I went to Big Jakes in Hope, AR today. I went in drive-thru. Ordered potato salad and 1/4 pound smoked sausage. The smoked sausage was cold, cold. Like it come out of ice box. I called back up there to ask if they supposed to serve cold smoked sausage. A manager said "No, sorry..." I paid over $5 for a few pieces of cold smoked sausage. No attempt was made to fix the issue. I was not offered another serving. I was not offered a refund. Just a sorry. If you want cold food, then this the place to go. Otherwise, go elsewhere... BBQ is not supposed to be cold, except for the potato salad and cole slaw, if they serve it. read more

A short story of how a piece of toast covered more than half of my three-piece meat plate for an adult. First time customer traveling from Chicago to College Station TX. Thursday at 7:15pm we walked in and order to go, restaurant 50% capacity drive-through 4-5 cars. The yelp review of 4.5 stars and easy on and off the I-30 access is why we stopped. Ordered #4 three meat, two sides, potato salad, coleslaw, #10 loaded baked potato, 2 cherry pies & large drink. $40.08 Everything cold, cold and more cold except for the sauce, three different sauces in the to go bag unmarked for flavor, take a guess. Portion size of the #4 (looked like a kids meal or a doggy bag) loaded baked potato large and could feed a small family of Eskimos. Take a look at the poster inside marketing the loaded baked potato looks pretty good stuffed with brisket and lots of toppings. Actual loaded baked potato had no brisket just bacon bits, cheese, sour cream & onion. Potato salad, not bad, coleslaw blah. The fried cherry pie obviously not made in House was also cold. It would have tasted better warm. We were misled by the branding fried pie. I would've thought crispy and possibly warm. Just passed two billboards south of their location on the I-30, one for Silverstar smokehouse which I'll try on the next trip. The other for big Jakes. Take a look at the pictures of the food on the billboard for Big Jake's and then look at the pictures below and on yelp. I'm a bit of a BBQ snob, having eaten at most of the well known spots nationally and a lot of local haunts too. Beat thing here was the People, very nice and helpful. The brisket was ok, could use some more seasoning and definitely more smoke but at least it wasn't dry. Someone else commented on the fries and I agree they were pretty terrible, soggy and bland. Since I was driving through Bill Clinton's neck of the woods I had high hopes I could get some good BBQ. There was a big line at the drive-thru and a good amount of people inside the dining area, so it looked like a good bet. The service was prompt and friendly and there were lots of choices on the menu. I went with brisket ad sausage with some coleslaw and fries on the side. The sides were as good as sides usually are - nothing spectacular, but a good compliment to the meat. The sausages had a nice taste, but the brisket was dry, so I had to pour on some sauce. We stopped by here since it was so close to the highway. The food is great and the staff is so friendly. We got sloppy joes and the baked potato which was yummy. The fried okra side was perfectly crispy and delicious. There are a couple of picnic tables to sit outside which was a nice option during COVID and they even brought us bones and some meat when they saw our dog with us. Stopped in on a trip to Dallas, TX. The BBQ tacos were so good! The flour tortilla was fresh and crispy with tender pulled pork. I especially liked the Smokey BBQ sauce with the taco. I tried the pork ribs here yesterday and they were pretty dog gone good! They were St Louis style exactly like what I cook myself at home. The meat was very tender and came off the bone easily. The flavor was good and smoky too. For sides I had baked beans and potato salad. Both of them were good but not outstanding. Probably of the two I liked the baked beans the best. Conveniently located and large enough to serve large groups or family style dining. When we first entered I noticed a variety of tables that needed to be cleaned. I ducked into the restroom only to find one of their toilets in operable and overflowing. Because of its reviews we decided on this location for dinner as we were traveling interstate. I got a combination plate and was very happy with the ribs the brisket was OK mac & cheese was good as well as the sweet potatoe frys. Management is the issue here, it appeared there were no adults present and a handful of teenagers behind the counter. Really the tables should be tended to.
