This is an old style diner serving homemade southern style comfort food. The diner is larger than you would expect but felt comfortable and inviting. It has nostalgic decor with a combination of booths and tables. At the height of lunch hour it was very busy but we were promptly seated and served. We happen to be driving through Texarkana at lunchtime and remembered that we had friends from our town, which is an hour away, that rave about it and occasionally for an outing will drive to Texarkana just to eat lunch. I had fried chicken livers, cabbage and the twice baked potato while my husband had the chicken fried chicken. My potato was just average but the fried livers and cabbage were excellent. We both enjoyed our food very much and I appreciated the fact that the tea glasses were large enough that I didn't have to ask for refills. One review complained that there weren't very many chicken livers. I only had about seven livers myself, but they were so huge that I ended up making two meals out of it. We thought the food was very reasonably priced and some of the meals even come with half portions. Well, I did go back for lunch. It was a cold and windy day so I got the special - Chicken & Dumplings. Oh my goodness was it good! It was better than my great grandmother's. I could just taste the pride that someone put into making the dumplings. So delicious...but I think he only does that special once a week. One more thing about Dixie Diner, the value. You can get a very good meal with homemade rolls and cornbread for less than you pay at a drive thru. Food is always good. Rolls are to die for! Service has always been good. There are some things I don't care for on the menu but it is my personal preference. The quality of the food and service at this once outstanding restaurant has dropped dramatically. Our family ate there last evening 5/11/24. The chef salad had NO ham or bacon, they over compensated with ground up hard boiled eggs and grill chicken. My wife had fried cat fish and onion rings and the onions were cold and under fried(oil too cold) my granddaughter's fries were undercooked my grandson Irish waffle fried did have bacon.
