Well i cam back tonight. Eli was my server and service was good just lime the Mac n cheese and my son's grilled cheese sandwich. I let Eli know my thoughts regarding our meal. What was not good was the brisket that I was served only barely warmer than room temp. Add to that it was tough as heck to chew and swallow. I want to love this place as I support local everything but damn how many chances do you give? BBQ should be hot and tender which mine wasnt. I'll say that I went to the apex location recently and had the same meal and the meat was tender,juicy,flavorful and actually hot. Im scared to post here as last time I posted a similar review on Facebook and everyone that's friends with the owner and staff blasted me publicly . I just thought that being served cold raw chicken was worth warning others about that time . The second we arrived the smell of BBQ had us. Taco Tuesday has $3 dollar pork and chicken tacos and $4 for brisket tacos. The blue cheese slaw on the tacos was so good. The smoked Gouda mac and cheese was good but a little chilly but the meat was good so overall we really enjoyed it! Big Mikes BBQ is a gem in Cary. I have frequented this joint for years and it never disappoints. The BBQ and the Beer is phenomenal but the service and the employees are even better. It really is the bar/restaurant where "everybody knows your name in town." It is a great place to go if you're looking to unwind and have a good time. NOTE: this review is for the big mikes RESTAURANT in apex, near or in? the beaver creek shopping center. went last night. we walked in and nobody acknowledged us. we finally got their attention and sat outside. we wanted to try the new tort based nachos, but they were out. the waitress didnt know that at first. this restaurant gives the STRONG impression that this is managements/owner first time attempting a resturant. most of the issues were funny, a little endearing, but when you factor in the price? it got kinda serious. Average bbq, not a great selection of sauce, no emphasis on spicy sauce (but thats a personal thing) and quite overpriced. The mac and cheese is average. not bad. not much salt or buttery flavor, so I guess its healthier, but not really what I care about when eating bbq. the house sauce is not really a mustard based sauce as I was expecting, but...basically mustard. not inspired, or even good. the red sauce wasnt bad though. the funny thing is they put it in a pop cap jar, so the cap kept getting in the way of the pour, and got your hand messy. I think they will learn a lot their first year, if theymake it. the soda fountain was misadjusted, so my kids drinks were gross. still charged us for them, but they drank water. I must say, in the middle of all this complaining, they have an amazing beer selection. obviously the focus of this place is on the beverages! wings were nice and fat, but as with everything else a little overpriced, and made me wish I was at aviator smokehouse. got a taco - one 6 inch flour tort w/approx 3 oz beef and a blob of average for 4.50. normally you get 3 tacos with a side at a typical mexican or bbq place, for 8.95 or so. had to order a side of beans, and got perhaps 4 to 5 oz of ok beans for 3.25. again, higher than comperable market for an ok product, not memorable. wings are normal price, but for 1.50 a piece, you can get any small number. I liked that idea, yes, expensive, but its ala carte, so..ok. lets see, what else. the burnt ends were a feature that night, but be carefull, if you order them, they raise the price of the menu item (mytaco) so you then have to ask about that, blah blah blah,the waitress was nice enough to adjust the check the 1.00. all in all, overpriced, undersmoked/underflavored and nothing that a made ANY of us say "wow we cant wait to go back" so,until the triangle gets it right, its back angier for the best bbq. read more

Our meals from Big Mike's is exactly the food we've been looking for in NC! We ordered every type of meat between the Big Mike's platter and the rib plate. The sides we chose were the collard greens and the Mac and cheese. The greens were some of the best I've had. To finish it off we got the banana pudding which was delicious. The first thing that jumped out at me was the Redneck Nachos--not a typical name for an appetizer. I can't see how that would make an African American guest comfortable in the restaurant. My coke came out tasting like syrup so I had to take a water instead. While they did have an interesting array of beer choices, I could not help but notice how cold my food was. The presentation of my food did not meet the expectations I had developed for a restaurant with such high ratings. My brisket was cold and dry and my smoked potato salad was also cold; so cold that the cheese was not melted. I had shredded cheese stings in my smoked potato salad which looked over cooked and had a mild taste of burned potatoes. The server did not bother to tell us what options we had regarding sauces/condiments for our meals, it just seemed like a total disconnect once our food was brought out. I felt so ashamed that I paid for my colleagues meal since I chose the restaurant. I told my classmates about this awful experience and I seriously doubt that I will dine at this restaurant ever again. It seems Brew and Que has loyal base but in good conscience, I could not continue to support such an establish with such poor food preparation and lack of genuine hospitality. read more

We recently had the food truck cater an event, and while the food was excellent they didn't bring much of the food that we ordered. This was a problem since we had several vegetarians who didn't end up being able to eat anything but slaw. They also didn't bring any non-alcoholic drinks, despite them telling us that they were going to. And since many of the people at the event were under 21... this was a problem. Then, when we called afterwards and complained, they claimed that they DID bring all of that food, when they clearly did not. We got a refund, but it was still very poor service. read more

Being from Texas you really have to go some to impress us with your bar-b-que. I am sorry to say that they didn't have any sauce that we really liked. We shared a big plate and then got a plate of chicken wings and had almost more than 3 of us could handle. My granddaughter loved the Mac 'n Cheese. I really liked the Sweet Potato Fries. The sandwich I ordered (the Big Cheesy w/ brisket) literally held me up against a wall and made me it's bitch. This food is almost too good to even speak about, I had to pause to take a shit halfway through my meal so I could keep eating. If you have an ounce of self-respect, go to Big Mikes. The food will fuck you raw in the best way possible, there may even be the chance of orgasm. Personally, I felt myself getting close toward the tail-end of the meal. Been here quite a few times now - I live right around the corner. Right off the bat, the pulled pork is excellent, and you can sauce it according to your preference (Eastern NC or other sauces). I'd definitely put it on par with some of the other top-notch pulled pork in the area (e.g., Clyde Cooper's). I haven't tried the brisket yet, because frankly I'm enjoying the pork too much, but folks I've gone with have told me that's great too. I don't know that you can go wrong on the meat. In terms of sides, I absolutely love their smoked potato salad. Incredible. Beans, mac and cheese, and corn bread are all very good but not mind-blowing. Slaw has been OK, in my opinion. Beer selection is pretty good, service is always on top of things, and it's nice that they have outdoor seating now. Can't go wrong here. read more

Came to the Cary location on a Thursday evening for dinner and didn't have to deal with a wait. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the BBQ chicken platter with potato salad and boyfriend had the BBQ pork platter with baked beans. The stand out item was the potato salad. It's non-traditional and really great. Baked beans were typical, nothing special. BBQ pork wasn't warm when it came to us which is the only real complaint. Each meal came with cornbread and honey butter. There were three BBQ sauces available at the table. A "hot," vinegar based and a more traditional. I heard a waitress mention "Alabama White" sauce to a member of the kitchen staff, would have liked to known if that was an option. Didn't order alcohol on this visit, but they appeared to have a good beer selection. We will come back, I'm sure. read more

We didn't get our beans or cornbread for one meal so I called and they immediately refunded me (we were too far from the restaurant to go back). I had a beer while I waited. Had smoked chicken wings and half a rack of ribs with kale slaw and Gouda cheese Mac n cheese. Chicken wings had a nice dry rub to it (sweet and peppery). The ribs were good and moist. Cheese was broken on the Mac and cheese sauce and the slaw was tangy and okay. It was more of a mini kale salad. The reason for the 4 star is because the smoke in the wings were not obvious and very feint. Prices were fair and they had a nice local beer selection which is a plus. read more

My first visit here and I'm not sure how they have such high reviews. I ordered the bbq platter with mac & cheese and a side of course bread. The bbq was good! The mac & cheese wasn't that great, average at best and the cornbread...... horrible! The cornbread wasn't sweet at all, the edges were semi-hard and tasteless. The service however was super fast for take out on a Wednesday. If I'm ever in the area again I definitely won't be back. As there are other bbq places in Cary that probably have overall good everything not just the meat. read more

Small quaint, very cute, nice music playing, you have to forget that Cary does have cute places, from the inside, just have to forget you are in a strip mall... LOL I started with the Vista Point IPA good, not as hoppy as I like, and a bit on the alcohol flavoring, almost barley wine tasting (difference between the 90 and 120 minute dogfish IPA). Bartender was nice, (Kyle) knowledgeable about all the food. I wanted to try everything, but I was really in the mood for a burger... so I went to the dark side and got a burger with pimento cheese on it (I have never done that... It's weird, unless you're from NC/SC, I think). Also, seems weird to get a burger at a BBQ place, but I had a craving... The burger was very juicy, and tasty, and cooked well (MR), a little messy with the pimento cheese, and I gotta say now that I tried it, probably won't be doing any pimento cheese any time soon, but southerners would probably enjoy. Anyway, I supplemented the burger with some wings because I heard they were among the best in town, and let me tell you, good wings are really hard to find in this area. However, I think that the wings in NC are just different, and people have different tastes. I really tried the wings because the bartender at Shuckin Shack said that they were some of the best. I liked the Shuckin Shack wings much better, however (sooo goooood I'll post later). The wings were the dry rub type, smoked and good flavor. I thought they were a little dry for my taste, and I am also addicted to hot buffalo, and the only flavoring they offered was the dry rub and a side of buffalo blue cheese (just as it sounds, but very mild). I ended the meal with a Jasmine Tea IPA, which was very floral, but not hoppy enough for me... oh well, gotta keep tabs on the beers that I really enjoy, and the ones that I would skip next time. I talked to Brook (manager ?) for a bit, and concluded that even if I wasn't a huge fan of the pimento cheese, the service, and atmosphere were definitely worth another visit. Just had a company event catered by Big Mikes bbq. Very good presentation and good bbq. I personally like the vinegar sauce. Little heat not too much. Chopped chicken wasn't as dry as I expected which was nice. The sweet and tangy sauce was good too but I'm not to much of a sweet sauce guy. But let me tell you the potato salad was really good! Warm cheesy soft taters two big thumbs up Mr. Big Mike!! Wash it all down with some banana pudding. Will be back if I am in apex/cary. read more

Delicious. Only complaint would be that I wish they gave you a knife. I had the brisket with sides of Mac and cheese and collards. BF had ribs and sides of blue cheese coleslaw and baked beans. The brisket had a really great flavor, not overly smoky, but good, definitely not tender enough to cut with a fork which is where the knife woulda come in real handy. Collards were phenomenal. Super tender and seasoned perfectly. The Mac and cheese was alright. Real cheese which was appreciated but grainy, lacking in flavor and over cooked pasta. Ribs were great. Really juicy and smoked perfectly. Slaw was delicious. Baked beans were a little sweet for me personally but that may just be me. The star of the meal were the sauces. The sweet and tangy and N.C. sauces were absolutely phenomenal. So much so we bought some to bring home with us. Would absolutely recommend. read more
