Stopped here for dinner, and went with a loaded baked potato (pork), and two fried pies (apricot, cherry). The potato was gigantic, and very well prepared. The pork had a good mix of bark and meat, but minimal smoke. It required a house sauce to bring it to life. The pies were good-sized, but thin. Great place to eat. Prices are good, but watch out, you CANNOT finish eating, refill your drink and sit it down to go to the restroom. They have a man in there that trolls the dining room relentlessly and he WILL find it in a matter of 30 seconds and throw it away. No matter HOW WELL you hide it. We stop here and eat every year on our way to Arkadelphia from Austin and this year was no different. Super gracious staff, immaculate dining rooms and the food is hot, fresh and delicious. Stopped in on way to work and ordered 3 meat dinner. Pulled pork, Sliced Brisket and Pulled Brisket. Got to work and opened container and no pork. I called them and told them what happened. They asked if I had my receipt and I told them I threw it in their trash can on way out the door. They said sorry nothing we can do. I called them less than 10 min after leaving the store. The portions were super small especially when they charged an extra $4 for brisket. Definitely not a $24 meal and it wasn't even that good. Meat was very dry. I guess that's why they include 3 cups of sauce. Definitely won't be back! read more

Simply stated, I find this the best BBQ around. The smokiness of the meat, the tenderness and spice are perfectly matched. The beans that are out for everyone to eat are nicely flavored and tender. All the sides are great but I love the Mac n cheese as well as the fried okra. The chopper brisket sandwich is a good 3/4 pound of meat. We tried to go to Naaman's but there we're too many people and not many workers wearing masks. It was too much for me. So we ventured over to Big Jakes. This was the right choice for us. The food was good, so much more than we eat at the time. The young men serving and waiting on us we nice and attentive. Looks alot like Rudy's in Houston, until the food came out. Food: Pulle pork: dry, chewy, soggy. It's not too bad but definetly pale in comparisons to the BBQ just a few minutes across the border(Ok, a few hours). B Brisket: dry and rough, not the moist buttery taste I was expecting. B Pork Ribs: tender and smooth, pretty damned good. A Sides: slaw and beans were pretty good. Some of the best BBQ we had on a road trip through southern states. Enjoyed the chopped brisket very much, it was tender and moist. The sweet potato fries were among the best we've had. Pulled pork was also good. The coleslaw had a nice sweetness to it. The pinto beans had a bit of a kick (only too spicy for our strictly mild Mom). They had a variety of BBQ sauces to choose from - I really enjoyed the mustard BBQ sauce on the brisket. Stopped in Texarkana on the way down I-30 to try Sum Burger and ended up with a lot of food in an ice chest on the way home! Cody the manager made a point to come and speak to us and we will return next time we are in the area. All folks traveling in the I-30 corridor should make an effort to try one of these 5 Big Jakes locations! Not cheap but quality meat!
