I was on my way from Austin to Little Rock and started to get hunger pains as I was approaching New Boston. Two soul food restaurants popped up... the other one was closed and so I called this one. The person who answered the phone she was so nice. She explained that they would be closing soon so I checked real quick how soon I could get there. Luckily I was not that far away and it was only 10 minutes off my route. when I got there I realized they're located in a church on The Fringe of an abandoned Mall..... With a drive-thru window!!! I pulled up and a very nice gentleman greeted me and had my order ready to go. I pulled over into some shade. I dug into my chicken with dressing, my cabbage and my green beans. Very tasty! The portions were also good. I'm looking forward to that cheesecake with strawberries and pecans that I also ordered but I'll save that for tonight. I am bookmarking this joint! read more

Excellent food, friendly service, and great prices! Once you walk in turn immediately to the right and get in line to order food. Cafeteria style. The servers behind counter are very well organized and work great together. At the end of the line you pay then find a place to sit. Waiter was attentive and friendly. I got the small chicken in dressing, mac n cheese & purple hull peas. My husband had the large smothered pork chops, mac n Cheese and mashed potatoes! Everything was so delicious! Highly recommend! Stopped here passing through town. Good little find. Food was excellent home cooked soul food. Staff was extremely friendly. Beef tip very tender and flavorful. This food is wonderful, really good home cooking. Butter pecan cheesecake is incredible. Very clean tasting food and the sweet tea is perfect. Me and a friend were there on Monday Sept 15 for lunch. The cashier wearing glasses was rude to the drink servers. Very disrespectful to them. They weren't very organized and my friend waited a while to get his food. He ordered cheesecake and the same cashier told him they would bring it out to him but they didn't. He asked a out or 2 more times but never got it. Equal to the best Cheesecake I have eaten. Equal only to Junior's Cheesecake, which is 5 states away and $70 per cake! Being from Mississippi, I am familiar with cornbread. This was the best cornbread I have ever eaten. Really! Sweet, juicy, corn flavor. Lasagna was extraordinary... Like crazy good! The pound cake was to die for also. When it comes to getting a good home cooked meal that is not actually cooked in someone's home one is hard pressed to find a winner. Not in the case of Off the Fire. From the outside you'd never know what goodness awaits. They put their heart and souls into the recipes and serve it up with a genuine smile and a healthy portion. They feed you like your grandma does. Everything I've ever gotten there is top shelf taste and the service is even better. These are good folks serving good food to those who appreciate it. I've been hearing a lot about this place and was thrilled when I got the chance to have lunch tbere today. If it's fancy you want in food or atmosphere, either get over it or go elsewhere. This ain't it. But if it's great, genuine home style cooking you want, served up by a friendly and attentive staff, in a relaxed, crazy clean environment but you don't want to spend the rent, then you have to give them a shot. I had the meatloaf with candied yams and pinto beans. The yams leave a bit to be desired but the pinto beans and meatloaf were well seasoned, properly cooked, and plentiful. My mother had chicken and dressing that was as good as any homemade I've had on any given holiday. Yeah, the place looks like a church potluck set up with long tables and folding chairs but what it lacks in style points, it more than makes up for in quality food, clean environment, great service and the greatest rarity these days, every penny of your money's worth. read more

My FIRST & ONLY time going to Off the Fire restaurant was absolutely terrible!!! We informed him the food was cold & asked to get it warmer in the microwave. The staff was extremely nice & helpful BUT the OWNER WAS EXTREMELY RUDE!!! He approached us with an attitude & then hollered at his staff. I promise I'm not the type to fuss about food, but when your customer service is terrible I will not accept it. I WILL NEVER GO BACK EVEN IF SOMEONE ELSE PAID! HE NEEDS TO TAKE RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT COURSES!!! Everyone shouldn't run a restaurant! read more

If you want great country food this is the place. I had the small chicken and dressing purple whole peas and cabbage and a lemonade my check was $8 and change. I brought food home my friend had the small meatloaf with double yams with a drink price was the same. Corn bread was delicious someone else had the grilled chicken chef salad she said it was delicious. All the staff was very nice they refilled our drinks very clean. Don't let the older building discourage you. We will be back!! read more

I have come here often with my family. Each experience has been fine until today. After me and my daughter got our food and waited in line to pay I noticed her tray was getting heavy to the point she was about to waste her food. There is a counter top space next to the register that customers can place their tray on for assistance. However, there were a group of men in the area designated for that. As the line moved my daughter squeeze by because I told her to go ahead and get us a booth while I paid for our food. One of the employee's, who I was later told was the owner's wife, RUDELY told me that the cashier had to see my daughter plate before she went through. I instructed my daughter to come back so the cashier could see her plate and tried to explain that my daughter's tray was getting heavy and she couldn't continue to hold it anymore and that's why she went ahead and got us a table. The owner's wife continued to respond with an attitude that someone in customer service should not exhibit. She talked over me the whole time I tried to explain that I had my daughter go through so she could put her tray down. The owner's wife hastily stated that that's why the have counter space so customers can rest their trays there. When I tried to inform her that the gentlemen in front of us were crowding that area she completely dismissed me and became condescending. Her husband, the owner, eventually came to see what the problem was and I received the same treatment from him. I've been told and warned how harshly he treats his employee's and even witnessed it once myself but never towards customers until today. My family can surely afford the cost of what food I was ordering but to be treated way the owner and his wife treated us is unacceptable and disgusting. We ended up leaving the food there and left their establishment. It may not matter much to them but we will NOT return back to spend our money at a place of business who treats the customers who keeps them in business in as if they are less than even being heard. read more
