Passed up Cracker Barrel to try this gem on the way to Houston. Do the same to support a worthy local business. Had a wonderful shared meal with the hubby that included eggs, sausage, toast, hashbrowns and oatmeal for only $20 dollars. Met the community as they came in, relaxed and informal on a Sunday, diverse and all ages. Took a photo on the Texas and Arkansas border a few blocks away. Reminded me of having breakfast with my dad, now in his 80s, when I was a youth. read more

The food just wasn't very good. It was passable. Got the grilled cheese which was basic but yummy, and then the strawberries and cream waffle. We were driving from Missouri to Austin TX and stopped here for breakfast. The service was amazing- seemed like a family run restaurant- but they were so attentive. We were immediately waited on and consistently checked on for more coffee and to see how our meals were. The food was delicious. We ordered the waffle with bacon, all the meats omelet and the hash brown dish with veggies and bacon and cheese. The biscuits were delicious. The grits were the only dish that wasn't awesome. A good solid breakfast diner. Spacious, clean, big room in the back for meetings. Everything I ate(egg, bacon, sausage link, and pancake) tasted good. I also ordered a biscuit and (sausage-less) gravy. In another review, the biscuits were described as ''cat's-head biscuits.'' That was a new phrase for me and the waitress never heard of it either, nor had my friend from Oklahoma. Google to the rescue! It means a biscuit as big as a cat's head. Mine was a normal size so maybe it was the size of a small cat's head. In any case, it was light and very tasty. The gravy was yummy too. read more

Decent food from a small town locally owned and ran restaurant. Nice friendly service. I think this area is interesting but we did have a decent meal.meal and good service. The Country Fried Steak is great for dinner, but I really enjoyed the Country Fried Steak Breakfast - smaller steak with 2 eggs, hash browns, 2 cat-head biscuits, and gravy!! Of course; even the simple egg breakfast comes with sides like bacon or sausage, waffle or toast or biscuits, grits or oatmeal, etc.. Several members of our party ate varieties like this, and they were all good. The dry & crispy thick-sliced bacon is worth stopping for, even if you aren't hungry (crispy bacon is life)! I really wanted to like this place based on previous yelpers and my love of local favorites. We stopped in for breakfast and there were a number of locals having coffee and chatting. On the plus side the price of the basic egg breakfasts are cheap! My wife's scrambled eggs and toast with sausage...$3.99. Wow. I ordered the scattered hash browns and they turned out to be not so great in price or product. For $10.99 I expected something much bigger than what I got based on the other menu choices and the description. They were described as hash browns with jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers,and ham. If it had all those things they were chopped so small I could not see them and it must all be canned not fresh. It just looked sad. The cheese on top looked like bagged pre-shredded cheese and was not even melted, just sitting in a pile on top. They were warm, not hot. It came with two eggs and as I write this I realize it was supposed to have bacon or sausage and it came with neither. I don't remember being asked which I wanted either. I substituted toast for the biscuits and gravy. Mistake. The toast was soggy with butter. Yuck. The coffee was pretty good. Everyone there was very friendly and I can only hope that maybe lunch is their strong point but breakfast was very disappointing overall so just can't recommend it here. read more

Went for breakfast on a Sunday noon. The place was hopping. Despite that, we were seated reasonably quickly. The staff demonstrated extreme flexibility in moving tables and chairs around to accommodate groups. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was really good and we all enjoyed our meals. Tried Johnny B's after a suggestion from coworkers. Wanted to try their steak and see what it is like. Plus they have breakfast choices all day. From the outside the restaurant looks small but is plenty big. You get to seat yourself and there was plenty of seating. The staff was very friendly and always attentive to what we need. The food took a little while but I believe it was my steak that held things up. The fried pickles were excellent. I'm not a huge fan of fried pickles but I ate a lot of them. My wife said her breakfast was great. Her only issue was the eggs still had a tiny bit runny white parts. My baked potato was good and it has real bacon on it not bits. The steak however was very disappointing. It was supposed to be a ribeye but looked and tasted more like a sirloin. There was no crust on it and was even a little more rare than medium rare as ordered. I am still open to go back again. And since most everything else was great I will for sure give a good rating. 2/20/2020-I have been a fan, but this morning is changing that. It's 40-degrees outside and about 65 in here. I like things chilly, but this is COLD. The coffee is weak, very weak, a second run over the grinds weak. We'll see how the steak and eggs are. I was curious that the waitress ask me to cut into the steak to see if it were done right. A good cook would know that before he sent it out. It was rare as I had ordered, but purple rare. I see why the waitress asked. The steak is an inferior grade, hard to chew with much fat and long tendons that trailed the back of my throat. It made me swallow hard. And salty. It had a crust of seasoning that you could flake off, and--Oh My!--it was it salty, shockingly so with some bites. I had to ask for hash browns. They evidently are not included in the price. They are oily without any crispness, just oily, tossed shreds of potato. This was terrible. I'll just bet you that the original owners are gone. PS. I gave it three stars before I wrote this, but after reading this, I lowered it to a single star, and that was generous. PPS. My mouth is still reacting to the salt in the steak. read more

I don't have a reason to give this any less than 5 stars (yet). We've had breakfast here twice. It's a bit of a hole in the wall in not the best part of town, but don't let that scare you away. They clearly know their regulars, but that doesn't mean we were greeted with any less enthusiasm. Be prepared to wait. They have a limited amount of seating. However, also check the back room past the bathrooms. It's a seat yourself style restaurant (unless they are slammed). With the fall weather coming in, they have a handful of outdoor tables available as well. Their servings are large and tasteful. My biggest feedback would be to cook the scrambled eggs less? It might just be a preference, but they cook scrambled eggs wellllll done. If you've ever ate out with kids, you know that sometimes they declare they want more of something to eat that your don't have. They staff hustled and delivered for our toddler so she could have her fill. I've ordered a waffle both times and I'm always too full to eat the whole thing. I would highly recommend splitting it if you can. Johnny B's also has a lunch special available if you come close enough to lunch time. It smells amazing and seems to be a hit with the regulars.
