We are still in search of mirrors for our newly renovated bathroom. Bingswanger Glass came recommended by another vendor. It is small office front, but appears to be where they also do their glass and mirror work. The have a sign upfront strictly forbidding customers from coming into the workshop area. However, if you look through the door you see many work stations. Viviana was very helpful over the phone. We decided to go in and see their mirrors up close. Their mirrors were fine, however, not with many options. The choices for our bathroom was clear glass or beveled glass. We obtained a quote for both. Horrible store/manager/warranty. Binswanger replaced a custom, round window in our living room 4 years ago. The glass failed and I contacted the store manager, Scott Rubin, for a replacement under warranty. To my surprise, Scott quoted a price that was almost as much as the original cost. I pushed for an itemized cost (never received) but was told labor is only warrantied for one year. I called Trent Hankins at AeroMass Glass. He came out, measured, ordered, and installed the glass for only $40 more than Binswanger's quote "under warranty". AeroMass offers a 10-year warranty. If any window he installs starts fogging or condensing within the 10-year window, the glass and labor are covered. Trent's number is 512-968-4047. Binswanger is a huge company that has no incentive to do the right thing for customers. Give a AeroMass Glass a call and get honesty, a fair price, and great service. read more

After being turned down by a glass company up the street, I stopped in Binswanger to see if they could help with a missing (broken by dropping it) glass on a clock treasured, because it was a special gift. Every person I encountered in Binswanger Glass went out of their way in an extremely professional manner. A professional looked at the clock and I left with an estimate. Horrible Service, poor quality and virtually no value = Binswanger I remodeled my entire home two years ago and had the Austin Binswanger install two glass shower doors and a mirror. I had issues day 1 of install (4 attempts at installing a mirror which took three months due to wrong measurments or they'd break the mirror during the installation, very shotty work with the shower install, etc.) and have had issues ever since. Every 6-8 months the shower door shifts (slightly) causing it to scrap against the tiled wall. Since installing the master shower door they came out twice to adjust it. Now I'm told I have to pay $450 to get someone to come out and tighten the screws. When the lady who answered the phone on 9/12 @ 8:30am informed me of this, I asked if there was someone (like a manager) I could speak with. Apparently this offended the lady because she insisted she knew her job, and maybe I just didn't understand. Perhaps she was having a bad day. Now I have to rip out the work Binswanger did just 2 years ago and buy a new glass door. Fortunately, the general contractor I used for my remodel no longer uses Binswanger; the contractor uses their competitor (Shower doors of Austin) who has a lifetime warranty, and will service shower doors when needed. While the Bingswanger door should have lasted much longer than two years, I look forward to working with Shower doors of Austin. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

I'm here to add to the chorus of boos. Absolutely awful from start to finish. The employees are rude to their customers, and, as far as I can tell, to each other. They are also incompetent and dishonest. I was lied to twice in two phone calls (batting 1.000!). My job was the simplest imaginable: cut one piece of glass to repair a broken pane. Somehow this took four hours, and what I got was a useless shard. Curvy on one edge, not a single corner close to 90º. For this, I later discovered, Binswanger also charges more than the competition. The people at Alamo Glass are also not exactly friendly--these are the trades, after all--but at least they can do a simple job properly in just a few minutes. Binswanger, in contrast, is truly pathetic. I patronized because they were recommended by a friend, but it turns he hadn't been a customer in more than a decade. Evidently, a lot has changed for the worse. Please don't reply with your off-the-shelf we're-sorry-and-we-care line. We know you don't care. Feel like my money is being held hostage. I called to see if they could realistically (meaning within budget) fix a 13x20 piece of glass out of a garden window. The gals at the office are SUPER FRIENDLY which is great. they clearly outlined the trip fee is $230 some dollars. yet that does apply toward the cost of the job. I outlined I can't spend a lot so wanted to check prior to incurring this trip charge that a) they've done this type of thing before - garden windows and that b) it's not going to be exhorbitant. that it could be somewhere around the $200-300 mark because I can't spend more. I'll leave it as is. not worth the guy coming out if it's hugely expensive. they even gave me their phone numbers and I sent pictures of the window with the 1 specific piece of glass to fix circled, outlined. I said everyone else is quoting in the thousands to replace the entire window which I cannot afford so please lmk if you can do a piece of glass instead and it will be less. She said they've done this before and if they can't fix they'd refund my trip charge. She asked for the size of the glass, showed the pictures to someone (or so it seemed) and said it was do'able. well, they conveniently now say they didn't hear that last part about how I can't afford anything much over the trip amount, and sent a guy out. the quote they gave me was over $1,000 to fix that one piece of glass. They now won't refund my trip charge. I clearly said don't come out if you haven't replaced this piece of glass for about $200-300. Just unfair. I get you can't quote a job via a photo but when i customer says she only has a budget of $200-$300, and you know it's going to cost more, don't send someone out. $10k bathroom remodel and looking to get an estimate on a frameless enclosure. Coincidentally I got a mailer with a coupon that offered a $100 and free estimate. I called Friday 5/26 and spoke to an Alice. Before I told her about the coupon, she said there would be a $279 trip fee for the estimate. I told her I had a free estimate coupon and she immediate said "oh, our system is down. I'll have to call you back Monday to schedule". Never heard back. This company is totally full of ****!!! Worst company in 7 years of remodeling homes I've ever dealt with. They lied about cost, they lied about installation dates and no-showed twice, unannounced. I called 8x's and went by twice, asking to talk with manager and was told he was at the bank or at lunch. I finally called corporate office and filed complaint, I got a call 15minutes later by Scott Ruben, the manager. He came out and said it was a bad install, ordered another glass panel, 2 weeks later they came to install, glass was wrong size. They have not called or returned my calls or the home owners calls. They hung up on both of us today and said they're not working with us anymore and they've been paid in full. Ohmygod. I went to Binswanger (where I've shopped on occasion since I was a kid) to buy a mirror to replace the one that fell off the bathroom door of our travel trailer when my husband drove over a huge pothole in Baja (grrr). Three helpful women were working in the front of the store. We decided I'd need one that's a quarter-inch thick. When I picked it up, I suspected my husband (grrr) would say it was too heavy. Sure enough, he said it was too heavy. So, back I went. (And yes, you're right, I should've told him to get the replacement mirror in the first place.) When I went back, the three nice women in the front told me they'd cut me an eighth-inch mirror while I waited. While we were talking, Otis came to the front from the back of the store. He took on the project. As he worked on the mirror, we shared camping stories, and he gave me a tip on two great RV campgrounds nearby. He also decided he'd put a "safety back" on the mirror (at no charge!) so that if my husband (grrr) drove over another pothole, it wouldn't shatter into a thousand pieces if it fell off. And he carefully selected the proper mounting clips. Otis took pride in his work. The eighth-inch mirror was perfect. Otis and the three women were just wonderful. I've been a Binswanger commercial customer for 35 years - NO MORE! Horrible recent experience. The manager, Scott Rubin, has an I don't care attitude and is a jerk. The job was promised to be fully completed by May 27th. Been waiting two months for plain annealed glass order, half the order was installed and broken during phase one installation, one window was repeatedly never ordered, and still waiting for the second half of my order. The images show brand new windows Binswanger broke during installation, sloppy installation, and missing plastic window glazing (glazing keeps the window from falling out of the frame). Staff repeatedly lied regarding delivery dates, staff claimed Scott was overseeing the job but never stayed in-touch regarding the order, and was conveniently on vacation during the promised delivery date. Scott's latest response "Overseeing orders is not my job...I don't know...I'm not going to do anything, but I'll have one of the girls call you when the glass arrives." What the heck does a manager at a glass shop supposed to do if not oversee orders and provide guidance to staff? Forced to make daily phones calls for updates because none of these clowns ever call-back when they say they will. Constantly changing delivery and installation dates. Keep in mind, I'm a commercial customer and deal with construction vendors daily. The Binswanger guys take lazy and incompetent to a whole new level. To add insult to injury, Scott lost his temper and quit the job. This left me with two brand new broken windows, two more brand new leaking windows with missing glazing or improperly installed, and a fourth window totally missing. We bought an antique decorative metal frame missing an oval mirror. Several other glass shops declined the job, but Binswanger handled it as if it was not a problem at all. Contacted Binswanger Glass initially through Yelp to replace glass in a rain glass window. I tried to get a general estimate by providing the measurements and photos. Binswanger needed to come out to my house and measure in order to provide an estimate. The appointment time was one week out. I called Binswanger Glass the day before the appointment because I had no idea what time they'd be at my house (yes - oddly enough, I had an appointment day but no appointment time). The receptionist confirmed I was on the books for the next day but told me Binswanger doesn't have appointment times until the morning of the appointment. Seriously? What business operates like that? I called the next morning at 9:15 and was told they had to reschedule me because a truck broke down. The new appointment would be one week out. I should have stopped trying to get an estimate from Binswanger right then, but I didn't. One week later, in the morning, Binswanger called me to inform me that I had an afternoon appointment. They arrived close to the appointment time and measured. After five business days and 2 phone calls requesting my estimate I was finally emailed an estimate. It would appear that Binswanger Glass doesn't need or want my business. The estimate was over $200 more than the estimate I received from Trent at Aeromass Glass. It took almost a month to get the estimate from Binswanger Glass while Aeromass Glass gave me an estimate the same day I contacted them. Do not waste your time and energy with Binswanger. Paid Binswanger Glass to install new shower glass. Day of install they brought the wrong glass. I called and spoke to the lady who helped us with the original order. She admittedly said her manager entered the wrong information. The glass they brought with them was cheaper than what I ordered. I asked the lady to have the manager call me so we could discuss discounting the price since installed glass was cheaper. As of today no one has called me. The install was handled expeditiously, but the installers didn't take off all of the old sealant and it's under the new clear sealant. There are spots that are obvious to see. In a nutshell, customer service is not professional. Today, we noticed the glass door was hitting the closure side panel. This will cause chipping. I called Binswanger Glass and spoke to an employee answering the call. I explained what the door was doing and told her the manger still has not called me. I was attempting to explain everything to her and she kept cutting me off. I asked her to let me finish, and she told me she would cut me off to correct my comments. I studied up on the various pieces and parts I would need and then stopped by Binswanger Glass to source the needed glass framing materials. I was assisted in the material selection process by a gentlemen named Rick, who couldn't have been more helpful. He explained things to me and made useful suggestions. When Binswanger didn't have all of the exact material I needed in stock, Rick immediately referred me to a local metal frame dealer who would have the items I needed on-hand. When it came time for me to checkout, Serina was very fast in preparing my invoice and was super courteous during the process. When I later emailed her to request a digital copy of my invoice, she immediately replied with the requested invoice. Couldn't ask for better customer service. Even though I was clearly a complete novice when it came to glass construction methods & parts, Rick and Serina took care of me and treated me with the same respect and courtesy I'm sure they provide to all of their customers. Went to South Congress location for a couple of custom cut glass pieces. Bog sign on door that face masks are required for entry (and it's STILL an ordinance in Austin). I entered with mask on. Noticed another customer wearing a face mask, but neither employee behind the sales counters we're wearing one. I asked one of the ladies why. She told me it wasn't the law any more. I told her about the sign on the door and that, yes, it's still required in Austin. She said if it would make me feel better she'd put one on. I said it would and she complied reluctantly. I had a very poor experience with Binswanger, which I contacted to fix a broken window at my home. I should note that the workers who actually showed up were more than pleasant, helpful, and polite. Unfortunately, getting there required nearly three months of wrangling and extra effort on my part. After a quote and deposit, Binswanger went all but silent for weeks and even when contacted, would not give any updates on the status of my glass order despite the months long delay. Promises to call or email me with further info were not kept, despite repeated requests, and it was clear the staff's main priority was to get themselves off the phone rather than address the problem. Binswanger made no attempt to remedy the issue until I threatened to cancel my deposit and take my business elsewhere, at which point they got into gear and replaced my broken glass within a week. While the quality of the ultimate work was high, it should not take months of extra hassle and stress by the customer to ensure a company behaves professionally (especially services for which they've already taken payment). read more

Had an appointment set up 10 days in advance, 2 days before my service I was called and told I had to go 30 miles out of my way to a different location due to lack of a certain repair equipment. Originally, there was terrible customer service but a day later I talked with Serina and she arranged to have a truck in the area come to my place of work. Know your Binswanger. How do you make an addition next to a master bedroom disappear? My friends live next to a forest and they loved waking up to that view... but they were having a baby and needed a laundry room addition, pronto. What if the windows in the addition reflect the forest... what if they are large, mirrored glass without any trim, without any mullions? Oh, and what if the glass spans from floor to just below the ceiling, so it must be tempered... Reflective, Low-E, AND tempered, can you do that? Yes, it was a custom order and yes it was expensive, and YES Keith at Binswanger on Burnet really came through. I ordered the glass with him, discussed the detail and the necessity for two jumbo pieces of mirror glass... one 7' x 8' and one 4' x 8' that would join at the corner with a butt joint... a disappearing vertical seam. After showing him some drawings and discussing the detail, he said they could not only special order the glass, but they could also install it... awesomeness. When they showed up to install, they were all business. The guys have to be strong and patient and willing to work with something that can break... I had thought some of my requests were unrealistic or over-the-top but they did it. My friends now have a 4 year old who always has clean clothes and who likes gifts from Aunt Kimbery and thinks that all laundry rooms are flooded with light and trees. Not all Binswangers do the same kind of work, from what I understand. Some focus on cars and some focus on custom architectural jobs... so you may want to make sure your Binswanger can do what you want him to do... cuz they will refer you to the right one if the one you call does something else well. I am pretty sure, though, if your job involves glass, Binswanger can please you like they pleased me. read more

Three people behind the counter, and their response to my inquiry was "there aren't any shower door salesmen in the building right now". They said they'd take my number and have one call me. I said I wanted to be able to see samples or something, which is why I walked into a brick and mortar store. They responded by handing me a brochure. Left my number, and they said they'd have someone call me as soon as they returned. Two days later... still waiting for a call back. Some crazy dude who was upset with the IRS flew a plane into the echelon building (near 183 and mopac, across from my office) in Austin earlier today. As you might expect, the building was on fire and there were people hanging outside the windows who needed help getting out. Binswanger glass noted the situation and took their own trucks/ladders out to help folks depart the building. (not sure if Austin fire dept. was on the scene yet). It's stuff like this that makes me proud to live in Austin and I think it should be noted that these guys are patriots. Well, after waiting over a month, my glass shower is finally installed. I ordered my glass in late June, and was told that it would take approximately 7 to 10 business days to be installed. So I sat and waited 15 days, and when no one had called, I called in. I was greeted by a very rude lady who tried to school me on how 10 business days works, until she pulled out a calendar and realized it had been the 11th business day that day (July 4th excluded). Once she finally realized that she was wrong and I was right, she placed me on hold and then told me the glass wasn't in yet, and when I asked if she had any idea when the glass would be in her response was "Well, Sir, sometimes glass breaks, it will be here when it gets here and we will call you." So I waited again. No phone calls. I called back a week later to inquire, got a nicer person, who told me the glass still wasn't in and she would call the glass manufacturer but got only a voicemail. This phone call went un-returned as well. This seems to a motif running at Binswanger, not returning peoples calls. So this last Friday, I finally called, and by then I was VERY upset at how long this was taking. I was immediately transferred to my sales guy, at which point I left a voicemail. This voicemail was returned this morning (Monday), at once Eddie told me that my glass actually HAD been in back warehouse this whole time, and that someone neglected to tell him that the glass had arrived about 10 business days ago. So here I sit today, with my glass shower finally installed after a month of waiting on something I was told would take 7 to 10 business days. Not to mention this glass is not cheap by any means. I am VERY dissatisfied with the level of customer appreciation and communication that I received on this project. If my sales guy hadn't had my credit card number I would have gone to another glass installer a long time ago. I hope Binswanger doesn't treat all their customers like this, because as it stand for now, I will never be returning for business there again, and I will sure be telling others to steer clear as well.
