I've been here 3 times. It's very expensive so I only go once in a great while. The food is good. Today, we split a slab of ribs and 2 sides. Also 2 pieces of corn bread and 2 fountain drinks. It came to almost $45. My fiancé left a $9 tip. Keep in mind it's not full service. You order at the counter. We needed to get 2 points potato salad to go, that came to $16. I've gotten it before. The potato salad usually comes to the top of the pint. I opened them and neither one of them were to the top. The pic is the worst one. It looks like someone already took some out. I asked the kid if he could fill it up more and he said it's supposed to be that way. No more tips for them!!! read more

Really damn good option for fast food BBQ. I was pleasantly surprised to see a nice stack of pecan wood outside the restaurant. As everyone knows, when it comes to BBQ, If there's no wood, it's no good! Well, Billy's is good! The meats I had were all nicely smoked, the pork was particularly good, lots of nice pieces of bark. Very happy with the sides as well. The staff was great too. I went on a truly chaotic night, Billy Sims was there to meet customers and sign autographs for the people. My first time here was last week. I live in Pontiac and never saw this restaurant before, must be new? Anyhow my son ordered chicken tenders and fries. I ordered a crispy chicken salad. Then we ordered deep fried pickles. Everything was amazing! The staff was very friendly, the lobby and bathrooms were clean, the tile is beautiful and it was just relaxing to be there. WOW, WOW,WOW. Oh my God Becky great BBQ is back. I absolutely love this place. We have been there once before and now it is our go to place for BBQ. I have even had ribs in Oklahoma City they can't hold a candle to what I experienced today. They have lunch specials with 2 meat choices, side and drink for only 12.99 and a sandwich combo for only 7.99. Derrick ordered the pulled pork and sausage with potato salad and coleslaw. I ordered him a side of Mac and cheese as well. He devoured the loaded potato salad and said it was a perfect 10. It is no wonder the owners went to culinary school and it shows. I went all out and ordered the ribs, 1/2 slab I barely could get through part of them. We took some home even!! They were the best I have ever had and that is saying something. I love ribs. The ribs were so tender and completely fell off the bone and the sauce was excellent. The staff is top notch and they do catering. I ate the food so fast I couldn't even get a picture of it. The pulled pork sandwich was so good. The heavily buttered and warm bread makes the sandwich melt in your mouth. The side of mac and cheese that comes with it is the perfect side. Billy Sims is SO good. read more

This Billy Sims location always has friendly staff and tasty food! We only have done takeout, but every time has been satisfying. I am not much of a pork person, so I usually make a meal out of side dishes, but I can never resist a couple ribs. The ribs are tender and juicy and don't need sauce for moisture, only as extra flavor! I also enjoy their mac and cheese. I always have to add salt and pepper, but I prefer that over it being made overly salted/peppered. Overall, we have had only positive experiences with Billy Sims, and will be returning whenever the BBQ craving strikes! read more

I've rarely ever had BBQ where I didn't like everything I tried, so I had high hopes based off Pauly and Bill's reviews but the Boomer-Q (as they call it here) fell way short. I had to try a little of everything they were offering so I ordered the two meats combo for my girl and the three meat Silverdome combo for myself. She had the chicken and the pulled pork with mac n' cheese and the Billy Beans and I had the polish sausage, pulled pork and chopped brisket...they were out of turkey yesterday. I also tried the mac n' cheese and the coleslaw. I liked: The chicken was tender and juicy and had a nice smoky flavor to it. The pulled pork was OK enough but it could've been juicier and a little fattier....my girl liked it a lot. Their baked Billy Beans were really meaty and they had great flavor. The coleslaw was solid too. The polish sausage sounded like it was a better choice after reading the reviews of their hot link...it was a solid choice. The complimentary pickles and onions were fresh and tasty. Lastly the caramel brownie, it had a graham cracker crust with fudgy browniness going on and then caramel drizzle on top....worth trying for sure....get two. What I didn't like: The mac n' cheese was less than stellar ending with some kind of off taste...really sub-par. The Texas Toast they serve wasn't really toasted as much it was buttered and warmed through, so you may want to ask for it fully toasted if that's your thing. The "chopped" brisket was dry and stringy and more like a pulled beef. It had a strange texture and not much flavor even with the sauce added. The pepperoncinis that came with the pickle and onions tasted soapy and weird and I didn't really care for either of the sauces offered but if I had to I'd lean towards the original sauce if I came back...I didn't get any heat from the hot BBQ sauce. For a quick grab-and-go type BBQ joint this isn't terrible but it's a far cry from places like Lockhart's that go over and above to make the BBQ experience more traditional and tasty. That said, you'll pay a premium here...our tab was $33 and change and while we did try a lot off the menu the quality wasn't up to snuff. 2.5 stars read more

The place is fast casual, and has a nice variety of menu items to choose from. Pork, chicken and beef are all on the menu, and they have a nice selective variety of side items. Some of the side items were green beans, baked beans, coleslaw, Texas toast and I think one or two other items. I personally went with the brisket sandwich, and they offer it either sliced or shredded (but the menu says cubed The staff here is super friendly and helpful. Loved the wonderful friendly service! The brisket itself was good, but didn't have much flavor or taste to it. It was sort of dry as well. I was not completely turned off by it, but it just wasn't what I consider to be great. Plus, they don't put any BBQ sauce on it, which normally would be fine, but I'm used to BBQ coming tossed some form of sauce before they serve it to me. They have BBQ sauce at the table, but you have to squirt it on yourself, which normally isn't a problem, but I would have rather them prepared it behind the counter then me continuously squirting BBQ sauce all over the place. I will say the prices, menu selection and staff were awesome. I'm willing to give this place another shot, and come here again. I also love the fact that it's by a former Detroit Lions player, which shows the reinvestment in the city of Detroit and the suburbs by opening a restaurant here in metro Detroit. read more

Just some simple, great bbq! At the time of this post Dave (owner) uses pecan wood for all his smoking. The sides are all great. I don't even know what side is my favorite. I personally recommend the chopped brisket. Staff are all so warm and friendly. Dave obviously loves what he does and he treats my two year old daughter like a princess. I'll admit I'm very picky about bbq sauces. In my opinion there are only about three places with solid sauces. Billy Sims is definitely one of those three with the spicy sauce being my favorite. One thing I must mention is if you order pork or chopped brisket they always put a dash of extra seasoning as they plate it. If you want it without extra seasoning you need to tell them to skip it (as I do). My family go there very regularly read more

Ordered food last minute for dinner on Memorial Day, and the food was absolutely amazing. I personally HATE ribs, but my boyfriend and mother love them so I succumbed and ordered two orders worth. To my surprise, they were the best ribs I've ever eaten. The meat literally fell off the bone and was tender. They ribs are very thick too so a lot of meat. I'm so happy with the food, the brisket is to die for, the Mac and cheese is creamy, and the ribs were out of this world. They ALSO hooked it up with insane amounts of side bbq sauces. I honestly don't see why this place has such good reviews. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the ribs were pretty good - they were really tender and flavorful. Everything else was so DRY!!!!! I ordered in for Mother's Day and we ordered pulled pork, brisket, sausage, green beans, macaroni and cheese, baked potato salad, and chicken (family of 6). I have two older boys + my husband who normally goes back for seconds for everything, and nobody wanted anymore. The sides were super basic and the meats were just so dry. Ok, since my first review about a month ago, I've been back several times. I've ordered the ribs 3 times and they have been consistently outstanding each time. The chicken is also definitely worth a go - very tender and tasty. A friend tried the turkey and really liked it - I didn't get to try that though - next time. The pulled pork gets the same compliment as the ribs - very consistent - good smoke flavor (not too strong) with great flavor. Location owner Dave and his staff have proven to be very friendly and welcoming. Hopefully that attitude is maintained. Last Saturday I heard the cashiers having a friendly conversation on the amount of brownies that had sold during the day - more than they ever had. So, that created some curiosity. We ordered two for carry out - one was wrapped up nice and tight for us so it'd be good for the next day, the other was devoured after we got home. Not to sound too positive - but we loved the brownie. It's got chunks of chocolate and is super soft and more than a little rich. One was definitely enough for two to share and indulge. read more
