BBQ Sampler with side of sweet potatoes grits.

My honey and I chose this spot to close out our last night of vacation in Myrtle Beach and boy, are we glad we did! That atmosphere was nice and the live music added a cool island vibe. Now on to the food... a maze ING!! Chef Bo of 44 & King, did his thing! Ribs were fall off the bone, the sweet potato grits were chef's kiss, collard greens were cooked to perfection and the melt in your cornbread paired perfectly with the greens. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Myrtle Beach!

Everything was just fantastic. We stopped in last month during our trip for Spring Break (mid April) Came in for a somewhat early dinner I suppose as it started getting busier by the time we left. My cocktail had glazed smoked bacon topping in. Such a fun twist. Would have given 5 stars as all of the food was exceptional with the exception of the mac and cheese alongside my sandwich. It was dry and lackluster. They have a few yard games outside that our children played with on the way out as we were in no rush. The ambiance is pretty chill. We'd likely go again next time we are in Myrtle Beach.

First time here while visiting family in SC. The vibes are so cozy and welcoming inside to start and our waitress was so sweet. (I wish I remembered her name). We had the bison meatloaf, the tomato pie and the pot roast. Everything was so good! Especially the tomato pie and pot roast. The portions for the roast and meatloaf were huge! I had been wanting to try tomato pie for a while and so glad I did. It was so savory. They also have a summer garden cocktail right now I got as well that was so refreshing. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in SC.

I am going to start this review with I am a bourbon snob. I guess when I was a baby cutting teeth my granny rubbed whisky on my gums...with all that being said, as a Kentucky girl I love to taste what restaurants call an Old Fashioned. This one was amazing! The brown butter bitters made this a very smooth drink. The food was great and the restaurant had a cool low key vibe.

    Charcuterie Platter for 2.

We went here for Mother's Day and it did not disappoint. We were seated immediately and our server, Caitlyn, was also on the spot. Ambiance is a bit "hunter/rustic" with mounted animals prominent on the walls. The food was great! We shared a Charcuterie Platter to start. Then my son had ribs, I had the Ocean Platter, and my husband had the Pit Sampler - so much food! Took home enough leftovers for lunch the next day. It's a bit pricey, but the portions are so generous it evens out. My one complaint - there is a charge for using a credit card, so bring cash to avoid that. Restaurant should be more upfront on website or menu about that.

    Salmon risotto

Food was hands down delicious. Every single thing my party of 4 ordered was 10/10. Chef Bo really throws down on flavor and texture; everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and executed. We got an appetizer of chicken wings and they were absolutely the best chicken wings I've ever tasted, Bo even gave us some tips for cooking at home. He makes plenty of time for his guests makes the rounds to check on the food and make sure you're satisfied. Highly recommend for first time or regular southern food eaters!!

I had a great experience at this fine restaurant. The waitress was friendly and the ambiance was great. The salad I ordered was to die for. It was so fresh and refreshing. The steak was cooked to perfection. It melted in my mouth.

Phenomenal taste. All the staff is polite and very efficient. The greeter gals are very good with approximate wait times and always polite.

44 & King was an impulse stop for lunch, and I enjoyed my meal featuring slight twists on southern classics. I got the White Cheddar Chicken Burger, which features a fried chicken breast topped with white cheddar, pesto mayo, lettuce, and house pickles. The chicken was perfectly fried, and the traditional was elevated by the richness of the pesto and cheese. I would have liked a little more acidity from the pickles, but overall, it was a good, solid sandwich. I swapped in fried okra for my side, which was a good idea, if I do say so myself. The okra was cut long, rather than chopped into small discs, which was generally fine, but a detriment on a couple of very fibrous pieces that were basically inedible due to their toughness. The batter for the okra was very well-seasoned! 44 & King was a nice quiet spot for a casual lunch, and I fully recommend the White Cheddar Chicken Burger!

    A southern style pub

A southern cuisine pub that is a gem in the Myrtle Beach culinary scene. A fun vibe with teal velvet booths matched by the color scheme of the wall and an outdoor games area while you wait. The food is vibrant and fresh - a lighter and fresher southern cuisine that is satisfying without being overfilling. Perfectly al dente salmon risotto, tastefully prepared with pecorino shavings over the rice along with a perfectly cooked salmon done to one's preference. The pot roast is tasty, juicy, and filling - not because of cream or butter but just freshly smashed potatoes topped with tender brisket. Service is friendly and attentive and ready with a joke to set everyone at ease. A definite go-to place for Southern food in Myrtle Beach!

Ailsa Pub - Myrtle Beach Review (Legends Golf Resort)…read more For starters, I had no idea this place was located within a large, access-controlled gated golf resort community (I'm not local to Myrtle Beach, for context). I later realized the pub is part of Legends Golf Resort, which becomes clear once you pass through the main entry gate. Pulling up to the entrance, there was on-site personnel--looked like security or some type of access control. No issues at all on my end. I rolled up, the gate opened immediately, and I was waved right through. I'm not sure what (if anything) is typically required for entry, but from a first-time visitor standpoint, it was completely smooth. Driving in, the golf course immediately stands out on your left--it's massive. The pub sits further inside and feels like part of a full golf clubhouse setup. When you get to Ailsa Pub, it aligns with what you'd expect from that kind of setting--a true pub environment surrounded by golfers who've clearly been enjoying themselves Before I even walked in (after parking and getting myself together from a long drive), I noticed a couple golfers being escorted out by what appeared to be a representative from the establishment. As I stepped out, one of them made his way over to the bushes near the entrance and decided that was his next "relief stop." It happened to be a windy night, so I crossed to the other side of the street--no need to get caught in any unintended "splash zone." Not a dealbreaker, just one of those moments that gives you a quick read on the overall environment. That said, this is where I think there's an opportunity. Having a more consistent presence outside--especially when guests are being escorted out or appear overly intoxicated--could help better manage those situations and reduce the likelihood of issues as people head out, including potentially getting behind the wheel. Speaking from experience (having spent years working security across a range of bar environments), that kind of presence can make a noticeable difference in keeping things smooth and controlled. Inside the pub and overall physical environment, though--that was a great experience. The place is very well maintained. Clean, professional, and clearly well managed. I felt completely at ease the entire time, including with my vehicle. At no point was I concerned about break-ins or anything along those lines. The space itself is impressive. Large, open layout with plenty of room to move around. There's a sizable back area with what looked like around eight pool tables, a nicely done screened-in section, and even a second outdoor patio bar. It never felt crowded. Staff was excellent--friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender was responsive and easy to engage with, which always makes a difference. Dress-wise, it leans toward golf attire--polos, golf shorts, that type of look--but it's not overly strict. I came in more casual after the long drive, and the staff welcomed me in without any issues at all. I don't know that I'd make that a habit, but on a late Monday night, it wasn't a problem. As for the crowd, that's really the main variable. My impression was that this is not the type of environment where people are regularly looking to cause more serious trouble. It felt more like a local neighborhood pub where a lot of people know each other--though like any place, every now and then people can get a little too comfortable. Unfortunately, I didn't try the food, but they do serve it and it looked good. There were plenty of plates out, tables being cleared, and staff actively supporting that side of the operation. Bottom line: Great, comfortable environment, strong staff, and a well-designed space. The main opportunity is having a more consistent presence outside to help manage guests as they exit--especially later in the evening. All in all, a solid experience. I'd confidently give it a 4 out of 5 and would absolutely return.

During dinner, while our food was being served, I accidentally spilled an alcoholic drink that was still slightly more than half full as I was moving plates to make room for the server. I brought it to the attention of the manager. He asked whether the server had spilled the drink, and I explained that the spill occurred during the course of service but was not the server's fault. The manager brought me a replacement drink without saying that it would be charged. Had he simply told me, "I can bring another, but it will be another $10," I could have decided whether I wanted another drink. Instead, the replacement appeared on the bill with no prior discussion. When I noticed the charge, I walked toward the bar as the manager was coming into the dining room to serve other guests. I told him I hadn't expected to be charged since nothing had been said beforehand. He responded, "I'll be over. I have other tables." When he later came to our table, in front of our entire party of eight adults and four preteen children, he stated that I had "run up on him" and that he was "shaking." That characterization was surprising and unnecessary. We had simply been walking toward one another as he exited the bar area and I approached to ask about the bill. At no point was I threatening or aggressive. The manager later explained that his earlier question about whether the server spilled the drink was only to determine whether it was the restaurant's responsibility. While I understand that restaurants may have different policies regarding replacement drinks, customers should be informed before a replacement is served if they will be charged. Failing to communicate that created an awkward and uncomfortable situation that could have been completely avoided. To his credit, the manager ultimately removed the charge. However, the handling of the situation and the comments made in front of our family left a much stronger impression than the $10 charge itself. Good communication and professionalism would have prevented the entire incident.
