We were driving through Romeo and I saw the name. I friend of mine kept posting on FB. So we gave it a try. The Poutine with brisket was amazing. My daughter had the Shepherds pie with brisket. That was everyone's favorite. The only complaint I think the dinner should come with corn bread. We are full and happy we I'll come back. read more

This was my 2nd try at Jayells. I didn't post the 1st time hoping it was just an off day. It wasn't apparently. 1st time I tried the Burnt Ends. I don't think it was from brisket point. (the only thing burnt ends can be made of) they were flavorless and chewy. Tough. No smoke flavor either. 2nd time was the Brisket Burrito. I found it to be bland and flavorless. The mix of ingredients didn't give a desireable flavor profile. I didn't like the "dry slaw"? Whatever that is. It was all through the burrito. I picked out some of the most flavorless brisket pieces I have ever tasted to eat and threw the rest away. Also, what kind of BBQ joint serves tortilla chips with the BBQ? None that I know of. Make up your mind. Do you want to be a BBQ restaurant or a Mexican restaurant. I'm probably done trying Jayells and I cannot recommend them. read more

Overall good BBQ. Not the best we have had but everything was flavored pretty well. Everything could use a little more smoke to it but all was tender. The space is really clean, but a little on the small side so you may be waiting for a bit during busier times. Stopped in for lunch at around 2pm on a Saturday and waited for about 10 minutes for a party of four. A good sign though; people want to be here, right? Our server was friendly and attentive and did a really nice job considering how busy it was. Ordered the candied bacon for an app, and the two meat sampler w/ smoked turkey, sliced brisket, mac and cheese and the corn bread bake. The candied bacon was really good; thick cut and seemed to be of a really good quality. I fork and knifed it as there were no wet naps provided. The only complaint was it was a little under done and could have been a bit crisper. This is a good way to sample sauces while you wait for your main. I always go for smoked turkey if it's on the menu and both that and the brisket were really well done here. Not terribly moist, but not dry either, but tender and delicious. A decent smoke flavor without being overwhelming and the cuts of brisket weren't all fat. Highly enjoyable and enhanced w/ the house sauces. The peach habanero was really nice. The corn bread bake was mashed up corn bread served in a small bowl rather than being an actual slice, and it was nice and sweet and moist. The mac and cheese on the other hand, while hot and creamy, was completely bland. It looked great and was piping hot, but tasted like absolutely nothing. We overheard the server telling a nearby table that they were out of bacon for the day, so it sounds like it's pretty popular and runs out pretty quick. Again, we were here around 2pm, so if you want candied bacon, get here early I suppose. Avoid the mac and cheese as well... get any other side. That was disappointing given that there's an upcharge for it as a side for the meat samplers. I teetered on a three or four star rating, but ended up w/ four since most everything was enjoyable and the menu prices are on point. It was only $17 for the two meats, which is reasonable, so I can look beyond the undercooked bacon and bland mac and cheese as the meal was a decent value. read more

All I can say is amazing!!! There are very few meals that I dream about but Jayells burrito is a game changer. With each bite you are transported closer to joy...dump some Alabama Sauce on that and friend you have arrived at happiness. Excellent BBQ smokehouse restaurant. Delicious unique house made sauces, one sauce is made with Faygo. One of our favorite sauces was white. Tender smoked beef brisket. Flavorful seasoned rib tips. Cole slaw is tangy and delicious-not the usual boring stuff. Fries are seasoned. Our friends loved the smoked chicken tacos. They are generous with the portions and sides. I did takeout and discovered later that a lot of things were not included in my order. My friend ordered the Brisket Sandwich Combo which is supposed to include red onions and jalapeño slices. There wasn't any cheese or onions in the sandwich. The brisket meat was good but she asked why there was nothing in her sandwich besides meat. The combo came with a side of Smoked Mac N Cheese, but we could not eat it as there were no napkins or utensils included in our takeout bag. I was hoping to order some Burnt Ends, but they already ran out by 2:30 pm. I ordered the Everything Burrito, which has pretty much everything on the menu in it - pulled pork, red onions, slaw, beans, macaroni, sausage, and brisket. It was a unique kind of burrito I never had before. It was fine, but despite the ton of stuff in it, there was a lack of flavor. I prefer a traditional burrito with rice, cheese, and vegetables. I tasted some of the brisket meat and thought it was good. If I return I'd only order plain meat with sides rather than the sandwiches or burritos. The service was fine. I would give a higher rating but it's unacceptable to not add any toppings onto a sandwich nor include wet wipes, napkins, and utensils. read more

I've gotten carryout from Jayell's a few years back before they moved to new location. I must say, their smoked meats are the closest I've had to real Texas BBQ. As far as their special sauces, non of them really stood out for me; some were thick, some runny, some sweet, some tangy, but combined together it made a pretty tasty sauce. I shared burnt ends and had half a brisket sandwich, very good, but about 2 hours later I felt sick and bloated. I think it was just a bit too greasy and fatty this time. Server Riley was very attentive. Ambiance was okay, except for all those TVs. Will try again. read more

The wings are delicious but your menu says served with ranch or blue cheese and you charged me an extra $.75 for ranch. Taco Tuesday is $9.00 so maybe a menu update . Everything else was good, brisket for the $2.00 up charge was on dry side which is not the norm. I did question the ranch charge and was told there was no charge but it was $11.25 and said .75 cents. First off, its been a long time coming! Great update to the take out down the road. The restaurant has a relaxing feel that fits a Friday night or a Sunday afternoon. Once you are in, the next dilemma starts... what to eat? So many choices that are winners! Turkey, Brisket, Pork Chicken all great. Try any of the sandwiches and you wont go wrong. The secret gems on the menu are bbq pork eggrolls, cornbread bake, and the pit beans Whatever your tastes you will be sure to find something to fill want! We've been going to Jayell for years and they have been one of our favorite BBQ places to frequent. Recently we stopped in for our first time in their new location on Main Street and sorry to say we were very disappointed. The brisket and pulled pork were good but that's where it stopped on this visit. All but one of their sauces which were always very flavorful were lacking flavor big time, almost as if they were watered down or something. The baked beans still very good tasting was either very over cooked or reheated leftovers as they were exceptionally dry. The cornbread bake was always a favorite of ours as it used to be a smooth and creamy corn pudding style and oh so good but now it was simply an extremely dry crumbled up piece of corn bread in a bowl, we exchanged it for a good tasting but slightly cold side of mac and cheese. As the manager strolled by (never stopping) he asked how everything was and as I started to say that we have always liked Jayell for their food, he kind of butted in with "For the continued increasing flavor and quality". When I replied that I thought just the opposite and told him of the sauces being a bit weak and the very disappointing corn bread bake he said he would go talk to Dave in the kitchen. Upon his return from the kitchen (again strolling by and never stopping to actually talk with us) his excuse for the cornbread was that it was a supply chain issue and not being able to get certain ingredients. I thought that to be a pretty lame excuse for something as simple as a corn pudding recipe. A dry crumbled up piece of cornbread vs a moist corn pudding style type of cornbread bake...a supply chain issue...sorry...a bit hard to believe... We will be back as we're hoping this to be simply an off day for the kitchen. In the meantime, K- Blocks BBQ is just down the street, they're food is quite tasty... read more

My boyfriend and I finally got around to Jayell BBQ Smoke House and the only regrets we have is not going sooner! I have followed Jayell BBQ on Facebook for a couple months now. Daily specials, photos and more is frequently posted and everything has looked so delicious. It was only a matter of time before I was able to taste it all for myself! The building is in a plaza but sort of hard to find if you are unfamiliar to the area. Just follow the smells! When my boyfriend and I entered the white building, we were hit with a bunch of smokey BBQ smells that immediately made my mouth water. At that point I honestly just wanted to try the whole menu! Smelled so delicious! We split a three meat combo, which came with two sides and a pop. Perfectly reasonable for $20! We went with ribs, brisket and pulled pork for the meats. Baked Beans, and smoked Mac N Cheese for the sides. They don't carry fountain pop but have a nice variety of bottled soda and faygo cans. I was craving ribs and the three meat combo came with three huge bones. They have two rubs for ribs at the time (sweet apple and wild boar) We chose wild boar and it was a perfect chipotle seasoning. Fall off the bone ribs! The brisket and pulled pork was insanely awesome. A lot of BBQ places have their meats so dried out that they are really chewy and fatty. Not Jayell! The meats were perfectly smoked and far from fatty. Very tender! None of their meats come with sauce on them and we chose a peach habanero sauce. I couldn't get enough of it. It's one of those things where you wanna lick the whole container. As for the sides, we couldn't get enough of them. The smoked Mac n cheese definitely hit the spot. They use five different cheeses over penne noodles and then smoked with hickory wood. Yum! I'm not a baked bean person but Jayell Smokehouse changed that for me. They use several different types of beans, red onion, jalapeños, few different peppers, brown sugar, honey whiskey and jalapeño BBQ sauce. Perfect mix of sweet and spicy. There's a small counter you can eat at or take it to go. It's mostly a carryout place and we knew that before we came here. In addition to carryout, they also do catering. They also make their own rubs and sauces. You can purchase them at their carryout location or purchase them online in their online store. Service was exceptional! The guy at the counter I imagined was the owner and we let him know it was our first time there and he helped us order and told us all about Jayell Smokehouse BBQ. Large portions. We had enough for two meals each. We can't wait to go back! Took us two months to come here but I can promise you it won't take us two months to come back. read more

We just moved here from Houston TX. We thought we would never find good bbq again. We walked into Jayells and we were blown away! We order the burnt ends, the chili and. 2 meat meal, pulled chicken and pulled pork. We essentially tried all the meats and they were all 10/10. The custom sauces were amazing too! And there was a great beer/cider selection. We talked to the owner Dave and the bartender Brandon, they were both great to talk to. Food and beer menus are fantastic; the bartender can answer ALL your questions about both. "Industrial" style interior and seating outside shielded from the sun by breathable nylon type awnings. Had dinner here on a spur of the moment night out. The food was beyond delicious. My husband and I split the brisket tacos and the fiesta chicken tacos. The smoky flavors and sauces were so good. Our friends and the entrees of chicken and brisket with the baked beans side and the corn bread side. Both chicken and brisket were tender and again, delicious. The baked beans were a huge hit. Cocktails with Faygo accents were enjoyed by the ladies. The recommended smash burgers were best I've had in Romeo. More cocktails after dinner and place was packed and people waiting when we left. The first time I had Jayell BBQ was at a catered event. It was so good I ended up having them cater one of my daughters grad parties. Is they have a place open and it's a regular stop for awesome food either to go or on their patio. All the meats are very good. I'm a big fan of both the brisket and the home made sausage. Their hand made sauces are really top notch and I keep a couple bottles at home at all times. The beans have a serious heavy hand of smoked pork In them, and I can't bring enough smoked Mac and cheese home to keep the family happy whenever I come here. Come eat here.
