An update concerning the "Biki app": When I first discovered Biki, I utilized the original Biki branded app. Then one day, I couldn't access my account. I called the business office, and they explained the change. If you have--or want to open an account with Biki, the app you need is called "PBSC". (See photo.) Once you download the PBSC app, you tap on the tab (left-hand side) and select a bike share service (in this case Biki). I can imagine all the good business reasons why Biki (and a lot of other bike share programs) have subscribed to this service, rather than maintain their own IT system. My complaint is that the changeover wasn't communicated well.

Most stations "say" they have bikes but often there are 1-2 that don't work.

I'm so sad this company has gone downhill. They can't seem to maintain bikes. Actually where are all the bikes? I included a picture, I've never seen the stations so low. On the map it shows most stations have 0-3 bikes. You can't rely on those stations cause you get there and they are broken :| When I plan to use biki there's a 50/50 chance it goes according to plan and after realizing it makes me more angry and frustrated than serving me I won't be Re-upping my membership after this round. I''m sad cause this is a great business for the community especially with bike lanes expanding but it honestly appears they are failing as a business/something's not right.

There are some critical reviews of Biki but my expectations were low and I really appreciate the convenience. It's usually pretty easy to find a Biki station. I quickly learned to check that the tires are properly inflated before I disengage the bike from its base. With adjustable seat height, a basket on the handlebars, a comfortable riding position, and a 3-speed internal gear hub, the bikes are more than adequate for the purpose. Okay, the brakes could be better but these are still fun rides. Do other cities with these rental systems do a better job? Mostly, yeah. Would I want to be without Biki in Waikiki? Heck, no.

Novel idea for locals and tourists to bike around Honolulu and not have to find parking for busy spots in Waikiki, Kakaako, Ala Moana, and Ward areas. Took a spin on the bikes while I was home on vacation and enjoyed bar hopping and brewery hopping in Ward and Kakaako. Helpful hints: -Download the Biki app at home in or in wifi -Sign up for monthly $15 pass if you plan to bike for a few hours- you only need about 6 (30 min) rides to break even - Dock bike every 30 mins even if you have the pass-otherwise you'll be charged an extra ride ($3.67) currently. -Makes sure you hear the click and mechanical lock of the bike to the station to prevent docking trouble which will lead to more fees -Scan the maps ahead of time to carve a path for yourself on your ride so you don't exceed the 30 mins

Charged for a ride I didn't take, couldn't purchase a pass or unlock a bike. Worst bike rental experience I have had.

Book the Hawaiian Foodie Bike Tour!…read more My wife and I recently rode this tour w guide Kelly Beck and had a delicious and filling time. Location: mainly Kapahulu Ave. and Monsarrat Ave., we often rode on the sidewalk which felt awkward to me but was safer than riding w busy traffic. Parking: we met our guide in the parking lot of Kapiolani Park, near the zoo, along Kapahulu Ave. Free parking and away from the crowds. Our guide: Kelly Beck. He was great - friendly, enthusiastic, and informative. He used a wireless speaker system, he had the microphone on his shirt and each of us had a wireless speaker attached to the handlebars of our bikes. We've been on other bike tours that didn't use this tech, using it enabled us to easily hear what he was saying as he led us. He's a former endurance athlete but the tour was easy - flat and low speed w frequent stops. Gear: - city bikes w multiple gears, fenders, good brakes, and clean. Each had a pouch in front to store stuff. - he supplied us w 3 large bottles of water, more than enough. - helmets: we previously told them I need an XL helmet for my big head and they remembered, it was a clean comfortably fitting helmet. This is where we went: -Diamond Head Market & Grill, Monsarrat Ave., *good, so good we returned for dinner: - miso ginger salmon, wasabi ahi, good sauce -South Shore Grill, was closed, fish tacos -ARS Cafe, coffee shop/food, we took a look inside -Rainbow Drive-In, just looked -Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts, literally thousands of Aloha shirts, the racks were stuffed! -Da Ono: good lunch of lau lau, haupia, ube -Ono Seafood: we shared a small portion of poke (we had high expectations for this place but the poke was so-so) -Wailoa Shave Ice for a shave ice for each of us. -Leonard's! We each had a malasada, freshly fried and warm, yum. We rode through the the neighborhood on our return to the parking lot. Kelly gave us commentary on the houses, real estate, trees/plants, and the local customs and news. We're glad we booked this tour.

He was so kind to help my older mom, a beginner on a bike become comfortable and confident. He even asked people to move for her on the bike trail as she was wobbly and nervous. It's obvious the restaurants know and love him as well as his customers. I admit I am a food snob and the food choices were mind blowing- I mean just superb. But his history lessons, jovial personality and the fact that he altered the distance for my mom is just so considerate. Thank you Kelly.

Was difficult to find at first since I was at baggage claim 26 (Delta), and the security told me to "just cross the street and take the elevator to the 4th floor in parking". Which left me on the fourth floor of parking with no rail in sight and no signs directing me to the rail (this would've been helpful). I simply guessed to turn left and walk across the parking lot with luggage and finally found it. Everyone was super helpful. Rail was clean, fast and efficient. Hoopili lot was safe and clean. Will be nice when they extend to Ala Moana. An extension to Kamakana would be great too.

HART = Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation…read more I rode the route between Halawa / Aloha Stadium (Station 9) and Kualaka'i / East Kapolei (Station 1). The elapsed time was about 22min one way--so 44min round trip. I visit Honolulu regularly. I observed with interest as the "Skyline Rail" system was erected--and I read about all of the hiccups that have occurred along the way. Now that Section 1 of the system is operational, I wanted to ride it. I went to an ABC Store and purchased a HOLO card. The "Visitor" version of this mass transit pass is designed for tourists. An adult pass cost less than $10; it is good for one day; and it allows you unlimited access the city's light rail and public bus system for the day. I parked my car at the Park-and-Ride lot at Aloha Stadium and boarded the Skyline. It's interesting that this train does not have a driver on board. It's basically automated, with remote monitoring. There are public safety representatives patrolling each station, and riding the cars, to make sure things go smoothly. The cars have luggage racks; and racks so that people can bring their bikes/e-bikes, scooters--and surfboards. The seats are built for durability but are comfortable. The ride was smooth. The speaker system for announcements was clearly audible. The cars have air-con. This light rail is comparable to systems I rode in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur--and those systems have been widely accepted. So why would I (a tourist) want to ride the Skyline? There is the curiosity factor of wanting to try something while it is new. But in the same way that the Las Vegas Strip is not Las Vegas, Waikiki is not Honolulu. Looking out the window while riding the Skyline allowed me a glimpse of life outside the tourist zone. And you can see a lot from the elevated train. In addition to suburbs, shopping centers and industrial parks: Between Stations One and Four, you can see a lot of agricultural activity; and the interface as new housing developments encroach on ag lands. You can see a new type of faming taking hold: solar farms. Between Station Eight and Nine, you can see portions of Pearl Harbor, the ships in port, and The Pearl Harbor National Monument in the distance. Think of this like the Waikiki Trolly Hop-On-Hop-Off Tour bus; you're just taking a different tour. I look forward to trying Sections Two and Three. P.S. As the City of Honolulu seems to be taking over the Biki bikeshare system, I suggest that they install Biki bike racks at Skyline Rail stations, where feasible.
