Terrible customer service. My husband was looking for a new bike and received a written deal for a Giant model with specific specs. On the day we went to pick it up, we also decided to buy a bike for me. After trying several options, I finally chose one. All seemed good--until they brought out my husband's bike, which turned out to have completely different specs than what was originally offered. We began discussing alternatives with the salesperson, and my husband started trying other models. Suddenly, the salesperson walked off to the parking lot because a friend of his had arrived. They came inside, but instead of continuing to help us, the salesperson turned his full attention to his friends and completely ignored us, it wasn't just a moment, it was at least 15-20 min, So we left. Thankfully, we then went to a store in Whitby where the experience was completely different. We were warmly welcomed, given clear explanations of so many options, and ended up purchasing two bikes very quickly. That's how customer service should be. read more

This place is so great! The staff are so friendly, kind and helpful. I came here with three bikes which all had different issues. One employee, Div came out to my car, helped me unload all my bikes and assessed each one for me on the spot. It turns out that 2 bikes needed tube replacements and one just needed the chain but the back one & the seat adjusted. He helped me with one bike right away, and I was able to take it home right after. The other two bikes that needed tube replacements needed to stay in their show for 24hrs for the repair. When I came back the next day, my two bikes were ready to go and pumped full of air. I really appreciated the fact that they made the repairs and let the bikes sit for a couple of hours to make sure they didn't deflate. For the two tube replacements with labour, the cost was about $63. Overall I had such a great experience, and I'll definitely be back for any future repairs! Terrible customer service. They have a good selection - and that's it. I bought a Bianchi racing bike there a few years ago and the service was nothing special compared to the other bike store I bought from frequently (Silent Sports in Thornhill). I took my bike to Bike Depot the other day for a tune up and was told to go over to their service counter. There were three guys there working on bikes who ignored me. Then there was a worker at the counter fixated on his computer screen who didn't acknowledge that i was even there. They were not overly busy but no one paid me any attention. After 10 minutes of this nonsense I took my bike back to my car. Absolutely terrible service. read more

They built a semi-custom road bike, that can also be ridden on gravel, for me in the middle of the pandemic. It is the best road machine that I have ever ridden! The service department is top-self. Having been an avid cyclist in the past, I've always loved that there were local bike shops where you could talk to the staff who were just as enthusiastic about the sport/gear as you. BCS is somewhere in between that local shop and Canadian Tire, if you can imagine that. This was our second visit to BCS since moving out east (I used to frequent Silent Sports) and albeit being somewhat crammed and disorganized, I like BCS for what it is. A good little local shop. The staff are friendly but somewhat stand-offish when you ask for advice on gear which I find a little odd. We went in looking for a front mount child's bike seat (ibert) and an infant bike helmet. Having called a day ahead to check on availability of the seat, I knew that they would have the seat in stock and since I was told the seat was $140, that's what I expected to pay. We spent some time looking at the infant helmets and checked out the seat and when we went to pay for the merchandise, we were told that the seat was $160. I was a little put off by this but you can chalk it up to someone's honest mistake. We were also looking for a new bike to accommodate the child seat and we received no help with this from the staff. With a tired babe in arms, we did not have the patience to wait longer than 15 minutes for someone to help us, we ended up leaving without a bike. Sure, I'll probably revisit BCS to check out their sale in June but for now, I'll hop on over to Pedal Performance and see how they stack up. read more

Visited the Pickering store today. I'm used to the fine, friendly service I used to get under the previous ownership at that location. I wandered around the store looking at the merchandise for over 15 minutes and none of the salespeople approached me - not even to say hello. None of them were with another customer. I guess I didn't fit the demographic or look like a profitable customer! I left the store. I'm a boomer, I have money and I was looking at ebikes. Your loss. I bought my last mountain bike from Bay Cycle, but I'm sad to say I likely won't be back. read more

Been racing motorcross since 1977 pro since 1980 retired in 2010 after Lorreta Lynns. Started MTB riding this year and love it. Went to bike Depot to puchase 4 Chain ring fasteners. Handed the chain ring and the spider to the salesman along with the fastener that I wanted to replace. Off he went spoke with the technician and returned with the fasteners, I pay and leave. When I get home and try to mount the chain ring I find that they had sold me the short fastener 5mm and 6mm where the one I gave them was 7mm and 9mm. I return and the "technician!!!" looks at my fastener listens to what I say takes the treaded male bolt and goes to try to find the correct size. When he returns with the parts box I say the the short female is the issue and he says "that does not matter, this is the size!" I said that for sure it does thats why i'm back, look this is bigger. He then shoved the box saying "thats what we have." I tossed the bolts I had brought the day before into their parts saying you are supposed to be a technician, I then left. Beware people, I would not let him blow up your tires !!! read more

In September 2012 I came to them with my old mountain bike which was in pretty beat up shape. They gave it to me straight... that the bike was going to need $200 worth of repair, and maybe another $100 the following year..... so with that, they helped me to get a new bike... because clearly it was the logical choice. I thought about it overnight, and the next day I was back in the store. I picked out a very nice 26" NORCO bike with off road tread, as I was buying it mostly to ride in Haliburton Forest. I also bought some accessories to go with it, including safety gear like a new helmet, bell, etc. The sales staff were friendly, and even helped me get the bike onto the carrier rack on the back of my van. read more

I've bought three bikes from Bay Cycle over the past four years, and each time I've been thoroughly impressed with the service and selection. Today I picked up my new 2016 Norco XFR 3, a replacement for my previous BCS purchase that was stolen from the GO station. Working in the retail industry, I have a clear idea of what good customer service is, and from the time that I arrived, Daniel provided the single best service I've ever received from any store I've ever been to. When I wasn't quite sure what I had or what I wanted, he explained in detail the attributes of the various brands and bicycle types they carry, and suggested several that he thought were a good match, along with some other types for good measure. I test-rode six bikes in their crumbly parking lot loop, which provided a fair assessment of ride and smoothness, mechanics, and general handling; he was bang-on with his suggestions. When some of the showroom models were out of tune/alignment, he went the extra mile and performed the quickest tuneup in history just so I could get a feel for the gear system on one of them. When the seat didn't go high enough for me, he swapped the seat post out for a longer one for me to try. When it came time to purchase all new accessories, he threw in a water bottle holder and bell, and gave me 15% off everything else I wanted. They tuned everything up and installed all my accessories for free, and I got a free year's worth of tuneups (which I have done there multiple times per year, and are always excellent). The bike was a little above MSRP, and some accessories were a little pricey, but 11/10 service and very timely too. Support your local bike shop! read more

I purchased a mountain bike from Bike Depot in Pickering July 2017. This summer, I took it to another location for servicing and warranty work. They could not figure out what the problem was and after the 3rd failed attempt to fix it, they sent me back to the Pickering location to figure it out. Needless to say, I was getting frustrated with all the back and forth, but am extremely happy with the outcome. The guys at the Pickering location quickly figured out what the issue was and took care of it. The bike is now working like new. These guys really took the time to diagnose & resolve the problem correctly so I wouldn't have to return again! They were incredibly professionally and competent! read more
