Delicious. Only complaint would be that I wish they gave you a knife. I had the brisket with sides of Mac and cheese and collards. BF had ribs and sides of blue cheese coleslaw and baked beans. The brisket had a really great flavor, not overly smoky, but good, definitely not tender enough to cut with a fork which is where the knife woulda come in real handy. Collards were phenomenal. Super tender and seasoned perfectly. The Mac and cheese was alright. Real cheese which was appreciated but grainy, lacking in flavor and over cooked pasta. Ribs were great. Really juicy and smoked perfectly. Slaw was delicious. Baked beans were a little sweet for me personally but that may just be me. The star of the meal were the sauces. This place is the BOMB.COM. Think micro beer shop and BBQ merged into a tiny shop of goodness. I am a self-proclaimed BBQ & Mac n cheese connoisseur. Being from Wilson, NC, BBQ had to be done right for me to enjoy. Let me tell you, Brew n que did not disappoint. I had the pulled pork BBQ platter with Mac n cheese and my husband got the brisket platter with potato salad. Both came with corn bread. We ate everything. Pulled pork- not a skimpy portion, it was filling and hearty and their vinegar sauce complimented it very well. Mac n cheese- I didn't really like it. Only thing that keeps me from giving me this place a 5. Corn bread- crumbly and so good. Brisket- My husband said, and I quote "it was the best brisket ever". I tried it and don't disagree. Very generous portion. Brisket had a perfect pink smoke ring along the inside of a well-charred crust. Wonderful smoked flavor throughout. Potato salad- this is the real star of the sides at this place. The potatoes are literally cubed and are sooooo cheesy. As soon as this went in my mouth the flavor exploded and it melted in my mouth. I ate at BnQ last year and I thought it was good, but not great. Went back last week, and was blown away. Their wings are absolutely incredible and their ribs were also fantastic. The way the pork is plated does tend to make the pork go cold pretty fast though, and cold pork isn't the best experience. The only other unfortunate part of the dining experience was how small the space was - where you're pretty much bumping into everyone standing near the bar or trying to get to the bathroom. There's only one bathroom as well, so it's not the most relaxing/enjoyable experience. However, the pork was really tasty and I'm wondering/hoping the owner(s) will venture into other sauces or rubs - perhaps a spicy one. A very friendly, enjoyable little place! Emphasis on the "little" - I was surprised by how small it is, and it feels like an old-fashioned diner with its open kitchen and long bar/counter. They must prepare their food before customers come because it was maybe 3 minutes between when I placed my order and when the food came out. I was really impressed by their brisket, which was very tender and flavorful. (I saved half my portion for a sandwich.) The tangy red tomato-based BBQ sauce was a perfect complement to it. I was very pleasantly surprised by the cornbread, which was rich in flavor but not at all sweet (cornbread with so much sugar that it may as well be called corn cake is a pet peeve of mine) and the kale slaw - really more like a vinaigrette salad than a slaw, and very similar to something I make often at home - was refreshing and a good accompaniment to the meat. Perhaps best of all, they carry Brood soda! I couldn't resist drinking a Wolf with dinner. Two main things keep this from being a 5-star: first, like others have said, they could afford to tighten up their mac and cheese. My main issue with it was that the noodles were well overcooked. That can be kind of hard to control, especially when you're clearly cooking in big batches, but a firmer noodle would've gone a long way. Second, it's way more expensive than I thought it'd be. Granted, I didn't have to get the mac and cheese or the soda but including tax and tip (although I'm a fairly liberal tipper) it came out to $28 for just me. Oof. At my favorite BBQ place in the Triangle, Bare Bones, the same amount of food is under or just at $20. I didn't know what I was getting myself into, but am so glad I passed this way. The good people of North Carolina are attractive, and smart, and really have good taste. During one of my 40 weeks on the road this year I found myself in Cary longing for a sense of home. In an location I would not have expected, Brew N Que came to my attention, and seemed interesting enough to drive the 20 minutes away from the hotel. For those not familiar with the history of Barbecue, and I am not an expert, it starts on the American east coast. Here is the longest history of the flavors of vinegar and jerk slow cooked into meats. As you travel west the types of meats used, the flavors added, and the debate over dry rub and wet sauces start to evolve the American pallet. Intertwined with this is the advancement of the rail roads and train yards where pork, cattle, chicken combine in St. Louis. I have had great barbeque in Austin, in St. Louis, in Memphis and now Cary North Carolina. Brew N Que has some tasty and interesting beverages on tap. It makes for a slow and easy evening to talk with neighbors. The sandwich I has was monstrous in size, big and creamy in taste. The Big Cheesy combines this smooth Mac and Cheese, BBQ meats, sweet pickles, and pimento for an added zip. It was delicious. Yummm, I can even taste it now as I write. This is a sandwich, remind you. This is all on bread. Enough to make two meals. It was recommended I try it with the vinegar sweet sauce.... I didn't think it could get better... but I was wrong. This elevated the flavors here to a new level without overwhelming the senses. While I did not have room, I did make way for the Banana Pudding which was just an added bliss of sweetness. Literally the best bbq I've had so far in NC. Went today with my girlfriend for dinner and was very happy to hear it was burnt ends day. I ended up getting a burnt ends plate and she got a two meet plate with the chopped chicken and the burnt ends. We both got the mac n cheese and she got the collards and I got their seasonal vegetable which was honey Sriracha brussel sprouts. First the burnt ends: I think it's great that they make it a special a couple nights a week to cut down on waste. They save it from the brisket they normally smoke and smoke it again to make it extra tender. Very good and with their bbq sauce it was a mouthful of fatty goodness. The chicken was very tender but not too moist that it was a weird mouth feel. Their sauce is just so good. Spicy and sweet and vinegary-- everything a carolina bbq sauce should be. The collards were well cooked and didn't taste like dirt. Just clean and tasty. The Mac and cheese was soooooo good. Very creamy and cheesy and not too overpowering for the meal. And the brussel sprouts were good too. The service was amazing and we felt very welcomed and it felt like our server really enjoyed his job. Just tried the new Apex location and not disappointed! Same great food and brews in a convenient new location. The meats are magical and the three sauces are unique and yet I always manage to enjoy each during a typical meal. This time I added the Banana Pudding afraid I would find it typical fare, but it is literally the best I have ever had. I am from Texas but will be back to see family often, and this will be a bonus. I still would definitely recommend Brew N Que simply because the food quality, vibe and the fact that it's a nice local business. I've had high expectations about this place because of the Yelp reviews and the unique menu items (i.e. Redneck Nachos, Piggy Mac, BBQ Tacos, etc), and my expectations were blown away! I'm tempted to give this more than 4 stars but I gotta try more of the menu. All I can say is this is the best BBQ I've had so far in Wake County. I ended up going with the basic pork plate with smoked potato salad and blue cheese slaw. I was skeptical of the pork because its chopped instead of pulled...I was way off. The pork is amazing, and has a great crust and rich smokey flavor. The Vinegar BBQ, Eastern Sweet and Tangy, and Hot Sauce are all great and unique. You can't go wrong with the sauces, go with whatever your preference is and you won't be disappointed. On top of the killer BBQ the sides are amazing, and to me that's what makes a BBQ place great. The Blue Cheese Cole Slaw is the perfect contrast to smoked pork and BBQ sauce, especially on a sandwich. The Smoked Potato Salad was a incredible spin to the standard side. It tasted like a cross between fried and baked potatoes made into a potato salad with chedder cheese, how can that be bad? On top of the great food the service is great and the owner even brought our table out a pimento cheese snack with fresh baked bread to tide us over until we got our lunches. The pimento cheese is top notch and how can fresh baked bread even be bad (from Great Harvest Bread Co next door). Big Mike's is one of the few food trucks that comes near my workplace every now and then. I wish more would come into Wake County! Luckily, I was able to get away from work before they called it a day. You can find out where they'll be on their website--they have a Google calendar widget, so it's easy! I kind of like it better than following someone on twitter (but that's probably more of a personal thing). Since it was my first time going there, I asked Mike if I could get a tray that had a little bit of everything they offered, so I could get a taste of it all. He most graciously obliged and I went back to my office with a nice heavy tray of goods. I have to say that my favorite was the pork and the blue cheese cole slaw. Delicious! Also, they have a "stupid hot" sauce, and if you know me at all, you know I'm pretty stupid about my hot sauce =P It was great. Of course, I had leftovers, so my husband was able to try out Big Mike's goods as well and loved his beans and all the bbq with the sweet and tangy sauce. My husband was super excited to learn this opened near our house and kept bugging me to go there. We packed up the toddler and headed there a few Saturdays ago...and didn't see a high chair anywhere in the place. Boo. So eating there wouldn't happen that day because we need a restraining device for our wiggly spawn. The next weekend we grabbed it to go and ate at the house. Holy smokes (pun intended). I'm not a big chopped/pulled barbecue fan. I mean, I like it, but I'm not in love with it. Brew N Que's barbecue didn't make that change, but it was pretty darn good. The baked beans were delicious, and the mac n' cheese was pretty awesome. What was REALLY awesome? Surprisingly, the chicken wings. Those babies were some of the best I've had, and I've had a ton. They're made with what seems like a simple sugar, salt, and pepper concoction, and the end result is something amazingly wonderful. My husband and I ended up arguing over who got the last one. I really want to go order a whole bunch more every week, but the price tag at $1 a pop is a tad steep for that. While we didn't eat there, my husband was really enthused about the craft beer selection and has been talking about how he wants this to be his "guys hangout". I have eaten at Big Mike's BBQ food truck a few times now. That big red barn is the height of amusing and attractive. Pulled pork: There were all the hallmarks of BBQ excellence: it was pulled into just-less-than bite size chunks but I could still see a great bark and smoke ring, it was tender but toothsome, there was a just-right amount of flavor from the seasonings and smoke but in truth the flavor and texture were amazing because it was really high quality meat that had been cooked properly. There is no rub or sauce in the world that can make up for that, these folks buy the recently departed well loved pigs and put the work in and you can taste it. Potato Salad: If there is only 1 side you get at Big Mike's make it the smoked potato salad! For the first time in a long time I was actually stumped by how someone made a dish. (Maybe it's magic. It could be magic. Maybe there are Big Mike BBQ fairies. Smokey ones.) It is so creamy, savory, herby, the potatoes have a perfect texture...the end result is sort of like a good mexican mole: you stop tasting the individual components and can only taste an overwhelmingly delicious dish that is so good and so unlike whatever you've had before that it redefines the dish. REDEFINES. Yeah I'm shouting that at you so make sure you get some. Burnt Ends: Bike Mike very graciously advised me to email him ahead of time to make sure I could get some of these since I wouldn't be able to get out for lunch until late. He came through, there was a burnt end sandwich waiting for me. So I open the box and see this delicious well charred brontosaurus sized slab of burnt ends, wrapped in home made bacon (seriously I want to buy 5 pounds of it. Maybe he'll sell it to me if I pay in gold nuggets, it's worth it). It was so pretty I wanted to cry. Took a huge bite and made sure to get a little bit of everyting: the insanely delicious bacon, the ubercharred small flap of fat, and a hunk of the flavor bomb smoked meat. Best. Meatgasm. Ever. Miraculous Multiple Meatgasms. When the boyfriend and I were together noming all these goodies he tried to take a bite of this and I actually snarled at him. Now, burnt ends aren't for everyone...they do require a bit more chewing and the intense flavor can be offputting for the less adventurous. Sort of like how some people are happy eating marshmallows out of a bag and some people can only eat a marshmallow that's been skwered, properly softened over a hardwood campfire, charred, then lit aflame and carried around like the torch of Prometheus until the outside layer is ashes and the insides are molten lava. If you ever did the later at Girl Scout/Boy Scout camp then you have earned your burnt end badge and there is no better place to get it than Big Mike's. Pulled chicken: some of the best I've ever had, again the smoke and seasoning was really great but the meat was clearly top quality and well handled. Went great with the sweet sauce. Along with a side it's the perfect size for a hearty lunch. My boyfriend ate most of this since I was too busy having an out of body moment with the burnt end sandwhich. The dude would drink sriracha sauce if I let him and he was very pleased with the stupid hot sauce on this chicken as well. Cole slaw: super crispy fresh veggies, well dressed and well seasoned, all you could ask for. I'm actually allergic to blue cheese so I haven't been able to try the blue cheese dressing on the coleslaw or the redneck nachos but I've heard from some people at work that it is top notch, definitely give it a try. Bacon banana pudding: so, I really don't like bananas. Reaaaaaaalllly don't like them. The only time I have ever enjoyed banana pudding was from this friend in Virginia who is a true southern lady. She makes it all from scratch and I swear it's like she laid out a pan of cream, bananas and nilla wafer cookies then squeezed angels over it until they popped. But this comes really close, especially with the aforementioned it's-so-good-I-would-rob-a-bank-to-get-it-and-no-jury-on-earth-would-convict-me bacon. Creamy, smooth, not too sweet, portioned and balanced just right. People always say 'it's made with love' but in this dish in particular you could taste it. The bacon makes it a great twist on the classic. So if you've read all the way down to here you have some serious fortitude. You're going to need it because you should be eating roughly your own body weight in BBQ from Bike Mike's. Being out of Apex I imagine they might start a point down with a lot of compeition coming out of Durham, but take the time to seek them out. It is TOTALLY worth it. If you see me in line and they've handed me a box with a burnt end sandwhich...well, just don't get your hands too close. The menu is small which is the right way to do it. You can see them prepping food before it reaches your table. We took bar seats and were welcomed by our hostess with information on the brews on tap. we could taste and select which was great since the brews were new for us. We ordered a Taco and Smoked Chicken salad burger. I loved my Taco. Pork was moist and tender and perfect with the coleslaw topping. But the star for me was Smoke Potato Salad. I've visited this truck several times - whether at local events in Apex or following Big Mike around the triangle, especially when in RTP. I have yet to be disappointed. The serving sizes are twice what I would expect at a food truck, and the prices are pretty common. Pork BBQ - I consider myself pretty blessed to have grown up in eastern NC eating some of the world's finest pork q. Big Mike does the style very proud, and it's maybe some of the juiciest pig I've ever eaten. Brisket - I admit I hadn't tried brisket before, but once I had this delectable treat from Big Mikes I went on the hunt for it at other places. Boy was I disappointed! Whatever Big Mike does to this keeps it moist and flavorful, both items missing from the half dozen other places I tried it. If you catch him at the right time, he may have burnt ends and might even wrap them in bacon for you. Whoa now! Blue Cheese Slaw - I seriously have not made my own slaw the same since I first had this. The blue cheese makes all of the difference - it adds just enough tang to tone down the sweetness. Amazing. Smoked Potato Salad - This stuff speaks for itself. Great smokey flavor, nice addition of shredded cheese on top. I heated this up accidentally once and loved it even more! My goodness, if it weren't for Yelp I would've never discovered the delicious wonder of this little establishment. They only have about 3 large wooden tables here and then their bar seating. They serve you in these large aluminum trays! The brisket here is ah-mazzzzing! It's incredibly tender and juicy. A must try at this place! And for the sides, the blue cheese cole slaw is one of the most unique and delicious cole slaws I've ever had (then again I'm a big blue cheese fan). The smoked sweet potato salad was a little delayed in coming out but it was fresh! It was a very interesting take on a "potato salad". This warm salad reminded of french fries! I don't know, it's just different but delicious! My BF and I were both intrigued by it but loved it. The collards are also a good side here. Also the beers they have on tap are all NC beers which was a nice touch, and they have a fairly large bottle selection on the back wall as well. Followed that up with The Big Cheesy and Chopped BBQ sandwich, while our daughter opted for the Chicken taco. Everything was delicious, but my Smoked Brisket was Outstanding. The portion size is in the words of Trump HUGE. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. It doesn't take long to feel at home in this place. I can become a regular real easy. Literally, the entire menu at least twice over. It's a 40-minute drive for us, usually fighting traffic coming from North Raleigh, and its well worth it. The smoked wings are crisp and packed with flavor -- hands down the best I've tasted. Brisket, pulled pork, and the chopped chicken also really stand out above competitors. Some pieces were chopped very good and then we got some brisket cuts, the pork is extremely fatty and the rub.. Not sure they put any sort of rub on it.. Very eh.. The slaws and collards were very good.. The collards had a little heat to them.. Nice job The sauces.. The hot sauce is just a wing sauce but the sweet and tangy was very good. People that work there are extremely pleasant and nice to chat with.. And no hush puppies... Really!!! read more

went back to this restaurant and had the beef brisket egg rolls oh my Lawd. That is one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Just wanted to add that...the mac & cheese wonderful as well. Service is great. We love this place! read more

I don't give out many five stars but couldn't really find much wrong here! We ordered the Piggy Mac which was creamy and decadent and covered in salt and vinegar chips which was interesting. When we ordered a meat and two sides, we were given the option of splitting the meats so we asked for pork and end brisket to give them both a try. The pork was tasty and there were three sauces we could choose from to moisten it further. The brisket was in large chunks with an amazing crust and super moist. The collards had a nice spice to them and the potato "salad" was a flavor explosion! My absolute 100% favorite tho was the $1 wing I tried. Super crispy and amazing flavor! No sauce needed! This place is consistently awesome featuring many delicious flavors in their menu and on tap! Huge selection of bottles, too. You gotta check this place out. I ordered the veggie platter $8 for three sides. I went with mac & cheese, collards, and kale slaw. The collards really stood out along with the barbeque sauces. Nothing but good to say about the BBQ Barn! I couldn't sample the full complement of what he smokes since we were sampling a number of trucks at Fullsteam, but from what I tasted he has got a good thing going and I would definitely consider him for catering! I had the brisket, which everyone at the table agreed was outstanding. The traditional sauce he serves is a little on the thin&sweet side for me, but it didn't really matter because the brisket is so good you can eat it with no condiment. But the star of his show (and the way you truly get to sample what he can do) is the Redneck Nachos. I figured that was what everyone was referring to when they talked about corn chips topped with smoked meat, topped with baked beans, topped with oh-my-good-god blue cheese slaw. In the words of Mater, "Holy SHOOT!" I will definitely be trying my best to recreate these at home some time in the near future. Pure, delicious enjoyment.
