I have sat right there and waited 35-40 minutes twice for a to go burger and they wouldn't give me my drink I am guessing because it would need a refill. Great local restaurant! Stopped here while driving through. They had great service! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. It was clean and there were lots of tables inside. Awful service. Slow to make a plain cheese omelette that a child could make. Cheese was cheap sliced cheese thrown between egg. It made me sick. The waitress copped an attitude when I asked her where my order was! If you WAIT on people, you should explain their are call in orders instead of letting them sit inside an empty restaurant and wonder! Previous owner would've NEVER stood for this! Oh well. One of the best restaurants in Texarkana! Yes, the hamburgers are excellent (try the blue cheese burger!) but my favorite is the Lunch Special. It's usually a down-home meal like meatloaf with lima beans and mac 'n cheese with a dinner roll although occasionally they'll have lighter fare like grilled fish (it was very good). The place is always hopping around lunch time but they still manage to take your order quickly and get your food to you hot and tasty within minutes. The Old Tyme Burger Shoppe is possibly the best restaurant in town that doesn't double as a tombstone devoted to the death of flavor. They get their hamburger meat from a nearby butcher who also grinds the meat from a single loin of beef (and if you know anything about hamburger you'll know that that is the only way to do it right). They also serve pies and cakes that are often made just next door in the adjacent bakery if not made from scratch at home. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable for the excellence you are getting. I even think their corn dogs are hand dipped. I had the basic breakfast, eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, and toast. All of it good and cooked right. Service was good, after I ordered at the register. OTH makes a great, hand-made hamburger. Their catfish is large and moist. Their regular fries are very good to excellent. Their pies are wonderful. The chocolate is the best restaurant chocolate pie I've ever had. Their buttermilk pie is wonderful. read more
