Service was great. I had the chicken tenders. The portion size is large and they were juicy and not dried out. The gravy was good but a little runny. I love their roles and corn bread. read more

Dixie Diner - Diners Near Me - Texarkana, Texas

We stopped in for lunch while traveling. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food. The chicken fried steak was soooo good, as was the chicken fried chicken. The fried okra was crispy, and the rolls and cornbread were very tasty. The fried catfish was very fresh and flavorful. The grilled chicken breast was very small and had no flavor. The side salad also lacked a bit, but it was definitely a good find and easy in and out off the interstate. read more

Nostalgic decor with old license plates from all over the US on the walls. Also old pictures and behind the cashier an old gum machine from a wall post in a NYC subway station. Looks like it dates from the 1950's. My wife said that the rolls were "so good." Corn bread was a four star. My rolls were also four star. Chicken fried chicken tasted heavenly. Five stars! Gravy and all were perfect. Can not be improved. French fries were five stars. About the best I ever had. The flavor was excellent. They have potato skin on them for extra good taste. They are on a par with Nathan's Famous in Coney Island, NY and Five Guys. Mashed potatoes were good. Service was warm southern hospitality style. This is a large restaurant with many seats. Prices are reasonable. read more

We had great waitress (Maria) who seated us when the hostess wasn't in any rush. Our order was really fast and the chicken fried steak was delish! They even asked if I wanted pepper sauce for my greens before I had to ask. The okra was homemade too, and the gravy was amazingly flavorful. Seemed like everyone knew everyone there. They even have a drive-through!This is the kind of place I wish was near my home. read more

Dixie Diner - Sign that point to awesome southern comfort food - Diners Near Me - Texarkana, Texas

We ate here for dinner while passing through town. It was very nice to get a real meal while traveling. I got the vegetable plate (because I can't eat gluten): black-eyed peas, green beans, turnip greens, and French fries. I'd get two orders of green beans next time since they were my favorite. Everything fried is in peanut oil, which makes it taste good. The server was very friendly and attentive and proactive. The French fries were actually amazing and why I felt I should leave a review. They were very crunchy on the outside and perfect on the inside, and I could tell the potatoes still had skins; the skin is my favorite part of a potato since that has all the flavor. The skin plus the peanut oil made them taste excellent. My husband got the fried catfish with greens and said it was very good. He and my daughter both loved the rolls, too. Great family dining stop. read more

Our server was excellent. Loved the old fashioned diner decor. This is a very large diner and appears to be popular. My liver and onions were great. My wife's catfish were muddy and mushy according to her. The homemade soup was very good. It is a nice place to stop on the way through Texarkana. read more

Good food and good, friendly service! My dad loves their blackberry cobbler and potato soup.

Always great food and great service. This place is no secret in Texarkana. Just go to dinner any night and experience it yourself. Even with a full house, you always get great service. The daily sides are a treat. Save room for home made pie. I know not everyone likes beef liver and onions but if you do--- this is the best you've ever had! read more

service excellent food horrible, we ate there about a year ago and was great something must have happened in the kitchen

Road trip and stopped at this staple of Texarkana dining. FOOD: true, down-home, Southern cooking. My friend had liver and onions which she said was great. I had the fried-chicken livers, black-eyed peas and fried okra. Fresh yeast rolls, so warm & good. ATMOSPHERE: real, home-town diner, dated with ice-boxed pie case. SERVICE: great service, we had a cute, young lady that did a fabulous job, but pet peeve for me--tell me your name. Unlike, 90% of your clientele don't remember, but I write reviews and like to give credit for good waitstaff. That is the reason for 3 stars. TIPS: bread basket is 2 yeast rolls and 2 cornbread, stack the deck and order 4 of the yeast. Yummy! read more

A real great place to eat. Everything is great, especially the baked potato soup. It has a home cooking, cafe kinda vibe. We always have great, cheerful service. It's a must in Texarkana. read more

LOVED the chicken fried chicken!! Cooked perfectly. Try the coke slaw, it's vinegar based and sooooo good. I took home a piece of strawberry cake for later or for breakfast with my coffee. I love a good diner. read more

Northerners will never understand the joys of a) greens that have simmered in pot liquor all day long, b) deliberately burnt okra, and c) the joys of day old fried chicken served cold the next morning. Screw 'em -- I know what's good for ME. :) I've eaten at this place for years now, and have no intention of stopping. Homemade Southern cooking. Clean as a whistle venue. Super friendly service. read more

If you ever get a chance to stop here in your travels, even if it's out-of-the-way make a trip to the Dixie diner. Great great service and amazing diner foods!! Chicken fried steak was perfect. (My hubs has that). I had the veggie platter with black-eyed peas, homemade cabbage slaw, macaroni and cheese, and turnip greens. Everything was absolutely fresh, never frozen, and so tasty!! We'll be back. read more

Was disappointed after reading the reviews and driving out of our way to visit this restaurant. Yes the yeast rolls were great. Cornbread just okay. I ordered Liver and Onions, which I love. They were kinda dry. It came with a bowl of package gravy which I didn't care for. Ordered a side of potato soup. Tasted like runny potatoes with potato chuncks without seasoning. The only thing that made the soup edible was the bacon and cheddar cheese on top. The twice baked potato came out cold and all shrivel up. I didn't eat it. Was going to order a dessert by the reviews but after we tried our food changed my mind. My husband didn't care for his food either. Restaurant was clean. Waitress was very good. read more

We stopped here while traveling, wanting a big country breakfast. Forget that, this diner DOESN'T DO BREAKFAST! Now that I've eaten there, I applaud them doing what they do best, because it was as good as it gets on the good old fashioned southern food scene. Homemade rolls and cornbread. Homemade desserts each one as great as the next! What I really have to RAVE about is the chicken fried steak! OMG! I don't like gravy on mine but I didn't tell the server so it came decorated with white gravy but it was so crispy on the outside and so tender and juicy on the inside I didn't care what it had on it! The black eyed peas where perfect, the greens were just a little too salty for me, probably from all the ham in them! My friend got the chopped sirloin steak and said it was really delicious along with amazing fries and a side salad with homemade salad dressings! She said her chocolate pie was one of the best she ever had! Our server, Amanda was so sweet and so knowledgeable. I would definitely ask for her if this restaurant was in my hometown! No breakfast...NO PROBLEM! read more

Food was very good. The service was very good. Enjoyed our stay. Try the chicken fried steak. It was very good.

Great place for friendly comfort food. Great staff and really good banana pudding. Easy location to get to from highway.

The sides were decent, the main dishes terrible. The ceiling was leaking and moldy looking. Service was good but I've never eaten such mediocre bad Southern style food. read more

Dixie Diner is one of our favourites when driving thru Texarkana! Yummy chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak and a big guy tgatt is chicken fried ribeye! Visiting Texarkana for business, looked to Yelp for dinner options...Dixie Diner had great ratings and looked to be a local favorite. The rolls were very tasty with honey, the mashed potatoes and gravy were good and the side salad was fresh...but the STAR of the show was the Chicken Fried Chicken...based on the reviews, I only got the half order but I wish I had ordered the full!! My colleague got one of the salads and a bowl of the soup of the day and not only was it all good, the total bill was $25! Great food, friendly staff and good value! Highly recommend. read more

Great home style southern cooking. We had baked chicken with dressing and jellied cranberry sauce. It was excellent. For sides we had fresh baked yeast rolls, cornbread, mash potatoes (from real potatoes not boxed), greens , and speckled butter beans. All delicious. Sure wish we could have managed dessert, it looked yummy too. At peak times, service can be slightly slower but not bad. read more

What a wonderful experience! Eight folks came for lunch. No one went away unhappy. Our waitress started out telling us everything here was homemade. I had a hamburger and fries with a broccoli cheese rice casserole on the side. Across the table was a pork tenderloin and collard greens. Steak fingers and mashed potatoes. Chicken and dumplings, chicken tenders. Everything was yummy. The decor was personalized license plates and Americana. This restaurant has a large dining room. So bring your big groups. Definitely a place to come back to. read more

Food was good, waitress was good. Management was terrible. We had a party of 9 so I left a $20 tip. Never got a ticket, went to register and paid only to find out they charged me $14.89 tip on the bill. Asked to speak to manager and she said she couldn't take it off the bill. The waitress deserved the $20 but not $35. Manager was very rude. read more

The wife and I stopped in on our way to Arkansas. We were looking for a local spot and the Dixie Diner was just off the highway and easy to reach. I had the half-order of chicken-fried steak for lunch. I imagine the full order would feed at least two. The meat was tender and the breading was crisp and delicious, even after I drowned it in white gravy. If you have any influence with Cracker Barrel, tell them to send a cook here and copy the recipe, their chicken-fried steak version is infinitely better than the Barrel's assembly-line produced, encased in concrete, atrocity. My wife had the chicken-fried chicken breast and it was moist and meaty, too. The rolls with the meal were outstanding, you could make a meal from them, while the corn bread was okay. We had pie for dessert and making the choice was difficult. I had the pecan cheesecake and the wife opted for chocolate. The pecan looked better than it tasted, the combo didn't work for me. The chocolate was fine. Both are pictured below. The Dixie Diner is well worth a stop if you're passing on the highway. Good food, friendly service, great prices. read more

This place was great, not too expensive, and a fun place to eat! My chicken fried chicken was very tasty, and my husband loved his meal (I don't remember what he got). The tea was not the best, but it at least tasted like it was freshly made. The waiter took great care of us, and next time we travel in that direction, we may stop back by, although we like to try new places when possible. read more

Three stars plus five divided by two is four. Four stars. We go there often, and it's mostly excellent, but once in a while it lets us down a bit. The specialty pot roast is very good but sometimes has three larges pieces of beef hiding from each other behind large chunks of carrots and potatoes. It would be more appropriately called tater roast. It's darned fine home cooking. Try it; you'll like it. read more

I just found a new place to eat in Texarkana: The Dixie Diner. Bryce's Cafeteria was closed on Sunday afternoon, so I turned to Yelp to find an alternative. Yelp led me to Dixie Diner. I assumed it was part of a local chain, but that seems to be not the case. I am a sucker for liver and onions. And when I saw it on the menu, my resolve to get a veggie plate crumbled. I am glad it did. The full portion came with two slices of perfectly cooked , freshly grilled liver. There was a dish of brown gravy on the side, the perfect accompaniment in which to dip each tasty bite. My two sides of turnip greens and mashed potatoes were exactly what one expects and seldom gets. Be warned: Dixie Diner is easy to find on Kings Highway, less than a block north of I-30, on the west side of town; this fact, however, seemed to elude the GPS in my mobile device. Fortunately, after a short wild goose chase, I found the restaurant. I am glad I did. I am now pleasantly full and ready to hit the road again. read more

Fantastic and loving meals prepared how your momma made them or better. Butter beans were great! Irish nachos were a great meal for the little ones. Twice baked were really good. Chicken fried ribeye was pretty good. But the pork sirloin topped with onions was the best! No gravy needed. Chocolate cream pie was the perfect balance of slightly salt in the crust and sweet creamy goodness. Waitress felt like family read more

We could make a meal out of the homemade rolls. You don't even need the butter and honey. The shrimp dinner was yum. A little skimpy for the price. Do not order the coleslaw unless you prefer the pickled vinegar kind. The chicken fry was amazing. The mashed potatoes had the box taste. Women's bathroom could use air freshener and cleaning. Would we stop again?? Yes! read more
