Visited here with my mom. We both got the lunch fajita chicken quesadillas, I added veggies to mine. Delicious! We could drink the red salsa! The green salsa was good too. We loved the colorful tables, chairs, and decorations. Waitress was great and kept the salsa coming. read more

Didn't get my color bendy straw. Took 10 years to get my food. My cheese looked like someone jizzed on my shrimp.

Our first time to try this Mexican restaurant when passing through Hope. Had the cheese jalapeño wrap with fajita chicken and two á lá carte tacos with a chile relleno and all really good. Waitress very attentive. Would come back again next time passing through. read more

Stopped in on the way home from Galveston, Tx. Saw a lot of cars there so decided to see why everybody in Hope, Ar liked to eat there. I can see why! Best nachos ever! Good salsa and fresh chips! Service was quick and friendly. We will drive the hour or so to eat there again. read more

Chips and dip-- awesome as always. I finally got my grandmother out to eat (she had had surgery a few weeks ago on her teeth, and she definitely has been watching what she eats). She ordered a chicken and beef fajita. When it came out, she fixed a fajita and took a bite of it. It was tough, so she just picked up a piece of meat. It was also too tough for her to eat. Vegetables were slightly burnt as well. She didn't touch it after that, and after I asked her did she want to order something else, she politely declined. The waitress came over from time to time, but seemed as if she was busy (the place wasn't very busy). Whenever she did ask us how the food was, my grandma explained how the food wasn't that good and how it was tough. The waitress seemed to "drift off" as she was speaking (like she heard her, but had to also hurry to attend to other things). Anyway, the waitress came back and said they had "discounted" the fajitas for us. $4.41 was taken off the ticket. They were originally $12.99. Although it's better than nothing, I've never had just a discount taken off of something that had one bite taken out of it. An $8.50 bite. "Tough" for us, huh?? I wish that the manager could've spoken to us. I believe that that would've been the right thing to do. She won't be back, and I don't think I will be either. I can say this was a very good experience as we were traveling through town and very hungry for a good meal. Frist, the service was very cheerful and courteous. Our server brought fresh tortilla chips to the table with two kinds of salsa. The beans had a very good smoky base and did not taste like they came out of a can. We started with some homemade guacamole that was surprisingly freshly made, not like other places, so it was authentic. The lemonade strawberry drinks were amazing, again freshness was the key experience at Amigo Juan's. We ordered the chicken nachos that came out intricately prepared as each nacho was beautifully presented on the plate, each with all the fixins' on top. We also had the chicken flautas that were packed and thick with shredded chicken- mind you they were generous as I have seen these flautas before with skimpy fillings. The ambiance of this place was very bright and as cheerful as our waitress. The detailed wood work and colorful painted seats, walls, and images all around the restaurant were delightful. They have several flat screens all around with sports on. Finally, I had the pleasure of speaking with the manager and shared what a pleasant meal we had. Anyone who thinks this is Mexican food hasn't had Mexican food; Taco Bell has more flavor then this place. Being from Dallas/Fort Worth I guess my standards are a little high lol. They serve black olives with a lot of their dishes! What is that about? Very bland food. The salsa has an odd flavor but the queso blanco is great. It's also a tad pricey. Three adults, 1 child, queso and 4 teas was $59. Do yourself a favor and keep driving. read more

Though i agree- the green sauce is weird.. the salsa is great! they bring the chips and keep 'em coming! the restaurant is the most insane blasts of color, i've ever seen. it's like mexico on acid. our waitress was awesome, very friendly.... the food is $7-14 and totally mediocre but it's freakin' HOPE, ya'll. p.s. hope's a dry county- so don't expect a margarita at this joint. read more

Was in town for the day and someone recommended this place. For being so close to the southern border, I expected a little more authentic. The salsa and guac that come to the table have a decent kick to them. The taco salad left something to be desired. It was essentially a taco bowl with the "mixed iceberg lettuce" you can buy in a bag at the store with a little shredded chicken on top. I was impressed with the promptness of the service but then again it was a table of 1 and a Tuesday lunch hour. The wait staff was very pleasant and the decor was very colorful. read more

We stopped in while on vacation and we were blown away. Being from Texas, I've got a pre-conceived, Tex-Mex, notion on what Mexican food should taste like. So, I was not expecting to find authentic Mexican food in Arkansas, especially when I saw the over the top decor. But, that notion was slapped out of my head the second that I tasted the food. From award winning tacos, to the fresh, flavorful salsa. I ordered a tri meat quesadilla, which was filled with cheese and a mixture of grilled beef, chicken, and shimp in a homemade tortilla. It was, without a doubt, the best quesadilla that I've ever had. The triple threat meat mixture was awesome. It shouldn't work, it should be overkill, but it does work. Grilled to perfection, with each meat complimenting each other. It's a great place for the little ones, also. My children had hand made, not frozen, chicken strips and golden french fries. Being from Hope, AR and having worked at Amigo Juan I would have to disagree with most of the reviews on this site. For one, Amigo Juan is owned by a Mexican family, the Rivera's. Also, there are nothing but Mexicans working in the kitchen. Most of the waitresses are white because that is what most of our population is. Think about it, if you were to get a Mexican as your waitress, who also can't speak such great English, I'm pretty sure you would get a little irritated repeating yourself because they couldn't understand you. Their menu was created by Juan Rivera's parents, also Mexican. Now i have not been to worked at the joint for a while now, but being a chef myself, I can honestly tell you that their food is unique, fresh and very inventive. A lot like their green salsa. Secondly the green salsa is brought to the table along with individual bowls of salsa. It is required of the waitress. The food is made fresh every morning along with the chips. They are a family place, catering to the needs of the locals. And I would be proud to bring my friends, who are also chefs, home to eat at this wonderful place. Oh and lay off the dry county comments. If that's the only thing you can find wrong you should stop writing reviews about any restaurant. If you want one that bad, drive 15 min west to the liquor store in Fulton, or keep going another 15 min and you'll find yourself in Texarkana. read more

This cafe is owned by 'Juan' and his family from Mexico. A great family. They serve up some of the best food in Hope. Prices are very fair, food is excellent, and service with a smile. We eat there every time we are in town. The green salsa is excellent. read more

After eating the chips and salsa I got food poisoning . Have spent last 2 days in a living hell . Driving 6 hours home stopping every hour or so to throw up on side of the road . I eat here every time I come to hope . Never had a problem before . But I will never eat here again . Food poisoning hits around 3 to 5 hours after eating . Protect yourself ! read more
