I came here three time just for the peach cobbler. It is so good I recommend it. Also, the hushpuppies here are amazing. When you come here it always packed and if you making an order here you have to place it outside and it can take some time. They have online ordering and pick it up inside. Most of the staff are super nice. Also get some sweet tea while you wait it delicious. Don't for get to get the peach cobbler. read more

Was just ok.... Food was ok - I've had better soul food. The menu has a lot of options and they have daily specials and features. I got the smaller meal option; I chose collard greens, Mac and cheese, and fried whiting fish. I wish they would have put more than one piece of fish on my plate. The meal was satisfactory though. Other people I was with had the mustard greens and said they were way better than the collards. The service was just ok. Very small space. We went on a non busy day. They have beer and wine for alcohol options. It's the only soul food spot in the general area, so I think that's why it gets a lot of customers. If I'm ever in Myrtle Beach again, I'll try other menu items. read more

Found this spot on yelp while vacationing in Myrtle Beach. Located just off the strip. There was a line, and I soon discovered food is cooked to order, so if you're in a hurry, or your blood sugar is low, or you're starving, you may want to go somewhere else and come back when you have time. I ordered a pork chop sandwich, a side of candied yams, and peach cobbler. Sandwich comes with 2 perfectly seasoned bone-in chops and 2 slices of bread. Candied yams weren't as soft as I like but they were good. The peach cobbler was EVERYTHING!!! Sooooo good!!! I will definitely be back! read more

I was looking for an authentic Soul Food place at MB and visited twice. The first visit was better than 3 stars, the second brought it down a bit. First of all, be ready to wait for your order. At least 45 minutes to an hour. They'll text your order is ready so you can actually leave and come back...and believe me, spend your 45 minutes to an hour doing something else. My first visit, I stopped by around mid-afternoon and I waited 45/50 minutes for my order. I ordered several of the Lil' Mike's Special (1 meat item and 2 sides). The gizzard (a little to much batter but a good portion), Shrimp Boil (this was really good and had a good amount of shrimp), Shrimp Po'boy sandwich (this was really good too and had about 12 good sized fried shrimp), and fried chicken. the sides (mashed potato, sweet potato, fried okra, fries) were all okay, nothing special. But the highlight was their sweet tea. Simply the best...got a half gallon for the rest of my trip. For my second visit, I stopped by just before closing, around 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday because I wanted to try their BBQ beef ribs and Chicken Bog. This time, the wait was over an hour. The ribs were okay, pretty tender but too it was drowned in a sweeter BBQ sauce. The worst was the Chicken Bog...it had small/few chunks of sausage and bits of bones in almost every bite...couldn't enjoy it. So...4 stars, my first visit....2 stars my second = 3 stars. Oh, service is kind of sporadic....sometimes they're somewhat friendly, other times, they're kind of rude...maybe that's typical? read more

Big Mikes never disappoints. We found this place a few years ago and now it's a must stop on our annual visit to Myrtle Beach. The servers here are always welcoming and friendly. They seem to really enjoy doing what they're doing. This place is casual and down home, just like the food. You'll find locals dressed from white and blue collar jobs all sitting right next to one another, with the knowing tourists sprinkled in. We have not had anything bad on the menu. We've tried the fried chicken (!), the meatloaf, baked chicken... But the stars of the show for us is the sides!!! Great mac-n-cheese, limas, okra, pintos, field peas, green beans, cornbread, hush puppies, and on and on! Until next time, we'll be dreaming of this "Soul Food the was your Momma made it". read more

This place was hyped upped so much it was over hyped and disappointing. They put their foot in it and not in a good way. They lacked seasoning. The collar greens had not turkey meat in it, the mac and cheese seemed to be like from a Kraft box, the candied yams and mashed potato with gravy were a 3/5. The fried chicken seemed to have been old, Popeyes had fresher chicken. Service was ok. I wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend. read more

This place is just awesome. It's all about the food here. No fancy tables or linens or fluffy chairs. These guys doubled down on flavor and cuisine. We loved it. My son (10 yo) ate his whole plate (fried pork chop). My daughter absolutely loved her macaroni and cheese. I cannot speak high enough about their seafood boil. It's priced seasonally, and it's big enough for two (I shared with my eldest whose 20yo). My wife got their shrimp boil (also highly recommended). Prices are fair... the seafood boil was the priciest at $45. As I wrote above, it's BIG. If you share it, it's like $22.50 per person, which isn't too bad in our opinion for the amount of crab and shrimp. This place isn't a secret... the people just kept coming in. Lots of to go orders. The dinning area isn't anything special, but it was full the whole night. I think you'll love this place. Five stars for friendly service and ***AMAZING FOOD***. Awesome Restaurant. We really loved our food and time here. read more

The food was great but the service was terrible in my opinion. Waitress had the worst attitude in the world. She wouldn't put any of my cups or plates on table she steady had me grabbing everything but putting my finances plates down was diabolical. She answered my finances questions about menu with a complete rudeness. She seemed super mad to me to be honest. I won't be going back but for others I recommend just don't come too cute cause waiters are some country ah haters . Even my fiance peeeped how she was treating me. Black people supposed to come together but it's always one out the bunch. Braid and pink nails waitress horrible read more

Food was great! Local place, you can't go wrong. The Mac and cheese was to die for and the collard greens were good.

I had a Togo plate macaroni and cheese and yams.this was disgusting. The macaroni was not good and the yams came out the can with a little hint of seasoning. The muffin taste dry! The peach cobbler was the only thing that tasted ok. Tasted like a dump cake peach cobbler no true crust. Definitely not true southern soul food. Not sure who hyped this place up but shame on you because this is not it. It also is possible that I went on the wrong day 10/25/25 the food was not homemade. read more

Seriously, the best food and service at one restaurant! Everything we ordered was delicious! Family shared hush puppies that everyone loved. I got the Big Mike Special with AMAZING fried chicken, the best Mac and cheese ever anywhere, coke slaw, and candied yams that... all I can say, I want to replicate!! The kids (under-10) were all satisfied with the kids menu. We got peach cobbler to go, as well as a sweet potato pie slice. I still have not touched the cobbler, due to being STUFFED on so much delicious.... Will try today. It's not on the tourist path, so as a tourist it was a deliberate destination. Seriously, everything was amazing. I hope to go back again in the future. read more

We stopped here to have a hearty southern meal. Don't let the exterior or interior fool you; the food is great here. We ordered the croissant beignets because who doesn't love beignets? For entree, we got Lil Mike's Special; I got one with grilled fish and a side of fried okra and mashed potatoes, while my husband tried the gizzards with fried okra and Mac & Cheese. Everything is made to order here, which means it'll take a few minutes for your food to be ready, but it's fresh. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions were huge; we could have done with just one entree and the beignets. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Although we dined here on this trip, I wasn't too impressed with the cleanliness of the place's interior. Will probably stick with doing takeout next time. read more

I was the kid that told them their food is good and it's so good the flavor of the crabs and the fried chicken sandwich was so good!

The food was Seating was a wait. The sign in sheet was not attended to. We got takeout, so can't really comment on the ambiance or table service, although my husband noted it was relatively small. Our order was filled quickly. The food: pros - the fried chicken was excellent, the fried okra and potato salad both great. My husband was really excited to get chicken livers and he loved them. The cons - while nothing was bad, the mashed potatoes were a bit runny, I prefer creamier, and both the mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese were bland. We will definitely go back for more fried chicken and to try out some of the other dishes. read more

As soon as we walked in we were greeted and sat. The food was good the green beans were delicious and the baked Mac and cheese.

Well, we tried! Not sure what happened since the last time we came and had a great experience and meal, but Big Mike's was a disappointment this go' round. I ordered fried catfish, only to receive catfish "nuggets", full of fat and skin. I hate nuggets and never would've ordered them had "nuggets" been anywhere on the menu. It is not! My husband ordered "chopped sirloin" only to receive a hamburger patty with gravy. Not sure what we should've expected, so we take responsibility for that one, but the catfish was misrepresented. Anyway, we both ordered corn bread, but only one of us received it. Of course, we didn't realize until we were almost home. All that to say, perhaps we caught them on a bad night, but this was not Big Mike's finest hour. read more

Arrived at 630pm placed to go order about 645 pm. Didn't get food until 745 - 755 pm. Would have been good if they said how long it would take, just a few people were waiting. We chose not to sit inside as there was a long wait and they automatically add 18% gratuity for 6 or more. We ordered: 2 kids popcorn shrimp, 1 white meat chicken sandwich, 1 seafood platter, and a buffalo shrimp. The fries were mediocre at best, no salt on any of them just 100% plain. Seafood platter fish was good just no seasoning at all. Plain batter on fish and shrimp. Oysters batter was plain as well. I was pleasantly surprised the Oysters were fried perfectly. Fish was good but plain no seasoning. Same for kids shrimp. Popcorn kids shrimp was not popcorn they were small shrimp, and the kids didn't eat the fries they had no salt, the fries were cold, everyone's fries. The hushpuppies I wanted to love but they were cooked extremely hard, each meal came with 2 hushpuppies some we could eat and some we couldn't. If it wasn't fried so hard we could have tasted the flavor. I really wanted to love it but idk if we will be back. The lady at the window was super nice just with she would have said some thing like- you'll total is xx and food will be ready in 1 hour. read more

What a nice quiet place that makes you feel welcomed even by the owner who came out to talk with guest and also asked how we are doing and how the food is. We ordered the buffalo shrimp and shrimp boil. So delicious and hit the spot! If you're looking for a nice quiet friendly place for some amazing tasting food at a great price this is it. Small restaurant with fantastic customer service. If you choose to sit outside they have a takeout window and a picnic table and full seating inside. We ordered over two visits Big Mike Pork Chop Rice a d gravy Collard greens Corn on the cob Fried okra Potato salad Fried whiting Get the fried okra. It's AMAZING! Not oily, perfectly fried seasoned and crispy. Pork chops were another hit. Shockingly I enjoyed the potato salad. A nice texture, balanced seasoning I would actually order it again. (You can't eat everyones potato salad) collard greens were flavorful and would order again. Fried whiting - not my favorite. Over fried it was too crispy. Rice and gravy. Little on the bland side and I prefer my gravy to be slightly thicker. A reasonably priced local restaurant with flavorful food and great service will definitely return read more

My first experience with this restaurant was not pleasant. I walked in, no one acknowledged I was there. I asked if I should seat myself, I was told to sign in, which I did. A few minutes later I went up to say I would come back and was told they may be able to seat me at a small table in the front. I was excited. When asked someone on the side about seating me, she looked at me and said no, tell him to sign in, in a very loud tone. I left. They are kinda rude. read more

A fellow reviewer wrote, "homecooking 101", and I agree! A small place, carry-out only, with nearly every traditional soul food eats you can think of. It was impossible to create a platter, we ended up adding on some many sides. We ordered: fried liver & onions, w.collards, cornbread, and grits, a side fried porkchop, fried chicken w.green beans, cornbread, and mashed potatoes, hush puppies appetizer, and peach cobbler. The flavors were amazing-creamy, marinated, fried but not too much breading-the meat would give a crunch when we bit in then melt away in our mouths. I absolutely loved the fried liver-quality flavor profile- the right amount of breading, gravy, and onions. I would order this regularly if we lived locally. I wish I tried the yams, but the grits were creamy perfection. The pork chop I wish I didn't have to share with hubby-but it was luckily a massive chop for only $2.50 as a side. Again, crispy then melt in mouth. The cornbread- well corn muffin, wasn't overly sweet, creating a nice pairing for the gravy. The hushpuppies...well quality soul food is made with grease- I know this, I prepared myself, and I loved every artery clogging bite. They are not 'puppies' they are full sized dogs haha. Massive massive balls. When I ordered the app over just adding hush puppies to my platter it was because I thought 2-3 wouldn't be enough, twelve would be better-but when I saw how huge the hushpuppies were-2-3 are plenty but lucky us we had twelve. Balls of delicious polenta greasly fried into perfection. With a sweet kick they were guilty pleasure doughnut balls haha. Speaking of guilty pleasure...that cobbler. Don't skip it. Hearty chunks of peaches- cinnamon cobbler crumble with a crunch, and homemade filling. I want more as I write about it. Overall, we split our order into three meals (the lunch we had, then leftover meat for dinner, and leftover sides for lunch) and the prices were super cheap. read more
