I had one of those moments today that instantly turns into a problem you have to solve fast. Around 2:00 PM my wife called me while I was at work and said, "You're not going to believe what I just did." She tried opening a soda can with her Pontiac key... and snapped the key in half. The problem was she didn't get off work until 5:00 PM, which gave me less than three hours to somehow get her a working replacement key before she was stranded. To make things worse, it was one of those chipped transponder keys that aren't exactly easy to replace on short notice. I took the two broken pieces over to Bill's Locksmith in Hemet and met Charles, the owner. Charles told me he didn't have the replacement chipped key in stock, but instead of turning me away, he carefully used the broken pieces to cut me a new key anyway. Since the original transponder chip was still needed to start the car, he explained that if I kept the broken chip portion next to the newly cut key, the car should still recognize it and start. And it worked. If you look at the photo, you can actually see my temporary solution -- I literally used white duct tape to attach the transponder portion to the new key Charles made for me so my wife could safely use it for the next few days until the replacement key arrives. Here's the part that really impressed me: When I asked Charles what I owed him, he said, "Nothing." That kind of kindness is rare these days. Most businesses spend thousands on advertising trying to earn customer loyalty. Charles earned mine with a simple act of helping somebody out when they were in a bind. I asked him if he had a website, and he told me he had no interest in one. So I figured I'd leave this review instead. Charles didn't ask me to write this. I'm writing it because good people deserve recognition, and Bill's Locksmith in Hemet treated me the way businesses used to treat people years ago. Thank you again, Charles. read more

Stop by to have keys made for my 1995 Dodge Ram truck. The gentleman that helped me was very knowledgeable and got the cuts right the first time. Each key worked perfectly. I was in a desperate situation this morning and Im so happy I called this place. I went outside to throw some trash out and my 2 year old, who's been discovering she can lock doors lately, actually locked me out. Of course I was freaking out and frantic, thank God I had my phone in my pocket I called the first company I googled which happened to be Bills locksmith. They were super polite and sympathetic to my plight and said they would be there in 15 to 20; minutes. My husband called around to get prices for some one to come out to install a deadbolt on his office door. Bills had the best price, so he came out the next day. My husband decided he wanted 2 deadbolts installed and Charles said it was still the same price. I had a new door handle that needed to be put on my hubby's new remodeled bathroom, and Charles was happy to put it on, still the same price. He also banged out the bathroom door jam because it was sticking when opening and closing. I didn't ask him to do that, he just did it lol. Called Bill's lock smith this morning asking for their services, they picked up my call promptly and provided me with other locksmiths number since they were not able to assist me right away. Unfortunately the other locksmiths also wasn't able to assist me so I called Bill's locksmiths again and they provided me with an ETA which wasn't even that long of a wait. I decided to wait for them. Charlie arrived within the time frame given and was very pleasant and professional. I needed to change my home lock, and I scheduled their service. Charlie provided excellent service and is a thorough professional.

I went to this business on Saturday, 6-25-11, to get duplicates of 4 keys. A man and woman helped me, but they did not have the blanks to make any of the keys. They offered to order the blanks for me on Monday and have them for me on Wednesday. I told them that would be fine, as I was heading out of town on Friday. Despite promising to call on Wed, they never did. They also did not call on Thurs. Undeterred, on Friday morning, I stopped in to get my keys made before heading out of town. This time another employee was there, a young man with long hair. This employee was much less courteous than the other employees had been and seemed put out by my presence in the shop. He told me that he did not have my blanks and, in fact, had not even placed the order! He explained that the company saves up all blank orders until they have one hundred dollar's worth, so they don't have to pay a shipping fee for the order. I told him what had been promised to me by the other couple. He did not seem to care and just said that the couple should have told me the order would not be placed for months. I left in disgust and drove a few blocks away to Desert Lock and Safe. They had all the blanks in stock and made my keys on the spot. A lesson learned... I'll never step foot back in Bill's. read more

Charles is 12/10 Customer service!! I had lost my Keys for my Dodge challenger and buying a spare and reprogramming requires the original copy. I called up dodge and they were going to charge me 400$ for a key fob and required me to bring my car that i had no keys too.... I call up this lock shop and Charles came to my house programmed my car and gave me 2 keys and programmed the spare key i bought from amazon. I recently moved into a new home. It was a flip, and I only received 1 key for 1 lock in the whole home when I moved in (no mailbox key other). So I called around to a few locksmiths, and was shocked by the pricing - MAN that's an expensive service!! Anyway, because of the cost, and because I didn't know which of the community mailboxes was mine, I wound up procrastinated on getting the locks re-keyed and - as was only fitting - managed to lock myself out of the house. Well OK - looked like my hand was forced, so I started calling locksmiths. The "re-entry" fee was even more expensive than a normal service visit, but I figured it would work out if I just had everything done at once. Next problem: it was 4:30pm and most Hemet locksmiths started charging a penalty at 5pm. UGH! So I finally called Bill's Locksmith (which is actually owned by Charlie), and he was willing to come out and do the service with no added fees, and re-key the whole house. So I schedule the call, and then as luck would have it I managed to get back into my house :) Charlie seemed happy for me, and seemed to have no qualms with losing a $200 service call, so I decided to use them to re-key the house. Only now, I had the bright idea that I could two locks in to him (for about $20 - $8 for a key, and $12 to change a lock core) and have keys made which might match all the other locks. Good for me - not so good for Bill's. So I did that, and Charlie happily provided the service. Except then, while he was doing it I realized that there were probably 1000 copies of the keys to my house circulating from previous owners and so forth. OOPS. (Yes, this was not my finest two-day stretch intellectually. All I can say is that I was a new homeowner who was tired and distracted). Soooooooo.... time to schedule that service visit after all. In the end, I had Charlie come out to re-key all of the locks. While at my home he provided great and timely service, communicated well, and didn't even charge me for the work he'd done in his shop (which should have been about $20, and which by all rights he could have, since it was my fault for trying to be cheap in the first place lol). I'd highly recommend this shop for their understanding, competence and willingness to provide service at times that other locksmiths in the area would not without an extra fee :) read more
