Way, way, way too loud in here. The open floor plan made me feel like we were eating in a high school cafeteria. Wasn't impressed with the food service. The waitress we had was fine but the food servers just stood at one end of the table and handed everything to me and then I had to hand it all off to the other 6 people in our party. What are we tipping for then? Should I just be the food runner myself? That's what it felt like. Prices here used to be way, way, way better. Every time I come here they've raised prices again. No real value here and their craft beers are definitely overpriced. No need to add to the noise by having a guitar player singer guy in the corner either. The buffalo mac and cheese was ridiculously soupy. I should've sent it back. I miss the Grumpy Monk from 5 years ago.

On vacation from Alabama, my family was on a mission: custom airbrushed t-shirts. We found our prize at Broadway, and just as we finalized our designs, the collective stomach growls of three hangry children reached DEFCON 1. Fortunately, Grumpy Monk was right next door, and the doors were open. A literal lifesaver. It was early for lunch on a Thursday, so the place was calm--which is ideal when you're rolling in with a toddler who's one cracker away from a full meltdown. Our server deserves a medal. She took our order while Sadie was mid-scream and even brought out a bowl of strawberries to help tame the tiny beast. Hero move. Our son went with the classic grilled cheese and applesauce (approved), and the girls split mac 'n cheese and those now-sacred strawberries. The food came out quickly--so quickly, in fact, I only managed one sad photo of the mac before the chaos resumed. I ordered a French 75 martini (yes, please) and my husband tried a mystery draft beer ("dealer's choice" style). Drinks were solid. No notes. The food, however... well, let's just say the "Funky Irishman" was more funky than function. The corned beef was so tough I couldn't bite through it. I'm not one to send things back, but this was unchewable. They kindly let me swap it for a buffalo grilled chicken sandwich. It was edible, but between the blackened seasoning, buffalo sauce, and ranch, it was sodium overload. My husband's Cali Grilled Cheese was basically a BLT in disguise. Tasty? Sure. But grilled cheese it was not. Once we made the sandwich switcheroo, things settled down. Overall, it wasn't terrible--but not exactly a $120 lunch, either. Then again, such is the cost of feeding a family in a tourist hotspot. TL;DR: Kid-friendly, solid service, strong drinks. Food? Meh. But if you're already at Broadway with hangry littles, it gets the job done.

The food here is so very good. The fries are the best we have had in a very long time. The wait staff was super friendly and helpful when asking questions about the menu. Food came out hot and fast.

Ok disclaimer I was ticked because the awesome name and a great menu on line but once we got there the menu was different. I had something picked out that didn't make the cut. Service was only mediocre as we had to ask for refills. He checked on the beer but not rhetorical water and teas. The maple glazed salmon was dirt and overdone. Cool interior and a great concept. Fix the staff and go back to the old menu and I am my try it again.

Servers are attentive. Stater foods are good for a quick bite. Standard interior nothing to write home about. Plenty of parking.

Food was okay. Compared to other local businesses this was a 3.5. Menu needs more variety and execution.

Not a fan. Great beer selection but always questionable service no matter how many customers are currently in the restaurant.

Ailsa Pub - Myrtle Beach Review (Legends Golf Resort)…read more For starters, I had no idea this place was located within a large, access-controlled gated golf resort community (I'm not local to Myrtle Beach, for context). I later realized the pub is part of Legends Golf Resort, which becomes clear once you pass through the main entry gate. Pulling up to the entrance, there was on-site personnel--looked like security or some type of access control. No issues at all on my end. I rolled up, the gate opened immediately, and I was waved right through. I'm not sure what (if anything) is typically required for entry, but from a first-time visitor standpoint, it was completely smooth. Driving in, the golf course immediately stands out on your left--it's massive. The pub sits further inside and feels like part of a full golf clubhouse setup. When you get to Ailsa Pub, it aligns with what you'd expect from that kind of setting--a true pub environment surrounded by golfers who've clearly been enjoying themselves Before I even walked in (after parking and getting myself together from a long drive), I noticed a couple golfers being escorted out by what appeared to be a representative from the establishment. As I stepped out, one of them made his way over to the bushes near the entrance and decided that was his next "relief stop." It happened to be a windy night, so I crossed to the other side of the street--no need to get caught in any unintended "splash zone." Not a dealbreaker, just one of those moments that gives you a quick read on the overall environment. That said, this is where I think there's an opportunity. Having a more consistent presence outside--especially when guests are being escorted out or appear overly intoxicated--could help better manage those situations and reduce the likelihood of issues as people head out, including potentially getting behind the wheel. Speaking from experience (having spent years working security across a range of bar environments), that kind of presence can make a noticeable difference in keeping things smooth and controlled. Inside the pub and overall physical environment, though--that was a great experience. The place is very well maintained. Clean, professional, and clearly well managed. I felt completely at ease the entire time, including with my vehicle. At no point was I concerned about break-ins or anything along those lines. The space itself is impressive. Large, open layout with plenty of room to move around. There's a sizable back area with what looked like around eight pool tables, a nicely done screened-in section, and even a second outdoor patio bar. It never felt crowded. Staff was excellent--friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender was responsive and easy to engage with, which always makes a difference. Dress-wise, it leans toward golf attire--polos, golf shorts, that type of look--but it's not overly strict. I came in more casual after the long drive, and the staff welcomed me in without any issues at all. I don't know that I'd make that a habit, but on a late Monday night, it wasn't a problem. As for the crowd, that's really the main variable. My impression was that this is not the type of environment where people are regularly looking to cause more serious trouble. It felt more like a local neighborhood pub where a lot of people know each other--though like any place, every now and then people can get a little too comfortable. Unfortunately, I didn't try the food, but they do serve it and it looked good. There were plenty of plates out, tables being cleared, and staff actively supporting that side of the operation. Bottom line: Great, comfortable environment, strong staff, and a well-designed space. The main opportunity is having a more consistent presence outside to help manage guests as they exit--especially later in the evening. All in all, a solid experience. I'd confidently give it a 4 out of 5 and would absolutely return.

With so many good restaurants in the area, we usually try new places, but before heading home we decided it was time to stop in again for dinner. As usual, we try to go during happy hour when prices are a bit better, and we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly she greeted us right away, handed us menus, and took our drink order. The menu had changed a bit since our last visit. My wife ordered a Coke, and I had an Old Fashioned. For food, my wife chose the Fried Crab Claws with fries, and I ordered the French Onion Soup along with the Pork Nachos from the happy hour menu. While we were waiting, the bartender asked where we were from. We told her Southern Maryland, and when I said Huntingtown, she immediately said, "That's where I'm from." That alone surprised us not many people even know where Huntingtown is. When we mentioned the road we live on, she said, "That's the road I turn on to my parents' house." This was the first time we've ever met a bartender or server over 400 miles from home who lived that close to us. Small world. Our food came out and my wife really enjoyed her crab claws -- I tried one and they were very good. My French onion soup had a nice, deep beef flavor and was very tasty, but after a few bites there was a heavy pepper bite that came through. It was still good, but I had to switch over and eat some of my nachos, which were also good, though different from how I remembered them. I think the BBQ sauce changed the flavor, and the lettuce (which I usually prefer without) was something I should have asked to leave off. I asked my wife to try the soup and mentioned the pepper and that it might be a little spicy. She agreed it was good but said it would be better if it wasn't so peppery. A little later, the chef came out and introduced himself, Bo. He asked how everything was going. I told him everything was good overall but mentioned the heavy pepper bite in the onion soup and asked if that was normal. He said it shouldn't be that strong and that it needed to be toned back. Bo then asked if we had ever tried Mama's Soup, the tomato vegetable soup on the menu. We hadn't, and he asked if we'd like to try it. Not long after, he brought us another bowl and said, "This is Mama's soup give it a try." It was a vegetable soup with hamburger and a tomato base, and it was so good. When he came back, he explained it was his own version of his mother's soup. We told him it would go perfectly with a gooey grilled cheese, and he laughed and said they actually have one on the menu. It was really nice of Chef Bo to come out, check on us, listened and know something wasn't quite right, and it's being taken care of. That kind of interaction truly makes dining out a better experience. It makes the place feel welcoming, like they genuinely want you there. Yes, we will return -- and we were told that Mama's soup is always on the menu.
