No answering machine or voicemail on the number. I can't remember when I saw someone actually in the store. Gone to the door during business hours multiple times and there is never anyone in the shop and the doors are locked. Last bike shop in Gilroy and, at least for me and my attempts, it is never open for business. I don't drive by everyday, but now I think I need to just to satisfy my curiosity. read more

Have yet to see the final work for a pretty hefty bike tuneup $charge. I jot this as I am waiting with my daughter after attempt#2 today outside the shop on a summer evening. Found similar problems with open hours during another recent visit for bike tubes. Despite the waiting outside the doors on 3x instances during open hours and the $hefty bill, i kinda knew my answer but I requested a discount. Owner did not budge. I understand his position but that is not the way I would encourage future business. The owner is very knowledgeable and skilled in his trade. For future bike purchases I will travel further to search for another shop or try to schedule an appointment. read more

Wanted a mountain bike for my son. Didn't want to spend a ton, he didn't have anything new for less than $600. But he had a used bike that was just fine, and in reasonable shape. He offered a good price and I bought it. Gave a slight $10 discount, then said debit card transactions have a $10 fee. WTH? Anyways... read more

Thought it was time this business got an updated review. I'm a 23-year-old college student who has biked pretty much everywhere, almost every day, for the entire summer. I first came into this bike shop to get a kickstand for my bike: a 25-year-old hand-me-down from my mom. I walked into the shop mainly because it was only a few stores down from where I worked at the time, so I didn't know what to expect, but the guy seemed very friendly and very knowledgeable about my bike, and he installed the stand for me while I ran down to the coffee shop down the street. (Although later that month I had to readjust it slightly for stability because it got a little loose.) He even refilled my tires as a little bonus. Today I went into the shop again because my tires were getting really bald, and I felt like I'd gotten good service from this shop the previous time. The guy who worked there, Ro, was really helpful and told me exactly which kind of tires would be best suited for both my bike and the purpose I needed it for, which I really appreciated, because apparently my old tires were the wrong fit for my bike and my riding needs. He also was very nice when I asked about prices for other things I was planning to update on my bike in the future. Again, he installed both my bike tires in about half an hour while I ran down to the coffee shop, and when I came back, he told me he'd also replaced the inner lining of my front tire (which helps protect the inner tube from damage from the spokes). It was an unforeseen expense, though thankfully it was only $5 for that. The only downside for me was that as a student, it was pretty costly to pay for the kickstand, the two tires, and a front light/blinker (my old reflector had broken off), as all of those added up to about $140. The $12 service fee for installing each tire was also a little pricey for me, but seeing as I bike an average of 6 to 10 miles a day at least 3 days a week, having the tires installed properly was worth it. Also, the 2011 review here seems a little out of place, as Ro was nothing but polite and efficient and knowledgeable while I was there. read more

Shop owner Roman is a quiet person. He is very knowledgeable in his field. Honest and very helpful. Great service....he tells you like it is, no sugar-coating you to buy. You asked questions he'll answer. I wouldn't go anywhere else but Bike Center! I had my bike tune-up there and it is done perfectly. This shop sucks! It shouldnt even be considered a bike shop! I didnt bring my Chain checker in but Id bet anyone anytime that if we put it on half the bikes they sell the chains would be all stretched out to at least .75 mm of stretch per 6 inches.Time warp back to the 80's! I can't even comprehend how this place stays in Business. Has merchandise that's looks like its been on the shelf for 25 years with fade marks and dust to support my hypothesis. A pair of 20+ year old crochet gloves were full price $29.95. Straight out of the move "RAD" with out getting any new merch since. I've never been in a bike shop and couldn't wait to get out of there. I think their speacialty is Skate Boards, BMX and bikes for Homeless people. read more

I can see where previous reviews could be accurate, but my experience was good. The owner might not be the most social person, but he was to the point and had the bike my son wanted in stock (and it's not an outdated model). He double checked everything on the bike, added the accessories my son asked for, handled the financial transaction and thanked me for my business in a professional manner all in less than 35 minutes. I've never written a yelp review but today I decided I really needed to write one. The Bike Center is a couple blocks down from where I work. I've gone down there a few times and had some nice chats with the owner about bikes and things. He's a nice guy and I liked the wide open feeling at the store. Well, a few weeks ago I came in lamenting the fact that I was constantly getting flat tires on my rides up and down Monterey Road. He agreed and said "Its a battle" out there which I thought was pretty funny. He dropped everything he was doing and put a new tube and tire on my bike. The rate was very reasonable. He also took time to adjust the wheel because it was out of round. I was impressed by what a quick and precise bike mechanic he was. He said he likes doing stuff by feel and by hand. Thats how he replaced my tire and tube. All by hand with no screw drivers, etc. But the main reason I wanted to write this review was because of what happened last week. I gave a quick call because I was out of bike patches and told him I was frustrated with the cheap patches I'd gotten at Walmart. We discussed the ins and outs of bike patches. I told him I'd be by shortly to pick up some good patches. He said "No worries man, Im just leaving the shop "(it was getting to be closing time). "I'll bring some by where you work !" That blew me away. Sure enough I went out to the sidewalk and he came riding up "on his bike" with a fresh set of patches. I said I'll go get my wallet. He said "Don't worry man just come by when you get a chance and pay me. A couple days later I stopped by and paid him. I just think its pretty special when a small business owner really gives a hoot about his customers. Too often the get slammed for trivial reasons and by people with nothing to do but act like "trolls". I just think that if everyone acted like the guy that owns "The Bike Center" the world would be a better place for sure. I don't remember his name but I hope he sees this. I told him I really appreciate his helpfulness but I think in his case it merits more than just a thank you and a hand shake. All I know is as long as he's there thats my bike shop ! read more
