We drove up from Shreveport to let our daughter cut our hair at Texarkana college and stopped by for breakfast afterwards. OMG. The burritos are massive and so delicious! We each took half of our burrito home and yes, the breakfast burritos reheat really well! We came back a month later and ate the surf and turf burrito. This time we knew how big they were so we shared. Well now we are mad at ourselves for sharing because we didn't have leftovers to take home. Soooo...we had to order a surf and turf to go, for supper later. We are coming back next month and we will stop here. We lived in So Cal for 5 years, CO for 4 years, and TX for 3 years and we have tried a lot of different tacos and burritos. Most of the time in TX, believe it or not, they were just so-so or horrible. When we lived in CA our favorite burrito was the "California burrito". Nothing anywhere has been able to live up to that...until today when we ate the "California burrito", "Jumbo", and the "Sausage breakfast burrito" at Colima's. The burritos are ENORMOUS so you will not be able to finish them in one sitting. The "California burrito" at Colima's is as authentic as it is in Cali. Yes, this is an unnecessarily long review on burritos lol BUT it's 2020 and we will take any victory no matter how big or small And to anyone who said that their salsa is "jarred" or bought, you need your tastebuds examined. This salsa, although spicy, was very good. If it is jarred (which I doubt), it's the best jarred salsa we have ever had ‍ We live near Austin so we don't get up to Texarkana more than once a year but when we are here next, we will definitely go back to Colima's. read more

My husband brought me to Colimas for dinner one night. Everything about the place was a surprise. The ambiance was a surprise, I didnt expect it to be so....ordinary. but it was. We ordered from the counter, from a nice, but not overly cordial, woman. She didnt appear to speak a lot of English, but she understood us quite well. I ordered Chile Verde, and my hubby ordered something else. We went and sat down and waited for someone to bring chips and salsa, but soon found out that you have to buy them. We didnt buy any because the food was so fast to get there...we didnt have time once we figured out we had to order them.the food got to the table and we were both astonished at the amounts of food on the plate..!! We both feasted, and I have to say it is the best Chili Verdi I have EVER had, and that includes 16 years of Phoenix Chili Verdi. we both took a lot home with us. We decided to take a break in Texarkana during our road trip from Louisville, Ky to Austin, TX and ended up here based on Yelp reviews, which never steers us wrong. We also wanted one last taste of Texas before we bid it farewell. This restaurant is sparkling clean, bathrooms, tables and floors all in great shape (also, they have two ply toilet paper, which I've learned that on road trip that is a true delicacy). Very friendly staff and the little girl that works there is so sweet! I ordered three tacos, chips and salsa and a soda. The total was a little more than you might spend at your local chain Mexican restaurant, but it's a small operation and the portions are generous. They use corn tortillas, which I'm not really a fan of. The meat is a little bland, most of the flavor comes from the onions diced in the meat. The veggies and cheese used are very fresh and taste great. They use copious amounts of cheese, which I appreciate, haha. The chips were hot and fresh, but the salsa tasted like it came out of a jar, definitely not bad tasting but it wasn't one of my favorite salsas. My partner and I also ordered a cheese quesadilla to split and it was delicious! It had lots of cheese, a flour tortilla and was just greasy enough to give it a really great flavor. It was awesome dipped in the salsa. So overall: A little pricey, but its a clean and friendly place to eat and has lots of menu options so everyone can find something they like.
