    Awful Roast Pork
    Christal P.

This was some of the worst roast pork I've ever tasted. The skin wasn't crispy, the meat was dry, and the fat was gelatinous. I threw most of it away. They should be embarrassed to sell such low quality meat. For crunchy pork go to Edamame Sushi in the same John R Square Plaza for its lechon plate.

Came all the way out to Detroit for Zhang BBQ. Was it a bit disappointed to be honest. I tried the bbq pork and the roast pork. The cuts that I got were on the skinnier side, so they didn't hit the spot. The skin on the pork also wasn't crispy. The staff were nice though. I would give them another try when I'm in the neighborhood again.

    Roast duck (partially eaten) $17.70

Amazing. I have been scouting out this place for years and finally stopped in. Everything I hoped it would be. Got half a roasted duck for $17.70 . Tons of food. I have ordered half duck before from local places and have never received this much food. Also mostly meat not just bones. Went in at 6 pm and they still had pork . Did not try the pork but will next time for sure! Very delicious and a great value . Wished I lived closer because it hard to find a good BBQ-only place.

This place smells like heaven. So, you walk in and you see some ducks hanging by their necks with their heads still attached and their feet (or the feet of their cousins) simmering below. I suppose this may not sound appetitzing, but it is. The crispy delicious duck skin, underneath a layer of fat, served with duck drippings. Enough to put you into a duck coma. But the pig... my first love. The neon red is probably a warning color "DO NOT EAT" but it smells so good -- how could you not? They give it to you with a small container of soy sauce to cut the sweetness. This place probably shouldn't pass a health inspection. The meats are not refrigerated or hot. But honestly, I don't care. I'll die for this stuff. If this was my last meal before hemorrhaging my insides out, I'm totally OK with that. This is what you do: Go in, order 1/2 of a duck, 1 pound of bright red barbecued pork. The total should be roughly $17. The man will chop it up into bits for you and pack it up. You pay CASH. You walk out, and not so secretly stuff yourself in the car with these goodies. This is enough for 2 people with leftovers. They have other things like chickens, stewed feet, tripe, duck innards (?) and pig ears. -1 star for no seating and the fact I'll probably end up paying for this adventure later *CASH ONLY* PS - on the sign it says Zhang's BBQ on the street side sign it says Cheung's BBQ -- let's just say go towards the thing that says BBQ.

How does China Bar-B-Que compare to other asian BBQ's, they fell short. The glass case, hanging duck, pig intestines, and bbq pork, are all present to give you the full effect, but it still has to deliver on flavor. I tried the bbq pork and it really didn't compare to other asian bbq places. The pork was dry and lacked the strong bbq flavor usually present. Maybe I caught it on an off day and I'll have to try it again to see if they deliver the same uneventful, dry, and disappointing bbq pork.

    Whole roasts pork

If you have never been to a Chinese BBQ place before, do not judge this book by it's cover! When you walk into this little gem, all you see are various types of meat hanging behind glass - many still whole and intact. You walk up to the small counter and order your meat by the pound. The pork is good, but the duck is really where I think they stand out. Depending on what you order (for example the whole roast pork) you can specify if you would like with or without fat. Then take your meat home and enjoy! I don't know if I've ever seen a place like this outside of a major city before, so this is another find that gets a bump in the stars because in this area it is best you can get. Definitely come try it out, it is well worth it and you won't be disappointed.

Box o bbq roast pork! Added to fried rice for a yummy meal.

There is likely better barbecue in the area. Each meat varied heavily in quality, so they will be rated individually below. I ordered the Pitmaster's Platter, which included multiple samples of the meats. Meats Beef Brisket (2/5): For some reason, this brisket was extremely dry. There was no moisture between the meat fibers. When doing the brisket bend test over a finger, the brisket barely even moved. The bark had the texture of jerky. I would not recommend this meat option. Pulled Pork (3/5): The pulled pork was moist in some places and dry in others. This meat was extremely average. There were some parts of the pulled pork with a heavy smoke flavor, which I did appreciate. Pulled Chicken (2/5): This was just as dry as the brisket. There were small portions that did have some moisture, but I could not finish the dry portions. Cheddar Jalapeno Sausage (4/5): This meat was the best among the options. Incredibly juicy, heavy on the seasoning, and the cheese was oozing out of the sausage. If I were to come back, I would order this again. Ribs (2/5): Again, just as dry as the other meats. There was no pull, and the meat was tough on the outside. Sides Mac & Cheese (3/5): This macaroni and cheese was nothing special, despite other reviews raving about it. It is a standard mac and cheese with slightly soggy breadcrumbs on top. Coleslaw (5/5): Somehow, this was the best part of the meal. The coleslaw tasted extremely fresh. There was just enough sauce to coat the vegetables without taking away from their quality and crunch. The coleslaw being the best part of the meal says a lot about this establishment. I do not think I will be coming back here again.

At each table gloves, chopsticks, hand sanitizer, plastic straws, and plastic utensils were provided. Which is such a thoughtful touch. The fried chicken was SUPER juicy and tender with a cornflake fried batter covered in chosen sauces. There were so many flavor options to choose from, which made it fun to decide. The pieces were huge, so the price felt completely worth it. The servers were especially kind and patient with us as first-timers. They took the time to explain the most popular flavors and gave great recommendations, which we really appreciated. The only downside were the sides. The onion rings and fries didn't seem to have any seasoning. So, they tasted a bit plain compared to the bold, flavorful chicken. I'd definitely come back for the chicken alone. If you're craving crispy, juicy fried chicken with tons of flavor options, this is a spot worth trying!

The staff of both establishments are friendly and polite. I recommend going on a Wednesday, which is when BBQ tacos are a special. I've tried 3 of those, most of the meats, and all the sides. The tacos I've had are beef brisket, pig belly burnt ends, and pulled pork. Of those, the burnt ends taco was the best, but all 3 were great. If you came here just for the tacos, I wouldn't blame you at all. As for the meats, I truthfully don't have a favorite, because they were all that good. The ribs were juicy and tender. The brisket looked and tasted just right. I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The meatloaf was unlike any I've ever had. It was incredibly tender and had a great, smoky flavor. Although pastrami is beef, it tasted like a very well seasoned ham. Most places I've gotten burnt ends from dry them out, but that is not the case here whatsoever. The pulled pork was standard compared to the rest of the meats, but still better than average. None of the sides disappoint. The beans appear runny, but were delicious. The mac had a generous amount of cheese, and wasn't dry either. I've only had collard greens a couple times, but I found it enjoyable. The potatoes were delightful, but what took them to the next level was the toum it was served with. Toum is a Lebanese garlic sauce. The slaw was creamy and flavorful. Blueberry cornbread is something I've never seen on a BBQ menu before. Both that and the pickles tasted as they were advertised. Smoked Lotus blew me away, and I'll even go as far as saying it's my new favorite, local spot for BBQ. Even the pricing is fair, especially for the quality you're getting. If you love BBQ and haven't been here yet, you're missing out.

Walking into Detroit 75 Kitchen in Madison Heights for a quick lunch, my expectations were high!…read moreFrom a visual standpoint, the food looks simply irresistible on social. Before I even got to the food, the restaurant itself made a great first impression. The property is incredibly well maintained inside and out. There's a spacious outdoor patio for Michigan summer days, along with plenty of indoor seating ranging from communal tables for larger groups to individual booths if you're flying solo. It's a thoughtfully designed space that feels welcoming no matter why you're there. Now, let's talk about the food. I'll admit something that surprised me. I've been to Detroit probably 50 times, and I honestly can't remember ever hearing about a Detroit-style cheesesteak. Judging by the walls covered in awards and accolades, though, it's clearly something they're known for. The sandwich certainly sounds like a winner on paper: ribeye and sirloin, provolone and Swiss cheeses, roasted mushrooms and peppers, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickled jalapeños, aioli, house-made vinaigrette, all served on a freshly baked sesame roll. I mean... what's not to love? Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a turn. The ingredients themselves are good. The flavors are there. The problem is the execution. The ratios are simply off. The freshly baked roll completely dominates the sandwich, overwhelming everything inside it. The steak gets lost between all that bread, and instead of each bite showcasing the beef, cheese, and vegetables working together, the bread becomes the star--and that's not what you want from a cheesesteak. I do want to give credit where it's due. The portions are generous, and I especially appreciated that they take the time to make their own dipping sauces for the fries. Little details like that don't go unnoticed. There are plenty of positives here, and it's easy to see why Detroit 75 Kitchen has earned such a loyal following. But as someone who takes sandwiches seriously, I think this one is technically flawed. A great sandwich is all about balance, and for me, this one never found it. I genuinely wanted to love it. This sandwich lover just couldn't get behind the way it was built.
