We ordered as delivery for group of 6 and it didn't go well. The brisket was so fatty that nobody would eat it out of 6 people. The pulled chicken large container had some kind of liquid or juice that filled half the container-I couldn't eat it-never seen that before and not sure if it is supposed to be almost like soup with lots of chicken juice. The beans were actually really good though. I tried calling but it seems they are too busy to answer the phone on Father's Day-all good. Having been in the food and service industry quite a bit when I was younger, I remember one chef constantly pounded in our minds about making sure the food we send out doesn't end up with him saying "I can't believe we let that leave the kitchen" --that's what I heard when I looked at both tubs of meat $60/ea. It seems weird because I think the last time we orders from here it was good. Prob not going to "spin the wheel" again on $200+ of delivery food...Bummer. I think City BBQ used to be off Big Beaver and moved here. Or, maybe it's a second location, I can't tell. Either way, they have really good BBQ for a decent price. I came in and ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of fries and a drink and it cost about $17 and change. Place is clean, well decorated and the staff here seems to be nice and well organized. They have a variety of items to choose from, but I don't eat pork so that limits what I get. The brisket was good and filling but I forgot to asked for it chopped. Oh well, maybe next time. Overall a great experience and it's easy to find from the road. read more

Review #505 Monday, 12/30/2024 My review is based on a Box Lunch Sandwich with 2 sides that I enjoyed eating at home from a Christmas work luncheon catered on Monday 12/16/2024 from City Barbeque. The Management company ordered many flavors of City's famous tender meats such as pulled pork, brisket, chicken and black bean burger, along with 2 sides to complete the combo lunch boxes. My sandwich was 1/4# pulled pork that was in a foam cup plain so I added City Barbeque famous sauce to mix together. A large soft roll and container of pickles topped off my half of a sandwich. (Ate other half for dinner) My two sides was a cup of creamy Mac and Cheese and a cornbread loaf with honey package. The lunch sandwich was delicious with tender pork meat too. The sauce was tasty and satisfying with 3 crunchy Pickles. I added honey to the Cornbread which was fantastic! Oh My Deeeelicious on their creamy Mac and Cheese Cup. Photos all are attached. I hadn't been to City Barbecue in quite a long time - since before they moved to this location, when they used to be in a plaza on Big Beaver. I'm still in their e-club though, And recently they've been sending me a lot of deals, including this week, when they sent me a free two meat, two side plate, which was too much to resist, so I stopped by for lunch today. They have curbside which was excellent. When I pulled up, I clicked a button on my phone, on their website, and my food came out very quickly. I believe they also offer this on their app. I ordered brisket, which normally is a $3 upcharge; pulled pork; hush puppies; and corn pudding. It also comes with Texas toast. The brisket was really, really good and a lot better than I had remembered. The pulled pork was decent but did have a lot of fatty pieces, which is not my preference. The hush puppies were also very good, which I remembered from the last time I did take out, but the corn pudding was a little more mushy than I would like. Overall they've made me a new fan and I will stop by this location again when I'm in the area. They also have a drive-thru, which is super convenient. I don't remember what was there before but my guess is it was a fast food place. read more

Staff gets A+ for friendliness. But they forgot my ribs. Food was not good. The only thing I liked was the sweet tea and the beef brisket that they gave to me on accident. The toast was dry and had no garlic on it. My ribs I couldn't even bite through the chicken was creamy looking and like I said I enjoyed the sweet tea. I don't think I would ever go back. read more

Holy. Moly. First of all, let me start off by applauding the GM Ed. First impressions are important and he went above and beyond. He recommended sides and even gave us a free sample since we were torn between a few. The place was so clean and you could tell that they pay special attention to keeping it that way! My mom and I both got the pulled pork and brisket. She got baked beans and Mac and I got potato salad and Mac. The best Mac I've had from a restaurant!!! The brisket was falling apart and melted in our mouth. The pulled pork was seasoned to perfection. Neither of us got ANY fatty pieces. We told Ed that we didn't know they had peach cobbler and he brought out free samples!! With homemade whip cream that I could have just eaten on its own. Place is nice inside and out, sauces all tasted good service was good and the dining room was clean. As for the food it's a no for me. The pulled pork was a no, the brisket was decent, Texas sausage tasted like Italian sausage (you could taste the fennel in it) the only way I could eat it was drenched in sauce, Mac n Cheese nope, baked beans was a yes, coleslaw no thank you. I decided to stop in for the first time today as I was super hungry and completely opposed to patronizing the usual suspects (Panera, BK, Taco Bell, McDonald's, Jimmy John's, etc.). I'm so glad I did! The food was pretty good and the quick, yet attentive service was even better! By the way -- shout out to that amazing person holding down the drive-thru; you made my day! I got the half bird combo with corn pudding, baked beans w/ brisket, and paid for an additional side of creamy coleslaw. The chicken was flavorful, tender, and juicy. The corn pudding was good enough to make me come back a few times a week. The beans were pretty damn decent (I prefer a sweeter baked bean; these were bbq sauce-based and smoky...and yes I ate them all). I did not care for the coleslaw, but it wasn't bad either; it was just missing a hint of sweetness. I did not eat it all. I also had the banana pudding. *insert drool here* Don't even question it; JUST GET IT!!!!! Overall, it was a great meal. To me, the portions were substantial as I had enough to eat lunch and dinner, and the prices were what you should expect them to be in this inflated post-pandemic world. We couldn't wait for this new location to open... we've always loved city Barbeque over any other , including Slows Detroit. The minute we get out of our car, the smell of smoke instantly makes me hungry. Terrific experience! We decided to have lunch at City Barbeque yesterday. From the moment we walked in the restaurant, things couldnt have gone better. We were immediately welcomed by the GM Ed, who asked if this was our first time. Since it was, he explained the menu to us, asked our favorites and was extremely helpful. Our order was ready quickly, everything was plated very nice, was hot and fresh! Ed even gave us samples of the item we had never had before. The brisket was some of the best I've ever had. It was lean, well smoked, juicy and very flavorful. They know how to smoke! The pulled pork was also very good. The mac and cheese was delicious as was the peach cobbler. The portions were very generous, we even had leftovers to take home. The staff were all super friendly, the restaurant including the bathroom was very clean, bright and well stocked. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. If youre in the area - stop in and meet Ed and his staff - you wont be disappointed! read more
