I suppose all the good reviews we saw when we picked out this place for lunch was for good service, because the food was certainly mediocre at best. Also, its heavily americanized Mexican. The salsa was the only item that had any heat. We got the baked cheese thats what the waiter called it, it was tasteless.We assumed it was queso, but I can make far better queso at home.We ordered a chicken taco and a chicken enchilada, and veggie fajitas. The fajitas had very big chunks and strips of carrots, broccoli zucchini and bell peppers which had a lot of butter on them, it also came with a tiny bowl of melted better, but otherwise there wasn't any other seasoning. The tortillas were soft. The chicken wasnt seasoned either. I wouldn't visit again unless all I am looking for its good service and decent salsa read more

The chicken fajitas were the worst I've ever had. The chicken was obviously baked, not grilled and was extremely tough. There was absolutely no seasoning and it was served with a sliver of undercooked onion and bell pepper. I was confused by the cup of drawn butter until I tasted the chicken and saw how dry it was. It is a locally famous Mexican food with several years of history. They are usually busy so make sure coming early on the weekend. The portion is big and you can also enjoy the happy hour. However, it is also a bit pricy comparing to the other Mexican restaurant. read more

Great food and very exceptional service. Dined at this restaurant twice during my trip to Texarkana. It came highly recommended by locals, so I tried it and wasn't disappointed. Salsa was fantastic with great flavor and spice. Enchiladas and cheese chili rellenos were very tasty. Waitress was phenomenal and always smiling and took her time with me when I asked questions. I never felt rushed. The crown jewel of this restaurant is their super premium margarita. It only takes one to get the job done folks. If you plan on having two, you better have a designated driver. They definitely don't cheat you on the liquor nor on the flavor. I love me some margaritas, and this is without a doubt the best damn margarita I've ever had. If you love margaritas and you haven't come to this restaurant, you're doing yourself a grave disservice. read more

Rating lowered from 5- to 2-stars because of a recent pricing change. One of the best restaurants in Texarkana ... maybe the best. Would drive there from home just to get the baked queso... or maybe more than one. It's that good. What I cannot understand is the recent decision to charge patrons $4 for each basket of chips after the first one, which is complimentary. Baked queso servings easily need more than one basket each. Totally understand the rise in prices for just about everything, but would rather see my enchiladas or baked queso or favorite beverage pricing adjusted, instead of a ridiculous up charge for extra baskets of chips. Hopefully management will gauge feedback and make adjustments soon. An upcoming T-kana trip is looming and I have a couple of baked queso dishes in my sights! read more

I ordered a grilled chicken salad. I think they poured the entire bottle of dressing on it. It was standing in dressing. So much so that I spooned it off and filled a salsa bowl full and still had dressing in the bottom of my salad. Also pricey. read more

Just go eat here! The food is delicious, the atmosphere and decor are cheery and the waiters are attentive without hovering (you know the kind). The food portions are huge and the Chile Relleno on my husband's plate was enormous. We didn't get a margarita since we're driving but the ones at the next table looked good. read more

Zapata's Grill super good. We had the steak dinner with Garlic Butter and Rice. The baker queso was also delicious. The only bad part was the service and the noise level. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone who wants good food at a high noise level spot. I would not recommend for kids. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Spent $45 on two dishes, only to get sick from the food. How do I know it was from Zapata's, you ask? Well, we were part of a party, all of whom went home nauseated and sick. The kicker? One of the guests warned the waitress that his beef tamales tasted rotted. She went to the kitchen, came back, and proceeded to tell us "that's funny, because it's the same beef he ate in his nachos"! I can only assume by her response that they believed we were trying to get a meal for free... which wasn't the case. Instead, we were genuinely warning the waitstaff so that other guests don't get sick. In the end, no we did not get any refund, and a party of 10 people all got sick and stuck on the toilets all night... Thanks Zapata's for your first class service and excellently prepared rotted food! Safe to say we won't ever be going there again! read more

Worst Tex-Mex of all time. I thought Two Senoritas in Mount Pleasant would forever hold the record but at least Two Senoritas is actually edible. Zapata's was so bad I took one bite and was done. Three out of the four people at our table did not finish or barley touched their food. The one that did eat was so hungry he would have eaten anything. I truly do not understand how this restaurant has repeat business. There are just too many people in the area that have great value palettes. If you normally consume low quality food and think that the grocery store is where you need to save money, then this might be the place for you. If you are going to charge the kinds of prices, that are on this menu, then you should be using organic ingredients and not the cheapest you can find. If you drive a new car but purchase the lowest priced food at the grocery store then this is your kind of restaurant. On the other hand if you regularly seek out USDA organic no matter the price, avoid Zapata's like you would Ebola. read more

Incredibly disappointed in this place. We came with a large group and they had our table so incredibly close to the wall that none of the 8 people on that side of the table were capable of getting up at any point during the meal. They took a full 90 minutes to bring us food, and in the meantime they made sure to not refill our chips or get us fresh drinks unless we hunted someone down to ask (which, again, 8 of us were totally unable to do since they had the table arranged in such a way that it was literally impossible for any of us to get up once we had awkwardly scooted into our chairs). When our food finally arrived, it was completely cold. What a waste of 90 minutes we spent patiently waiting - we were left incredibly frustrated and very hangry since our fajitas were old and cold by the time they got to us. What on earth?? read more

For Mexican food in Texarkana, it is not bad. It is a good place for large parties/groups. The food is fresh, good and fast. I would say they could invest in their chairs as they were done and ready to be retired. There is no padding left, it is compressed completely. read more
