Two meat combo - ribs/sausage
Lowell O.

It's not a pretentious place. It's as down home as you get. But if you don't like the ribs or sausage here, you're one meal away from discovering that you're a vegetarian. The ribs are the perfect expression of St. Louis style ribs. And their sausage 100% beef and 100% made from scratch right here on site. And it shows. You can't get that texture from a commercial outfit. These guys are obviously not politicians because they don't put their own spin on anything. Their spin is, there is no spin. Everything's done the traditional way. Nothing is "extra" -- not extra salty, smokey, sweet, tangy or spicy -- just extra tasty! I haven't tried their brisket. And I may never try it. Because next time I come back, I'm getting another two meet combo with ribs and sausage! My sides were potatoe salad and coleslaw. They had a number of other options, but in my background, those are the most traditional sides and that's what I was in the mood for. These sides were made with the same principal. Keep it traditional. Don't put a spin on it. But put pride into it, like you were serving it to your pastor at your house on the Fourth of July. The entire meal could have been served up in 1950. But it's good ol' American barbecue. If it ain't broke (and it certainly ain't)... don't "fix" it. Just serve it up and watch 'em come back for more.

Solid. It's like going to someone's house for a bbq. solid. This is more old school bbq. Not your craft bbq that's taken over Central Texas. Ribs (and potato salad) are solid. Brisket and sausage would not be my choice here.

Stopped here for a quick bite. Interesting to see that they have mutton on the menu. The lean brisket and the ribs were good, but the mutton was a little too fatty for my taste.

If you're ever in the area and get a hankering for some of the absolute best barbecue in Texas, I highly recommend you stop by Billy's and try out what he's cooking! Great food, all the sides and even dessert, if you still have room for it!! You won't be disappointed!

Just average bbq that is overpriced. One of the employees touched their face (eye or nose, can't remember) and grabbed slices of bread afterwards. I ended up tossing the bread and just asking another employee for more. I had been here a few times over dozen years, and it's not as good as when I first had it years ago. The owner is still there and active in day to day operations. I won't be back. There's lots more bbq joints with higher standards.

Stopped at this place by happenstance. Best decision ever!!! Great food and a cozy relaxed atmosphere. Friendly service. Melt in your mouth beef! Wish it wasn't so far away.

BBQ is respectable and the ambiance is fitting for a BBQ spot on the side of the road. Friendly staff. Nothing great but worth trying once.

When you arrive inside you get a southern homey vibe and are greeted with smiles. I then noticed on the wall that they were known for their breakfast. So I was ecstatic to try it out. When seated I scanned over the menu and decided to try the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast plate. When the food arrived I was shocked! The portions were huge and the biscuit was so soft and delicious and the potatoes were crispy and delectable! The eggs were fluffy and the entire overall experience was phenomenal! That's fine because it allowed us a bit of time to check out downtown Bastrop. Once seated, service was American cafe classic. Very friendly and full of memorabilia on the walls and decore. The evening cleaning crew left us an upside down dead . . . Yup, you guessed it. We told the server, they might want to clean it up before seating the next guest at that table. Rule of restaurant opening is to sweep before the doors are opened. We will probably be back because it's still a great place for breakfast. CritDicks

During that time, Coffee Dog was reliable, welcoming, and worth recommending. Unfortunately, under new ownership, that is no longer the case. This morning was the final straw. I placed my order and waited over 30 minutes, only to receive absolutely nothing. After my order was taken, I reasonably assumed it was being prepared. Instead, a different employee later came to the window and asked what I had ordered as if no record or communication existed at all. At that point, I asked for a refund. What followed was a frustrating and unnecessary ordeal. The so-called manager came to the window and began explaining how long a sandwich takes to make despite the fact that I did not order a sandwich. The manager clearly did not understand the situation, continued wasting my time, and failed to listen after I had already made it clear that I just wanted a refund since my order was never made. Even processing the refund became a struggle. This is not an isolated incident. On several prior visits, they've been under-supplied, out of basic items, or dealing with non-functioning machines issues that are frankly unacceptable for a business that calls itself a coffee shop. The lack of organization and accountability is astounding. One of our clients regularly purchased gift cards from Coffee Dog for us, but after this experience, I will be telling him not to return. Mr. Hodges, save your money this place is no longer worth it. It's incredibly sad to see how far this business has fallen. I supported Coffee Dog for the longest time, but I am officially done. I will not be returning, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. Future customers should be aware: this business is not the same under new ownership.

Just happened yo stumble upon The Gas Station and decided to check it out. If you love horror films, you'll dig this place. They have so many cool things inside. Tons of rad horror toys and posters and just stuff! I had so much fun just checking everything out. We were quick to find out that it was also one of the filming locations of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The gentleman at the counter was so enthusiastic and informative! It was awesome hearing him geek out over stuff with my boyfriend. After we geeked out over everything, we ordered a brisket plate with a side of coleslaw and beans. Food came out pretty fast. They don't have a dining area inside, but out back they have some picnic tables. He dug into his plate on site. Everything was pretty darn good, especially for a place called 'The Gas Station' hah. Recommend checking out this spot whether you looking for a bite or looking for some cool horror stuff.

I couldn't finish all of it lol. I also had the brisket which was super yummy! They have two bbq sauces- a regular and a ghost pepper one. I only tried the regular but my friends like the ghost pepper one. The sides were ok... I would opt for potato salad. Chili was meh. Overall not a bad experience. Food came out quick and the outdoor patio out back is nice enough, a lot of flies though.
