Seafood Chilli Relleno & Seafood Salad
    Sun S.

This was my first stop at Maria's and maybe my last unfortunately. Let's start off with the Seafood Chili Relleno. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was a type of bland that had me sitting there asking myself "why am I bothering?" The Seafood Salad was one of the weirdest things I had seen yet, but honestly wasn't bad. I'd say give it a try. The queso was mediocre. Chips and salsa though, were fresh and I'd say worth it. The drink lines were dirty somewhere and therefore left a fowl aftertaste when it came to their drinks. Our server did her best and was a sweet lady. No complaints about the service. Just the food.

The menu is HUGE; like a book!

Great Tex-Mex in a neat building! My Carne Asada was really good, and it came with a Cheese Enchilada. My wife loved her Chicken Tacos al Carbon! Good Sweet Tea, and soft drinks are available. Plus; it is BYOB if you are thirsty for s harder beverage! All of the exposed wood in the super high ceilings make for some interesting views while you wait on your food. AND; the staff feels like family - makes for a very relaxed dining atmosphere! We loved it!

Not sure how a Mexican Restaurant can mess up salsa but it tasted like pure chili powder or Cumin overload. I had fajitas and the beans were terrible (texture was more like Alpo, but Alpo probably would have been better). No one at our table enjoyed their meal and we left very disappointed. The only thing good was the service... Daughter had a little plastic in her burrito .... It had more flavor than the meat. We tried the queso after we saw good reviews, it was water cheese and had some jalapeño thrown in. I'd probably suggest driving to Texarkana for food or the Mexico border. Whatever you do, don't waste your hard earned money on something that will leave you sad, broken, and in need of new plumbing.

Once we sat, we saw one other table of 4 people inside. It took 15 minutes for her to come out with salsa and chips and then she took our drink order. Sweet tea was good and topo chico was available. We ordered chicken fajitas, beef fajitas and chicken enchiladas. Their saving grace were the crispy chips and fresh salsa. Every time the door at entrance opened there is a VERY loud, startling beeping sound. It took over 45 min to get our food. Unfortunately, portions were lunch size and food was bland. Our server was confused and served the chicken fajitas stating they were steak. She brought out one plate at a time with 10 min in between each plate so everything was lukewarm warm by the time we finally got tortillas at the very end. All the staff seemed distracted by the rain storm. The tv inside the restaurant had "Bluey" cartoon on. I would not recommend this place unless you want to wait an hour and prefer bland Mexican food and a very casual atmosphere. We had to walk up to get our check. Very disappointed because other people's reviews sound very positive but unfortunately we did not have that experience today.

Brenda L was the server who took my order. Per their suggestion I ordered the birria tacos which came with rice, beans, toppings and then a side of chips and salsa. The tacos were okay. I think coming from Texas I'm just used to food being more seasoned, but the meat was tender and the portions were generous. Now usually at a taco joint either the green or red salsa will be on the milder, less spicy side but here ?? If you like heat then you're in for a treat because oh my lord LOL. If you know you know. This place is okay. Good rice. Right around Albuquerque, New Mexico you hit the Tex-Mex wall and people start doing weird stuff with white cheeses. The queso modified cheese food product flows freely. Disappointed that the veggies in my veggie burrito were frozen from a bag and the beans had that Smokey meat taste which is also a Tex-Mex wonder. Ugh, ya'll eat bbq too much. So, it is my fault that I ordered a random thing in a rural part of Arkansas. But honestly, where is the salsa at? Maybe it's time to keep your cheese drizzle and try a little fresh salsa drizzle. You might like it. Luckily we travel with salsa on us. Cause we're flippin weirdos okay, and again, it's burrito culture. The other thing I will say, is maybe there was some kind of plumbing issue but the whole restaurant smelled like urine. Like a dirty bathroom floor. And I know that's not how tex mex cheese is supposed to smell... so.. do with that what you will.

It was good but a bit sugary. The steak and horchata were perfect though! Just what I needed after a long day on the road.
