positioned a certain way. The system gave a few warnings during the process, but the head nurse came over and was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She stayed close by for much of the time to make sure everything went smoothly and that I was comfortable. The staff also checked on me multiple times and brought me snacks, including chocolate chip cookies, and set me up with my own tray and a bottle of water. It really felt like they cared about making sure donors were comfortable. It also wasn't overly crowded. I showed up around 10 AM and there were probably about ten people donating, but by the time I was halfway through my donation it had quieted down quite a bit and I had plenty of space. The chair itself was very comfortable. After finishing, I was able to relax in the recovery area and help myself to some snacks (the popcorn was great!). As an added bonus, I even received a free ticket to the Renaissance Festival for donating that day. Overall it was a very positive experience and the staff did a wonderful job helping a first-time donor feel comfortable and supported. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking to donate blood.

I've been here a few times now and have had mixed experiences. I wasn't able to donate on two occasions because of a slight fever and low iron, but that's not their fault! I've donated successfully a few times and it's been a smooth process each time. The phlebotomists are professional and friendly and I personally haven't had issues with the needle stick and draw. Lots of snacks and drinks available, nice receptionist at the front, and spacious location. I recommend donating at a Vitalant near you and helping others!

I went to Vitalant planning to donate whole blood, but the staff suggested I switch to a plasma…read moredonation because my hemoglobin was "really good." I agreed. After 40min, the machine couldn't draw enough plasma and the technician told me "it's still enough, we can stop here, you've given enough blood." So I left thinking at least part of my donation was collected and would be used. A few days later, I checked my Vitalant account and saw my donation listed as "Unsuccessful Draw." No explanation, no details, nothing. That means the donation was discarded -- yet the staff told me everything was "enough" and "good." This is incredibly confusing and honestly feels misleading. If the product was not usable, then say that. If nothing was collected, then say that. If partial plasma was discarded, then say that. A donor should not have to guess what happened to their own blood. I volunteered my time and my body to help people, and the lack of transparency makes me feel like my effort didn't matter. Vitalant needs major improvements: Clear communication/Transparency: Donors should be told upfront when a donation ends early and whether anything is actually usable. Or even online portal should show more details, what was taken, what was discarded, how much was taken, where is it going, who did i help, some sort of transparency. Accurate donor history: The online portal should show what was collected (blood, plasma, partial amounts) even if it's discarded. Respect for donors' time: It's discouraging to give blood only to learn from the website -- not the staff -- that it was thrown away. I want to support blood donation, but this experience left me confused, disappointed, and feeling like I wasn't told the truth. So, I am not going back to Vitalant for sure but I will still explore more options to help out people.
