I really enjoyed the pork soup dumplings and cucumber salad. They are perfectly soupy and the dumpling wraps are steamed and sealed to perfection. It's been a while since I've been to Bing's Dumplings, but I remember them to be pretty good. Today, we opted to give this place a go - my partner's first time here. Not my first time, but it's been a few years since I've last tried this place, so I was wondering if the quality is the same. I decided to consult with Yelp to see what's popular on their menu now. We came here around 4:30PM on a Sunday because we ended up skipping lunch and opted for an early dinner instead. We had the restaurant all to ourselves for a while, which was really pleasant. Because it's so nice when it's not busy, I'd probably consider coming here during non-peak hours again. Between the two of us, we opted for 1) Bean Curd Stick Salad, 2) Shrimp & Pork Wonton in Chili Oil, 3) Pork Soup Dumplings - 4 pcs, 4) Potstickers - 6 pcs, 5) Vegetable Bun, 6) Noodle with Pork Soybean Sauce, and 7) Sauteed Snow Pea Shoots. Yes, a lot for two people, but we do love our leftovers! First up, the Bean Stick Salad. We loved this. This was absolutely refreshing and appetizing for a hot day and after a hike. There's plenty of bean sticks tossed with some julienned cucumbers and carrots, and some cilantro, which had a mild kick to it, but was great. I tossed in a bit of chili oil and vinegar in mine, and that elevated it a bit more. It was delicious. Next up, the Shrimp & Pork Wonton in Chili Oil. This might just be my favorite. I'm not to go for chili oil often, but the chili oil here just adds an extra depth of flavor rather than a spicy kick. Something about their wrappers were amazing too. I don't think I've ever had wrappers that smell nice (I don't think wrappers normally do?). But these were definitely not store-bought wrappers. The filling was portioned and flavored nicely. We were absolutely considering buying a pack of 50 to make at home ourselves. Next up, the Pork Soup Dumplings. I'm not sure half order was an option before, but I'm so glad they have that option now. Less quantity means ordering other items for more variety, haha! The Pork Soup Dumplings were also amazing. Skin was thin, and there was plenty of soup in each of the dumplings. Enough that you can literally sip a spoonful. Also one of the best XLBs I've ever had and I can proudly say that I had plenty. As for the Potstickers, I recall them having skirts when I first tried them, but I could be wrong. Maybe they changed it up a bit. These potstickers are huge. I like how they wrapped it so you're not getting a bite of just potsticker skin on top. The filling is kinda just placed in the middle and folded over on opposite sides - generously filled. I liked the addition of sesame seeds as well. They add a slight nuttiness and extra element. Skin was pan-fried just until it was golden brown - perfect. Although it didn't try to impress with a nice skirt, it was certainly still a great hit. Next, the Vegetable Bun. I'm a little biased in that I more often than not pick veggie over meaty flavors. And because I love buns, I definitely had to try the vegetable bun after seeing pictures on Yelp. It comes with some mushrooms! The buns were as soft and fluffy as I imagined them to be. They were big and the filling was pretty good both portion and flavor wise. It's not super flavorful like you can expect meat buns to be. It's just simple and delicious. Up next, the Noodle with Pork Soybean Sauce. I didn't have much of this because I rather save my stomach for the other items we ordered. But I did sample it and the noodles were thick and chewy. Hand pulled, super long noodles. We were wondering why they provided scissors from the beginning, but this answered our question. The sauce had a nice depth of flavor, but contrast that with the cucumber and carrots, and you get a nice balance between something super flavorful and refreshing ingredients. Lastly, the Sauteed Snow Pea Shoots. They were made well. Crunchy, fresh-looking shoots, but just a tad too oily for my liking. I'm guessing they flash fried. It's good, but I'd skip next time. Needless to say, we had a great time here. Most things we ordered, I'd highly recommend. If I were to really pick one item to recommend, it would be the Shrimp & Pork Wonton with Chili Oil. I'm just kinda blown away by both the smell and flavor of this simplistic dish. Service was friendly. My only concern is their use of disposable items, but other than that, everything else was great. I know I had delicious red beans baos here before, and I was hoping to bring some frozen ones back to just steam ourselves, but they didn't have those available. We were craving for some beef noodle soup and dumplings and didn't want to wait in line at the other popular dumpling place so we came here. First of all, I didn't like using paper plates and paper cups. It's one thing if the prices were cheaper, but they're not and for them to rush you out before all of us were done eating seem rude. The noodles were good, but they're good at many other places. The XLB/dumplings were okay, but with so many other dumpling restaurants around, this one falls short. I recently came here again after a few years and it is still great like I remember. The food is some of the best dim sum in the area. They also give complimentary hot tea. Just keep in mind it's a small place so it can be hard to get seating when it's busier. XLB - the wrappers were not too thick and did not break when picking them up! Passed by this place for what feels like my entire life and only getting to try it now. The xiaolongbao here are as flavorful and satisfying as any high end restaurant I've been to. We weren't too hungry so kept to that and their pot stickers, which fried bottoms are coated with sesame seeds. Staff are friendly and it's a small but clean place. This past visit we had beef soup, pork and shrimp dumplings, cucumbers, and the pork rice plate. We've had their vegetable buns and dumplings, pumpkin dumplings, soup dumplings, and desserts. All in all very good options. We got seated and served rather quickly, but the restaurant does get busy. This place is worth visiting servers times since they have a fairly large menu. The food came out very, like I mean 5 min after you order. Shrimp and Pork Wonton in Chili Oil (4.5/5): This one was definitely worth the most bang for your buck here as it was $10.25 for 10 pieces. This was pretty spicy, but tasty as well. A bit underwhelming for me but can't complain about the price. Pork and Crab Soup Dumpling (5/5): This came with 8 pieces as the dumpling was filled with pork and crab roe. I'm not sure if crab and pork together, but I really like the crab roe because it was different from what I was used to. Be careful because the filling spills out very easily! They even have dumplings frozen for you to purchase and make at home - and it's definitely worth it! This is a really small, no frills spot (think disposable plates, cups, and utensils) located in a predominantly Asian strip mall and specializing in dumplings and hand pulled noodles. My friend and I stopped here around 8 PM on Saturday after hiking Coyote Hills nearby, and were seated immediately and served very promptly. Literally every table had an order of the PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS ($11.50), which are great classic xiao long baos with lots of soup and a generous, meaty filling. I also really enjoyed the NOODLE WITH PORK IN SOYBEAN PASTE SAUCE ($14.99) -- the hand pulled noodles here are amazing, with a soft but perfect chew and good flavor. They're also crazy long, and served with scissors to make them more manageable. Overall, this is the kind of satisfying, casual Chinese spot I wish we had in Palo Alto. First off, I was quite turned off by the fact that they use paper plates and non reusable utensils for customers (besides serving plates, tea pot, and spoons). We got their chili wonton, crab and pork soup dumplings, pork soup dumplings, Noodle with Pork in Soybean Paste Sauce (油泼面), and chive pockets. Their wontons had a really thick wrapper but the filling was good and can really taste the shrimp. My friends and I honestly could not tell the difference between the crab and pork dumplings and the pork dumplings but we can see the difference in price and it is not worth it. The good part was that the dumpling skin was thin and had lots of soup inside. Quite good. The chive pockets literally just had just chives. I love chives so I enjoyed it but it wasn't anything amazing and the wrapper was kind of hard. My friends liked the noodles the most. The noodles was soft yet chewy coated with a salty pork sauce. Lastly, we got their pork and chive dumplings and they are the meatiest dumplings I've ever had. They make it in house and it was huge. I finally had to try this place after a friend all the way from Daly City raved about it at work! I thought to myself, why haven't I tried this place yet?!?!? I quickly learned that I'm so lucky to have it in the area The first thing I noticed was this restaurants COVID precautions! Each table had hand sanitizer, disposable chopsticks and disposable sauce containers. A disposable cup for the complimentary tea and disposable bowl for the cold salad appetizer. All disposable items were incorporated reasonably. A+ for cleanliness! As much as it seems the public has been getting more comfortable with the virus, this restaurant does not take your health and safety for granted. We were seated quickly & given menus immediately. However, our order wasn't taken until after 10-15min. Same with asking for the bill and boxes, it took effort to flag down our waitress. Although the server was very polite and well mannered, the service was quite slow. Despite this, I rate them with 5 stars bc of the great food. The flavors were simply on point. There's nothing like big portions of delicious food that can't make you happy! The XLB is the star of the show, it's amazing how huge they are in person, as well as the potstickers. Just know the photos don't do them justice! All the noodles soups are made with fresh, chewy, bouncy homemade hand pulled noodles. I do feel they could have been cooked a little more Al dente. Bing's has decent soup dumplings. Their noodles are also fresh and clearly hand made. However, the food's presentation needs serious improvement, especially the way everything is served in paper cups and trays. The problem with paper cups is that it is difficult--and potentially dangerous--to drink hot tea from it. The paper trays, although easy to cleanup, funnels a sense of cheapness to the entire restaurant. That's ok if the prices match the situation, but Bing's is clearly disregarding those rules and still charges a premium for the food ($20/bowl noodles) despite serving them out of cheap bowls & plates.
